The Imperial Capital.
"What did you say?" Lao Zhao slammed his hand on the table and stood up, exclaiming, "You mean there are thousands of people over there?" The officer nodded and replied, "That's right. They were the first to fly here. I heard that Miss Shen and Huangfu Ling are among them!" Upon hearing this, Lao Zhao slapped his forehead and said, "This Zhang Fusheng can be quite something at times. Quickly summon Elder Zhang and Elder Wu! Tell them I have urgent matters to discuss! It must be done as fast as possible, understood?"
"Understood, I'll go right now!" The officer nodded and hurried off, but Lao Zhao added, "By the way, make sure to take good care of those who are coming!"

"Get up! That feeling is getting stronger; we need to go out and check!" Wang Chao woke up Ouyang En, who was sleeping in the same room. "I don't know if I'm just being paranoid." Ouyang En, still groggy and not sensing anything unusual, looked at Wang Chao's serious expression and finally got up. "Should I wake the others?" Wang Chao shook his head and said, "I’m not sure if it’s anything serious; let’s just go out and see for ourselves."
Ouyang En nodded. As they stepped out of the room, they noticed Tang Feng had also come out from across the hall. The three exchanged glances, and Wang Chao asked, "What’s going on?" Tang Feng replied, "I just have a bad feeling but don’t know what might happen, so I wanted to go out and check." Wang Chao nodded in agreement. "I feel the same way; let’s go together."
Tang Feng nodded and picked up his Tang Dao that was leaning against the door.
The hallway was pitch black, making it difficult to navigate. Tang Feng drew his Tang Dao, which immediately glimmered with a bright light. The trio used the soft glow from the blade to make their way outside. The faint moonlight cast down upon them, obscuring their view of the distance. However, they quickly sensed something was off. Wang Chao whispered, "Where did those guards go? Ouyang En, immediately inform Shen Zhitao about this situation. Tang Feng, let’s go take a look."
Tang Feng nodded and held his Tang Dao firmly in hand while Wang Chao drew his Black Gold Dagger in reverse grip as they headed toward where the guards had been stationed. When they arrived at the location only to find it completely deserted, both realized something must have gone wrong. They glanced down at the ground and noticed several half-burnt cigarette butts.
Tang Feng examined the ground and said, "They must have gone that way. Look at the ground; there are clear drag marks indicating they were taken away quickly."
Listening to Tang Feng's observations, Wang Chao looked down and indeed saw a trail of drag marks. Just as Tang Feng had pointed out, they exchanged glances before cautiously following the trail. They rounded a residential building and came around back where they spotted several shadowy figures under the moonlight. Wang Chao called out, "Who’s there!" His voice was loud enough for those shadows to hear, yet they remained unmoving. Wang Chao and Tang Feng exchanged knowing looks; something was definitely amiss.
The two rushed forward, and Wang Chao kicked one of the shadows to the ground. He then hooked his foot under the person, flipping them over. Upon closer inspection, he saw that the person's eyes and tongue had been cut out. Tang Feng also sensed something was off; they hesitated to act because they couldn't tell if these individuals had mutated. Wang Chao quickly said, "If you can understand me, nod your head!"
But the person remained unresponsive, like a walking corpse.
Just as they were at a loss, Wang Chao suddenly felt a chill sweep through him, an inexplicable sense of agitation rising within. He swiftly swung his Black Gold Dagger, and a sharp sound echoed, like metal clashing. Wang Chao looked around but saw nothing. Suddenly, Tang Feng stepped forward quickly, wielding his Tang Dao like the wind, producing several ringing sounds.
Tang Feng said, "There's something here."
Wang Chao had felt it too, but after searching for a while, they still couldn't see what it was. Wang Chao shouted, "I felt it too, but I can't see what it is!"
At that moment, both Wang Chao and Tang Feng heard footsteps and shouts coming from ahead. They could hear Li Dewei's voice blaring through a loudspeaker: "Everyone stay calm! Please stay inside and do not come out! We will handle all dangers for you!"
"Let's head back; it seems they've noticed too!" Wang Chao said.
Tang Feng nodded and followed Wang Chao as they ran ahead.
Upon reaching the front of the building, they saw that the military had assembled. In the dim moonlight, it was hard to distinguish who was who. As they approached, they recognized Huangfu Ling and Shen Zhitao among others. Wang Chao hurriedly stepped forward and said, "There's something out there; it's moving fast—so fast that we can't even see its shadow..." Before he could finish his sentence, screams erupted around them. Someone shouted, "What happened? What happened?" "It's a monster! A monster!"
In an instant, the crowd erupted in chaos. Everyone knew that soldiers were usually disciplined; such a commotion indicated something incomprehensible had occurred. Huangfu Ling took a few quick steps and discovered soldiers with their eyes and tongues gouged out. He immediately understood the danger Wang Chao had mentioned. He decisively shouted, "Captain Lei! Get the generator and searchlights ready! Quickly!"
"Understood!" Captain Lei's voice rang out amidst the chaotic shouts.
"All team leaders, take your squads and hide in nearby buildings! Move fast!" Huangfu Ling issued his second command.
"Understood!" the captains shouted.
"People from the Bioterrorism Security Department!" Huangfu Ling called out. "Assist with the evacuation and locate the source of danger!"
"Understood!" the members of the Bioterrorism Security Department responded.
The newly formed team scattered once again, but the speed of humans could not match that of the creature. Within just a few minutes, more people had transformed into those mindless beings. The crowd hid inside their homes, too afraid to make a sound, trembling as they listened to the shouts outside. They exchanged incredulous glances with one another, gasping in shock.
Then, they rushed out of their houses in a frenzy, all heading downstairs. They realized that those around them had inexplicably turned into eyeless, voiceless figures. Soldiers outside were trying to enter while the crowd inside was trying to escape, resulting in a standoff at the building's entrance where neither side could advance or retreat. The chaos had reached an unbearable level.
