Wang Chao ran a considerable distance before finally stopping. He turned back to see that the entire Chicken Farm was engulfed in flames, the sound of wooden structures cracking under the heat echoing intermittently. He could even hear the clucking of the Zombie Chickens inside. Given the current situation, it was only a matter of time before those Zombie Chickens turned into roasted chickens. Wang Chao hadn't anticipated that his simple desire to conduct an experiment on Zombie evolution would inadvertently lead to the demise of so many Zombie Chickens.
However, there were significant gains to be had. Although these Crystals wouldn't greatly enhance his own power, he had hundreds of them. If he absorbed them all, he might level up again. Yet, Wang Chao preferred to use these Crystals on Yiyi and the others. They were only at the Brass Lower Level, essentially at the same level as those Zombie Chickens—just recently evolved. He estimated that they would need about a hundred Crystals to advance a level.
"Not bad, quite a harvest," Wang Chao mused aloud. "It's just a pity about my dagger; with the fire raging like this, there's no chance of retrieving it."
"I know you're pleased, but can you put me down now?" Shen Zhitao said.
Wang Chao looked down and realized he was still holding Shen Zhitao in a princess carry. Upon meeting his gaze, her face flushed slightly, revealing her embarrassment. Wang Chao glanced at Shen Zhitao in his arms—her skin was as white as jade, delicate and seemingly capable of squeezing out water; her features were exquisite and captivating, truly stunning. He cleared his throat a couple of times before finally setting Shen Zhitao down.
She jumped to the ground and said to Wang Chao, "I haven't seen anywhere on you that could hold anything. I noticed before how your dagger would suddenly appear or disappear. Don't think you can brush this off; I want you to explain it. It can't be more shocking than your hands transforming into various shapes."
Seeing Shen Zhitao's determined expression, Wang Chao knew that after their long battles and life together, it was only a matter of time before her keen eyes caught onto this detail. He shook his head and explained how he had obtained the Spatial Ring, which left Shen Zhitao astonished. It turned out that Wang Chao had been bitten by a Zombie a month before the outbreak began.
"However, I hope you won't tell anyone about the Spatial Ring; it's just too strange..." Wang Chao said seriously as he looked into Shen Zhitao's eyes. Seeing his earnest demeanor made her nod in agreement. Yet she couldn't help but wonder about that girl named Xiaocao—who exactly was she? Suddenly, it struck Shen Zhitao that Wang Chao seemed to have no shortage of girls around him. So why was she following this man who was four or five years younger than herself?
Watching Wang Chao's silly grin, Shen Zhitao shook her head helplessly and said, "We should hurry back."
The return journey was uneventful and needs no elaboration. Wang Chao had already dumped over a hundred Crystals onto the table, shocking everyone present. With a smile, he addressed their astonishment: "What a bountiful harvest! This trip to the Chicken Farm not only confirmed Xiao Wei's suspicions but also brought back so many Brass-level Crystals! Indeed, these Crystals were enough for all three at the Brass Lower Level to level up!
Wang Chao continued, "So let's start with Yiyi, Xiao Wei, and Yang Mengying until they reach Brass Mid-Tier level. The remaining Crystals will go to Wan'er; I believe this many Crystals should be enough for her to reach Brass Upper Level as well. To put it simply, it was about the Shen Sisters. Tang Feng had no Crystals to use, and of course, Wang Chao didn’t have any either, but they had no objections. “So,” Xiao Wei said earnestly to everyone, “I hope you can agree with me. I also hope Sister Wan'er won’t hold anything against me for this; I just want to maximize our team’s benefits. If they become stronger, they can better protect us, right?”
“I completely agree with your perspective,” Wu Wan'er said with a knowing smile.
“Then let’s proceed with my plan and evolve!” Xiao Wei exclaimed excitedly.
Following Xiao Wei's distribution method, Yiyi and Yang Mengying began absorbing energy from the Crystals. Yiyi absorbed over two hundred Crystals before upgrading to Brass Mid-Tier, while Yang Mengying absorbed around three hundred. It seemed that each person's innate qualities varied, resulting in different amounts of energy absorbed. The remaining five or six hundred Crystals were absorbed solely by Shen Zhitao; however, even with that amount, she did not break through to Silver Level.
Wang Chao was about to discreetly take out the two hundred or so remaining Crystals from his Spatial Ring for Shen Zhitao when Shen Zhitao saw through his intentions and stopped him. Seeing that Shen Zhitao hadn’t leveled up made Xiao Wei feel a bit downcast. However, according to Shen Zhitao’s words, she had already reached a critical point and might break through at any time, which lifted Xiao Wei’s spirits.
As it stood now, only Xiao Wei had reached Brass Lower Level.
Xiao Wei refrained from evaluating her own strength. Wang Chao noticed that her reluctance to use the Crystals was partly due to her consideration for maximizing team benefits and partly a small act of stubbornness typical of a young man.
“I need to level up quickly enough to protect others rather than relying on others to protect me!” Xiao Wei thought resolutely.
