Wang Chao turned to see the One-Eyed Dragon looking at him with a smile that was neither friendly nor hostile. However, Wang Chao chose to ignore him. He knew that ever since he arrived at this Safe Zone, the One-Eyed Dragon had taken a disliking to him. At that moment, the fighting spirit in the One-Eyed Dragon's eyes seemed ordinary to Wang Chao. It was precisely because of this that the One-Eyed Dragon, who couldn't hide his emotions, managed to deceive Wang Chao. Little did Wang Chao know that his identity had already been exposed, putting his life in danger at any moment.
Wang Chao's mind was occupied with thoughts of Da Qiang and the girl on the iron chain.
He noticed the One-Eyed Dragon leaning down to whisper something into Commander Yu's ear. Upon hearing it, Commander Yu suddenly clenched his fists but quickly returned to normal. He nodded and called over Old Hao, whispering a few words in his ear. These actions took place right in front of Wang Chao, yet he remained oblivious to the massive trap waiting for him.
As Old Hao walked past Wang Chao, he turned and asked, "Old Hao, what are you up to?" Old Hao flashed his usual smile, his small eyes squinting as he replied, "Me? I'm just going to prepare for the show. Don't worry; the performance later will be even more exciting."
Wang Chao was filled with confusion. Was it true that they were going to release a few Mourning Lions to deal with Da Qiang? If so, how would he get into the cage and rescue Da Qiang? He could handle a Mourning Lion himself, but how could he escape with an exhausted Da Qiang and the girl on the iron chain in front of these silver-level experts?
However, time passed slowly, and Commander Yu did not order the release of the Mourning Lions. As Wang Chao secretly sighed in relief, he also began to wonder what scheme Commander Yu was plotting. But Commander Yu remained seated in his position, occasionally chatting with Wang Chao.
"Wang Chao, my brother," Commander Yu said thoughtfully, "I've decided not to wait until my birthday to absorb the Crystal." He continued, "As they say, 'the longer you wait, the more dreams you have.' The riot yesterday has been haunting me; life is unpredictable—who knows when it might end?"
What the hell? This fat man is trying to give me a pep talk at such a time? Wang Chao had no mood for idle chatter; he merely responded, "Of course! Commander Yu can absorb it whenever you want. I believe you'll reach Golden Level in one go."
At this moment, Commander Yu only smiled without speaking further, leaving Wang Chao feeling helpless. Just after receiving a dose of motivational speech from him, now he seemed to be contemplating life itself? The silence stretched on until no one spoke again. Wang Chao had no choice but to pretend to admire the scenery while actually considering how to rescue Da Qiang.
During this silence, Old Hao returned with his usual cheerful expression. He walked past Wang Chao and nodded slightly at Commander Yu. Watching this unfold made Wang Chao feel that something was off, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was. It was just a feeling—looking at Da Qiang still standing in the arena and the girl still tied up on the iron chain made him feel as if ants were gnawing at him all over; he felt utterly uncomfortable.
Old Hao placed a gleaming silver Crystal on the table in front of Commander Yu and Wang Chao. The Crystal emitted a dazzling light that drew gasps from the women nearby. Since ancient times, women have loved jewelry; although this Crystal wasn't jewelry per se, it shone even more brilliantly than gems. Even Wang Chao felt an impulse to grab it; let alone these women. Commander Yu's greedy gaze fixated on the Crystal but he made no move.
"Come here," Commander Yu said with a glance toward Xiaoyun beside Wang Chao. "Xiaoyun, bring some fine wine over; I want to share a drink with my brother Wang Chao."
A hint of pity and fear flickered in Xiaoyun's eyes, two emotions swirling within her gaze as if she had just heard the most terrifying and helpless thing in the world. In the end, she nodded. Before long, a jug of wine was brought up by Xiaoyun. Wang Chao looked at it; the jug shimmered with colors, clearly a fine piece of craftsmanship, but he wondered what kind of wine it contained.
The wine was poured into two small cups. Commander Yu lifted his cup and said, "Brother Wang Chao, you have only been in the Safe Zone for a short day, but I truly consider you a brother. For your sake, I intend to support you, even though Qijia Peng has voiced his objections. But to me, I cherish talent. Haha, let me drink first as a toast!"
With that, Commander Yu downed the fine wine in his cup. Wang Chao responded, "Commander Yu has indeed treated me well; everyone can see that!" He raised his cup and nodded slightly to Commander Yu, just about to drink it all when suddenly Xiaoyun shouted, "You can't drink!" At the same time, she reached out to knock Wang Chao's cup away.
Wang Chao's lips had already touched the wine when he heard Xiaoyun's warning and immediately spat it out. It turned out that the jug had a mechanism; the first cup contained ordinary fine wine, but the second cup held the deadliest poison known to man.
Xiaoyun was not someone who had been recently abducted; she had been taken by Commander Yu long ago. During the outbreak of zombies, Commander Yu had used such tricks more than once to rise to power. Now he intended to replicate this scheme to kill Wang Chao. Xiaoyun had long detested this way of life.
In the brief time she had spent with Wang Chao over the past day, despite her repeated provocations, Wang Chao remained unmoved. Xiaoyun understood that Wang Chao was not like Commander Yu; the concern he displayed for the people of the Safe Zone could deceive those men but was keenly sensed by her.
She did not know exactly who Wang Chao was, but at least he could not be as bad as Commander Yu.
Wang Chao did not understand why Xiaoyun wanted to save him, but he realized immediately that their plan had been exposed! Crystal! The thought sprang simultaneously into both Wang Chao's and Commander Yu's minds. They both reached out to grab it at once; their arms collided mid-air and then slammed heavily onto the table.
The wooden table could not withstand such tremendous force and shattered instantly, splinters flying everywhere—unbeknownst to how many nearby women were injured in the process. As the table broke apart, Crystal was sent bouncing into the air. Both men stood up from their chairs at that moment when One-Eyed Dragon and Old Hao also reacted and charged at Wang Chao.
In an instant, several people moved to strike, but just then, a bright red firework exploded in the sky, leaving everyone momentarily stunned.
