Wang Chao walked back without looking back, while the three of them rode in the same Military Jeep, driving away. The soldiers put away their guns and lined up to leave. Wang Chao glanced at the situation behind through the rearview mirror. As soon as the army departed, the crowd erupted into chaos again, chattering loudly, not knowing what they were shouting about. It seemed that Wang Chao was not worried about the injuries of those people; his control over his strength was meticulous.
As the Military Jeep moved further away, the crowd behind gradually faded into a dark mass, becoming indistinguishable. Wang Chao sighed lightly in his heart but said nothing. Old Hao seemed to notice Wang Chao's unusual demeanor and asked, "What's wrong, Wang Chao?" Wang Chao knew he couldn't show any other expression at this moment. He smiled and replied, "Of course, I was just thinking about going back to drink together..."
The Military Jeep continued to distance itself as we shift our focus back to the civilians.
The scene was chaotic; many people still lay on the ground, causing concern among those around them. In particular, the child that Wang Chao had thrown down earlier drew immediate attention from several nearby women, who rushed over to pick him up. They looked him over but found no visible injuries. One of them immediately began to pray for divine protection, unaware that this was all part of Wang Chao's calculations.
"Damn it, I knew it! These powerful people are never good!" one person muttered to another. "They say they want to get rid of Commander Yu, but as soon as they arrive here, they only think about themselves. It's infuriating! Why can people like them become strong while we can't even compete with them? I'm so frustrated!" As he spoke, he pounded the ground with his hands, blood mixing with tears on his face, looking utterly disheveled.
Another former soldier pulled him up and said, "There seems to be something off about this situation."
"What could possibly be off?" he pushed the man's hand away and retorted. "Old Gu, don't defend that Wang Chao! We agreed to take action this afternoon, and what happened? Everyone just left! Not a single person stayed behind! And that Wang Chao claimed he would stand up for us—it's all nonsense! He was bought off by that Yu guy..."
Before he could finish speaking, Old Gu covered his mouth with one hand and said, "Wu Lu, do you want to die?" After releasing Wu Lu's mouth, he continued, "You say Wang Chao has betrayed us; if you can explain a few points clearly, I might agree with you. First, if he really did betray us and we all know his secret, why hasn't he killed you? Second, his strength is Silver Mid-Tier while you and I are only Brass Mid-Tier; he has the power to kill us—why hasn't he?"
Wu Lu opened his mouth to respond but was interrupted by Old Gu who pressed on: "Look around you—who here has been killed by Wang Chao? With his strength, killing someone is easier than injuring them."
Hearing Old Gu's reasonable arguments made Wu Lu furrow his brow as he scanned the area. He realized that although there was a lot of blood on the ground, there wasn't a single person who had been killed by Wang Chao. Old Gu was right; for someone of their caliber to kill him would be easier than squashing an ant—after all, in this day and age, finding an ant isn't exactly easy.
Wu Lu stopped complaining and looked at the others still cursing around them before asking, "Then what is his purpose in doing this?"
Old Gu replied, "The plan might have encountered some trouble. However, let's wait and see; we both know what kind of person Liu Jie is. The people he values are certainly not the petty characters you mentioned." With that, Old Gu helped Wu Lu up and together they went to assist others. Unbeknownst to them, not far away stood someone eavesdropping on their entire conversation.
The man did not participate in the riot; he arrived only after it had ended. His purpose for mingling with the crowd was simple: he wanted to seize an opportunity for profit. However, although he did not find any valuable items that had fallen, he overheard a shocking secret. This Wang Chao was someone he had never seen before, and upon his arrival, he knocked down all one hundred people present. Moreover, judging by his relationship with One-Eyed Dragon Lao Hao, it was clear that he was another favored individual of Commander Yu. Little did anyone expect that this person was actually there to kill Commander Yu.
"If I tell Commander Yu about this secret, I could gain wealth and power, women and food..." the man thought, a lewd smile creeping onto his face.
Meanwhile, Wang Chao had returned to the villa. After the commotion, the beautiful women were no longer waiting for him inside. Wang Chao smiled to himself; this was just as he wanted. The three of them had consumed quite a bit of alcohol that night, and as Wang Chao stumbled back into the house, he appeared dazed. However, once inside, he completely shook off his drunkenness. He moved about casually while discreetly checking for hidden cameras.
Finding no pinhole cameras, Wang Chao let out a quiet sigh of relief and jumped straight out of the window. Like a raccoon in the night, he silently dashed through the darkness and easily scaled the walls of the villa area. For Wang Chao, escaping without alerting anyone was a piece of cake. Yet his actions were not about fleeing; he was on his way to find Liu Jie.
Wang Chao sensed that things were not going well today. If their plan leaked out, it would surely bring disaster upon him.
"Who!" Liu Jie called out cautiously as he approached his shabby little house.
When he turned around, a hand rested on his shoulder, and a familiar face appeared before him—it was none other than Wang Chao. "Wang Chao?" Liu Jie exclaimed in surprise. They had agreed that Wang Chao would come looking for him the next day; why was he here in the middle of the night? Had Commander Yu been killed? Or had their plans been exposed?
Wang Chao spoke softly, "Something happened today. You need to go back and ask others about it yourself. I’ll say this: do not act rashly. Trust me; I am definitely not another Commander Yu. The situation is too urgent; I had no choice but to come find you tonight. If my identity is exposed, it won’t just be me who dies! Remember that."
Before Liu Jie could ask anything else, he saw Wang Chao's shadow vanish into the night without a trace.
