This is a ferry, where Wang Xiaochuan was taken away. According to Zhu Feng, after the woman abducted Wang Xiaochuan, she boarded a boat from this ferry and crossed directly to the other side of the river, disappearing from everyone's sight. Fearing for Wang Xiaochuan's safety, the onlookers could only watch helplessly as the woman took him away.
Wang Chao looked at the ferry, which had rusted and fallen into disrepair over the years. It had been four years without maintenance, so it was naturally in a dilapidated state. Numerous boats were docked there, varying in size and shape, scattered across the water's surface. After four years without repairs, Wang Chao wondered if any of these boats were still operational. He tried several but found them all inoperable.
"Wang Chao!" Shen Zhitao called out. "This one can work."
Hearing Shen Zhitao's voice, Wang Chao turned to see her standing on a small tanker, waving at him. The vessel appeared to be a small oil tanker, likely prepared for passengers in the past. Although it was small, it seemed enormous to Wang Chao. Previously, he had only looked for yachts because they were easier to operate; he had no idea how to navigate a ship like this.
However, it was clear that Shen Zhitao knew what she was doing. Wang Chao shook his head inwardly; the Shen sisters seemed to excel at mechanics. As he spoke, he climbed onto the boat and quickly made his way onto the deck. It was chaotic up there, with several corpses scattered about, yet there were no zombies in sight—he couldn't quite grasp the situation. But they were just crossing the river; this wasn't a sightseeing trip.
True to her skills, Shen Zhitao managed to start the oil tanker, stirring up the surrounding waters and creating small waves. Wang Chao stood behind her, silently observing her actions and learning. Without turning around, Shen Zhitao remarked, "What’s wrong? You don’t know how to drive a boat?"
Wang Chao felt slightly caught off guard by her comment and cleared his throat twice before responding, "Of course I can! I’m just watching how skilled you are at operating it..."
Just as he finished speaking, there was a loud thud followed by a violent jolt of the ship as if something underwater had struck it. Both of them swayed sideways from the impact. "Peach, what happened? Did we hit something?" Wang Chao asked.
Shen Zhitao stood up and replied, "It's not that we hit something; it's that something hit us!"
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao didn't dwell on it further—this was one of his strengths: never underestimating anyone. Since Shen Zhitao said something had collided with their boat from below, he wouldn’t doubt her skills; perhaps this was one reason why he always attracted attention. "For something that could shake our large vessel so violently, it must be quite substantial!" he said.
Shen Zhitao nodded in agreement. "Indeed. It seems there are mutated creatures in this river."
Wang Chao furrowed his brow. The north and south were divided by this river; yet for so long, there hadn’t been a large influx of people crossing from south to north. This might be related to whatever lurked in the waters below. If many people wanted to cross this river, they would naturally use ferries; avoiding it would mean taking an uncertain detour elsewhere. As Wang Chao pondered this, another impact rocked the ship violently.
"Can we make it across?" The continuous collisions caused both of them to sway back and forth as Wang Chao gripped the vessel tightly and asked Shen Zhitao.
"I’m not sure," she replied succinctly.
Wang Chao nodded and, after a moment of thought, said to Shen Zhitao, "I'll go up to the deck and take a look. You keep steering the ship here."
Shen Zhitao nodded in agreement, and Wang Chao no longer hesitated as he stumbled up to the deck. In the cockpit, Wang Chao couldn't see what was beneath the water. Could it be a whale that had swum into the river? As he pondered this, he reached the deck. Suddenly, the ship tilted to the left, and the right side lifted out of the water, threatening to capsize.
However, Wang Chao ran upward against the direction of the ship's tilt. The slippery deck made it difficult for him to gain traction; if it weren't for his formidable strength, he might have found it nearly impossible to move. Reaching the right side, he gripped the railing tightly. At that moment, something beneath the water continued to strike against the hull. The right side of the ship kept rising, and the force of whatever was below was increasing rapidly. If this continued, the ship would soon capsize completely.
Despite this, the vessel continued moving forward and had covered three-quarters of its journey so far.
Wang Chao held onto the railing and peered carefully into the river. Suddenly, a massive shadow appeared before him. This shadow was over ten meters long and several meters wide; with its fins and dorsal fin, its width reached nearly ten meters. This monstrous fish was relentlessly battering against the ship. On its head was a bulbous growth that was red and white in color, looking mottled and uneven.
"Flowerhorn!" Wang Chao recognized this strange fish at once. This species is known for its intelligence and is often kept as a pet by wealthy individuals. While they are affectionate and playful with their owners, they exhibit extreme aggression towards other fish and strangers. The slightly raised skull at their front is clear evidence of this trait.
A typical one-meter Flowerhorn is already quite rare, but who would have thought that Wang Chao would encounter such a massive Flowerhorn measuring over ten meters? This creature had a strong territorial instinct; it was unclear whether it viewed the ship as prey or an adversary. Regardless, Wang Chao could no longer stand by idly. He retrieved his Submachine Gun from his Spatial Ring and began firing wildly at the surface of the water.
The bullets pierced through the water's surface, striking the creature repeatedly; however, it seemed to have little effect. The bullets could only penetrate a few centimeters before being stopped by the tough texture of the Flowerhorn's body. Just then, the Flowerhorn dove deep into the river and disappeared from sight without making a sound.
Just as Wang Chao let out a sigh of relief, suddenly, that Flowerhorn surged up from the riverbed with great force, ramming its skull into the lower right side of the ship. This time, the vessel could no longer maintain its balance; it was on the verge of sinking as water rushed onto the deck and flowed into the cabin.
"Shen Zhitao, we're going to capsize!" Wang Chao shouted desperately while gripping the railing. "Get out here quickly!"
Shen Zhitao felt the immense force of that impact as well. Before Wang Chao even called out, he had already started running toward the deck. Just as Shen Zhitao reached the deck, the ship completely overturned and capsized.
