The woman saw that Wang Chao neither resisted nor avoided her; instead, he stood there in a daze. She did not attack either, but leaned in closer to him and said, "What’s wrong? Are you finally remembering? It has been quite a struggle for me to find you these past six months. You must be terrified, right? With your skills, you are no match for me. But don’t worry, I won’t kill you so easily."
"My hatred, my suffering!" As she spoke, her tone fluctuated, rising and falling as if she were singing in Wang Chao's ear. She continued, "Even if I were to cut you into a thousand pieces, it wouldn’t quench my thirst for vengeance. I will make you watch as your friends die one by one before your eyes, and then I will kill you. What do you think of my plan?"
Wang Chao was still tangled in his own thoughts. Although this wasn’t his fault, he knew he could have helped her. The more people he killed, the more lost he felt about his future. However, upon hearing the woman’s words, clarity suddenly washed over him. He didn’t fully understand the situation yet, but he knew that if anything threatened those close to him, he could never allow it.
At that moment, Wang Chao didn’t hesitate any longer. The Panlong Blade reappeared in his hand as he swung it down. But the woman transformed into a swirl of black mist and swiftly floated backward. When the Panlong Blade struck her, it felt as though it had sliced through nothingness—like a cow sinking into the sea, leaving no trace behind. For some reason, the Panlong Blade had no effect on her.
Realizing this, Wang Chao stowed the Panlong Blade behind him and transformed both arms into Bone Knives. As he engaged with the black mist, he felt a tangible presence; although it was just a mass of darkness, it felt like striking steel and bone. The black mist dimmed significantly with each strike from Wang Chao’s Bone Knives.
He recalled how the woman had reconstructed her human form from black mist earlier; it had thickened gradually until she became whole. From this cause-and-effect relationship, Wang Chao understood that the black mist was indeed her essence. The more dispersed the mist became, the weaker she was—a realization that explained why he had felt so many things striking him in the forest without much force.
At that moment, the suppressed Three-Headed Zombie Dogs and Black Monsters surged forward—dozens of them—but Wang Chao paid them no mind. Unless they surrounded him like last time with hundreds of Zombies, these few monsters were insignificant to him. With two Bone Knives spinning like a whirlwind, Wang Chao sliced through them effortlessly.
Meanwhile, the black mist began to coalesce again at a distance. She observed Wang Chao’s transformation into Bone Knives thoughtfully before saying to him, "I didn’t expect you to have a mutation skill. It seems you’ve been bitten by Zombies too." As Wang Chao fought off enemies while listening to her words, he thought to himself that indeed he had been bitten—not just once either—but his recovery abilities were impressive.
Wang Chao even suspected that his formidable recovery capability might be his true mutation.
With this thought in mind, an idea suddenly struck him. He swung his Bone Knife from left to right in a crescent motion; several Zombie Dogs lunging at him were repelled by his strike. In just a few minutes, dozens of Zombie Dogs lay dead at his feet. Then Wang Chao activated his Breathing Technique and almost instantly appeared before the woman.
He swung his Bone Knife again; she immediately transformed into black mist and scattered amidst the flashes of light from his blade. Wang Chao only struck at a mass of darkness but noticed that she seemed to suffer damage from afar as well—this made him overjoyed. The woman hadn’t anticipated that his mutation skill could harm her.
To be honest, since the day she regained consciousness, her sole purpose had been to find Wang Chao and tear him apart piece by piece. However, as time passed, she discovered that there were indeed mutated humans in this world—different from herself—who remained human yet possessed unique skills.
Yet she was undeniably a Zombie, possessing human thoughts.
She realized that humans with antibodies could evolve step by step, while she herself had no remarkable abilities to speak of. One day, she encountered a mutated human of Silver Mid-Tier level. Faced with her transformed Zombie self, he showed no mercy and struck with his blade. In the face of such danger, she turned into a cloud of black mist and quickly fled.
His blade struck the mist, and she felt no harm at all.
Gradually, she began to understand her abilities. As black mist, no weapon in the world could harm her, unless it was a mutated skill. However, in this world filled with mutants, those possessing mutated skills were rare. It seemed she was an invincible existence. Moreover, she slowly discovered that she could control the actions of Zombies.
To say "control" wasn't entirely accurate; rather, she could interfere with their behavior. After six months, she finally learned that Wang Chao was in the Jing City Safe Zone. Thus, she commanded a massive wave of Zombies—tens of thousands—to destroy Wang Chao's Safe Zone, wanting him to experience the taste of losing everything and to feel the pain of watching someone dear die before him.
For this attack, she tirelessly ran about, constantly using her thoughts to interfere with each Zombie, gathering them one by one. Yet even so, she failed to kill Wang Chao and those around him. Unwilling to accept defeat, she transformed into black mist and exerted all her strength to bring Wang Chao back. She thought that with her ability to interfere with Zombie behavior and her escape skills, killing Wang Chao would be a piece of cake.
But who would have thought that Wang Chao possessed a mutated skill that had gone unnoticed until now?
Wang Chao pursued her as she turned into black mist to flee. However, whenever he moved away, she followed closely behind him, refusing to let go.
"Even if I can't kill you, as long as I follow you, I will surely find a flaw! At that time, you will have no place to bury your body!" the woman declared. Wang Chao cursed under his breath and sat down on the ground, asking, "What exactly do you want me to do? You are neither dead nor devoid of human thought; what more do you want?"
