Biology tells us that in most animals, females are particularly formidable. Take the term "mother tiger," for example, or the women standing before me—none of them dare to provoke Wang Chao. Wang Chao felt a bit embarrassed; the "Little Wolf" he had been riding for months was actually a she-wolf, known as Xiao Wei. He hadn't anticipated such a delicate detail.
At this moment, Wang Chao couldn't help but sigh, realizing that life is like a play, entirely dependent on acting skills. Xiao Wei's earlier performance was nothing short of Oscar-worthy, leaving Wang Chao and the others stunned. Looking at the bodies around them, Xiao Wei sighed in relief and said, "Another wave of Huangfu Yan's subordinates has been eliminated by us. Counting this, we've taken down five people already. A third of Huangfu Yan's Elite Eighteen have fallen at our hands."
Wang Chao smiled wryly. Since the moment he had gone berserk in Yucheng, a feud had been established—one that would not end until either he killed Huangfu Yan or Huangfu Yan killed him. This was merely the beginning; he just didn't know when Huangfu Yan's subordinates would come again. Wang Chao sighed and said, "Let's go. This matter is settled for now, but there are many more things to do."
Everyone nodded and turned their attention away from the corpses.
However, Wang Chao walked over to the bodies and arranged them neatly, giving them a semblance of dignity in death. At first, he hadn't known that Yiyi would utter that secret phrase. Although the subsequent developments spared him from making a difficult choice, Wang Chao had already made his decision in his heart: even if it meant killing all ten thousand people in the Safe Zone, he would save Yiyi.
Long ago, Wang Chao had told himself that he was no saint; he could only save others after ensuring his own people's safety. It might be cruel and bloody, but at that moment, his heart became resolute with a clear understanding of life. Thus, he helped retrieve the four bodies because he knew they intended to kill him for Huangfu Yan.
Each served their master; from their perspective, wasn't this also a form of loyalty?
Having come to terms with these thoughts, Wang Chao felt considerably lighter.
Just then, a chilling wind swept through the forest, causing everyone to shiver involuntarily. Suddenly, a mass of what appeared to be black gas surged toward them as if engulfing them in darkness. "Not good!" Wang Chao sensed something unusual about this black gas; it was filled with murderous intent that seemed capable of crushing bones upon contact.
Before Wang Chao could finish his warning, the black gas rushed in and enveloped them instantly. He felt as if someone were striking him from all directions; he had no ability to defend himself against it. Where the black gas spread was an impenetrable darkness that obscured his vision completely—Wang Chao's heart raced with terror.
This black gas arrived not only suddenly but also without any warning signs. More critically, no matter how hard Wang Chao fought back, it felt like punching into the ocean—there was no point of impact at all. This was what one would call an invisible enemy! At that moment, unable to see anyone else around him, Wang Chao blurted out, "Is anyone there?"
Immediately, voices echoed from all directions. Although they too were trapped in the black gas like him, they seemed unharmed. A weight lifted off Wang Chao's chest; however, he was surprised to find that their voices seemed to drift further away from him. Two minutes later, despite his frantic calls, there was no response from anyone else.
"Damn it, am I deaf?"
Wang Chao was lost in thought when suddenly he felt a heavy blow to the back of his head. Instantly, he felt dizzy and then his consciousness faded into nothingness.
Meanwhile, the others had already emerged from the area shrouded in black mist. They looked at each other, unsure of what had just happened. Suddenly, they realized something shocking: Wang Chao was missing. Everyone else was present, but Wang Chao had vanished without a trace. Yang Mengying asked, "Where's Wang Chao? Wasn't he just here with us?"
Shen Zhitao frowned and said, "Listen, you all go back first. A few of us will search for him. We can't be sure if Wang Chao is truly missing yet, but it definitely has something to do with that black mist. He might have gone to investigate it."
Leaving that aside, let's focus on Wang Chao. He groggily regained consciousness, only remembering being knocked out by a sudden blow to the head. Before that, there had been the encroaching black mist. His vision was blurry, but he vaguely saw a woman's silhouette in front of him. Instinctively, he said, "Yang Mengying, where am I? What just happened? I think I was attacked, but I'm fine now."
As he spoke, Wang Chao swayed and started to walk toward the figure.
However, before he could take more than a few steps, his legs gave way beneath him and he collapsed to the ground. This fall jolted him fully awake. Looking around, he realized this wasn't a forest at all; it was clearly a cave. In the dim light of the cave, Wang Chao saw several black monsters and a Three-Headed Zombie Dog.
Upon seeing Wang Chao, the monsters and the Three-Headed Zombie Dog bared their teeth as if they wanted to charge at him. Yet they seemed restrained by some unseen force; despite their hunger for flesh, they held back their instincts. In the center of their gaze stood a woman dressed in new clothes, her face partially obscured by hair.
Wang Chao couldn't tell whether this woman was human or a Zombie. If she were human, why weren't the Zombie Dogs and Black Monsters attacking her? But if she were a Zombie, Wang Chao saw no signs of injury or infection on her body, which was strange and unsettling. Who exactly was this woman? What connection did she have with the earlier black mist?
With these thoughts racing through his mind, Wang Chao cautiously asked, "Who are you?"
Upon hearing this, the woman in front of him began to tremble all over. Then an ear-piercing laugh erupted from her mouth, sounding like nails scraping against a wall.
"Wang Chao, you actually don't recognize me?" the woman said.
