"Eagle Eye" said, "Perhaps you've noticed that as a soldier, completing the mission is of utmost importance. Death for us is merely another form of liberation. Moreover, given your strength, you should be able to see that I have the capability to shoot the ropes binding those two with a single bullet. But I also know that after I take that shot, there will be no second chance. In that brief moment, you could easily kill both of us..."
"Wang Chao" nodded and replied, "You're right; the one who sent you to kill me is 'Huangfu Yan,' isn't it?"
"That's correct." After a moment's hesitation, "Eagle Eye" continued, "To show my sincerity, I've revealed our background. So let's make a trade: you release 'Mountain Gale,' and I'll hand over my gun. That way, even though there are two of us, my close combat ability is negligible. We can both leave unharmed, can't we?"
"Is that so?" "Wang Chao" chuckled and shook his head. "You need to hand over the gun first. I don't trust your words; I have no idea how strong your combat skills are..." But before "Wang Chao" could finish, "Eagle Eye" interjected, "That's impossible. The gun is my life. If I hand it over first, we will both die at your hands..."
"So there's nothing to discuss then?" "Wang Chao" said. "Neither of us wants to take that step."
At that moment, "Mountain Gale," who had been silent all along, moved slightly. Instinctively, "Wang Chao" looked over and suddenly realized that "Eagle Eye" had raised his gun—not aimed at "Wang Chao," but at the two people on the flagpole! Without time to consider "Mountain Gale," "Wang Chao" charged toward "Eagle Eye." Yet even if "Wang Chao" was fast, he couldn't match the speed at which "Eagle Eye" pulled the trigger!
Then, "Eagle Eye" threw the gun over and asked, "Will you save them or kill them?"
"Wang Chao" turned to look back. Just as "Eagle Eye" had said, the bullet fired was not meant to kill one of them; instead, it severed the ropes binding both of them. Such intent was undeniably sinister! With the power of a Sniper Rifle, hitting one person would be enough to kill them instantly. If that were the case, "Wang Chao" would have no choice but to eliminate both here for revenge. However, cutting the ropes meant both would survive; yet once they fell from above, even if they didn't die from the fall, they would become food for Zombies!
"Wang Chao" shouted as he saw a flash of cold light—the rifle barrel was sliced cleanly in half!
But at this moment, there was no time for him to kill either of them. He dashed toward the flagpole with reckless abandon, stowing his dagger in his Spatial Ring. Like a leopard, "Wang Chao" sprinted on all fours toward the flagpole. It was only then that "Yiyi" and "Wu Wan'er" snapped out of their shock and began to scream. “Haha! No matter how strong you are, you can only save one!” came the voice of "Eagle Eye" from behind.
"Wang Chao," however, paid no heed to him. With the Sniper Rifle destroyed, those two should no longer have any capacity to confront him directly; if "Eagle Eye" had such strength, he wouldn't have wasted so many words.
"No! This is too slow! Too slow! I need to go faster; otherwise, Wan'er and Yiyi will die..." "Wang Chao" roared inwardly.
The flagpole stood about fifteen meters tall, and with the height of the platform, the vertical distance from the ground was roughly twenty meters. The moment the rope snapped, both individuals instinctively reached out with their hands, but it only slightly delayed their fall by a few seconds. Given their current speed of descent, they would hit the ground in no more than five seconds. At that moment, Wang Chao had just reached the outer perimeter of the zombie horde.
To get there, Wang Chao would need at least ten seconds, not counting the time required to clear the zombies blocking his path and to catch both individuals. By that calculation, saving even one person seemed impossible, let alone two.
Four seconds.
Wang Chao stood up and began to run atop the zombies' heads. "Too slow!" he shouted. "Still too slow! Yiyi, Smile..." Just then, Wang Chao suddenly felt an unusual energy flowing within him! It was the Breathing Technique. Since he had only just begun to learn it, he couldn't fully enter its state, but at that moment, he clearly sensed this newfound power!
Three seconds.
Ignoring the consequences, Wang Chao activated the Breathing Technique. He didn't even know how long he could maintain it. Once in the state, everything around him seemed to slow down; both the falling speed of the two individuals and the movements of the zombies trying to pull him down appeared much slower in his eyes! It felt like one second could stretch into five!
Two seconds.
Wang Chao had already reached in front of them. Yiyi hadn’t even realized what was happening; she felt her descent suddenly halt. At that moment, she opened her eyes and discovered that her uncle had saved her! However, due to the force pulling him down, Wang Chao's speed had slowed somewhat, and at this rate, he wouldn't be able to save Wu Wan'er in time!
Wu Wan'er had been watching Wang Chao fight from atop the flagpole. She found it strange that this man had been knocked back numerous times yet showed no intention of fleeing; instead, he grew more courageous with each battle until he ultimately defeated his opponent. Now, he was rushing forward recklessly to save Yiyi. It seemed that Yiyi was someone very important to Wang Chao.
As for herself, apart from her grandfather, no one had ever truly cared for her throughout her life. Even her grandfather didn’t understand what she really wanted. Perhaps dying here would be for the best. Yet deep down, she longed for someone who could protect her, love her—someone who would value her above all else.
Wan'er closed her eyes as tears streamed down freely.
Being alone wasn’t so bad after all.
One second.
The anticipated fall did not occur. Wu Wan'er opened her eyes and was surprised to see Wang Chao rushing toward her for some unknown reason! It turned out that upon realizing Wu Wan'er was in imminent danger, the desperate Wang Chao had, in that moment, ascended to Silver level, significantly enhancing his strength! He managed to reach Wu Wan'er’s side in just a second!
Wang Chao held Yiyi with one hand while wrapping the other around Wu Wan'er. However, Wu Wan'er was much heavier than Yiyi and was already close to the ground. The gravitational potential was so great that even if she collided with Wang Chao, there was a possibility that Wu Wan'er could perish! But Wang Chao was indeed a master at Silver level; he quickly caught Wu Wan'er in his arms and executed a complete 360-degree roll to counteract the downward momentum.
However, they were too close to the ground. After the roll, Wang Chao's back hit the ground, and the immense gravitational force still propelled him forward, causing cracks to appear on the hard marble floor beneath them.
