The next thing that happened was everyone gathered around the large table to eat dumplings. In the past, during the New Year celebrations, Wang Chao always felt that eating such things frequently made them lose their appeal. However, as he ate now, it felt as if he were indulging in a feast of delicacies, especially when paired with aged vinegar; the taste was simply extraordinary. Everyone was enjoying the meal, except for Xiao Cao, who stared blankly at the dumplings. Wang Chao could only shake his head helplessly at this situation, feeling there was nothing more he could do. 0

While families in the North were peacefully celebrating this reunion day, the situation in the South was far from optimistic. It was already past one in the morning, and Aivina sat restlessly on the leather sofa in the Safe Zone office. Her brows were deeply furrowed, as if she carried some heavy burden. Aikun'er sat beside her, holding her hand, and she could clearly feel Aivina's body trembling. 0

If Wang Chao had seen this scene, he would have been astonished by this woman who usually remained unflappable even in dire situations. The one who rarely showed her emotions was now displaying fear and shock. Just then, the door was suddenly yanked open from outside. Aivina had her dagger poised at her chest, ready to attack as soon as the intruder entered. Upon recognizing who it was, Aivina took a deep breath before asking, "What’s going on?" 0

The person who entered was covered in blood and seemed to lack even the strength to walk. Aivina and Aikun'er hurriedly rushed forward to support him. They saw that his abdomen had a large gaping wound, and they could even see his insides moving from outside. If he hadn’t been at Platinum Tier level, he would have surely been dead by now; even so, he was on the brink of death. 0

"Run! That thing... he... run!" He struggled to speak, using all his strength to shout those words before closing his eyes forever, unable to utter another word. Aivina looked out at the flames already igniting outside and slowly lowered the body down. The monster had already come here, and just thinking about its appearance sent chills down Aivina's spine. 0

She didn’t know where this monster had emerged from; it was entirely green and covered in swollen pustules that would burst upon contact with a person like the most potent corrosive liquid imaginable. The large hole in that man's abdomen had been caused by this highly corrosive substance. The monster's head was enormous and featureless, resembling a green ball. 0

Its neck was supported by a thin appendage resembling a tentacle, much like the flying head monsters described in folklore—long and slender with red, yellow, and green veins constantly writhing on its surface. Its arms were exceedingly long; its claws nearly touched the ground. The claws resembled two scissors coming together, capable of cutting through even the hardest materials in an instant. From its wrist extended three dagger-like Bone Knives that were considerably smaller than Wang Chao's Bone Knife; it remained unclear which of them was tougher. 0

The monster's legs also bore similar Bone Knives and stood upright like a human but always hunched over. It had appeared in the South two weeks ago; initially near Yangnan Safe Zone. At that time, Aivina hadn’t thought much of it and assumed it was just an ordinary mutated creature. However, subsequent events left her utterly panicked. 0

In less than a day, this monster breached Yangnan Safe Zone, killing all one thousand Guards stationed there while residents fled in all directions. Approximately three to four thousand people died before the monster finally left; those who survived scattered without knowing where to go—Yangnan Safe Zone had effectively been destroyed. 0

Upon receiving this news, Aivina immediately led over a hundred members of Black Clothes Society toward Yangnan Safe Zone. On their way, they encountered this monster but were taken aback by its extraordinary power—it was at an extraordinary level far beyond their capabilities. Hundreds of them became mere moving targets; within an hour, all members of Black Clothes Society that Aivina brought along were annihilated by this creature. 0

Aivina realized she stood no chance against this monster and had no choice but to flee back to Zhonghu Safety Zone. However, what followed made her feel that this situation was far from simple; it seemed as if the monster was deliberately searching for someone or something specific. It consistently found Safe Zones and after destroying one would immediately set off to obliterate another. 0

In just one week, countless Safe Zones—large and small—were destroyed, leaving innumerable residents homeless and bereaved of their shelters. Yet Aivina found herself powerless; every method she tried—firearms or blades—had no effect whatsoever. Even when she personally engaged in battle, she found herself at a disadvantage and barely escaped with injuries. 0

At this moment, Aivina's wounds had not yet healed when she heard the news: the monster had finally arrived at the last remaining Safe Zone, the Zhonghu Safety Zone. Outside, the sound of walls crumbling echoed, and the cries and screams of people filled the air; chaos reigned outside. Aivina patted Aikun'er’s hand and said, "Kun, your mother has never let you go out alone. You know how much I love you." 0

Aikun'er nodded, tears streaming down her face. 0

Aivina nodded back and continued, "But today, you must go alone to the north and find Wang Chao. At this moment, perhaps he is the only one who can save us all in the south. Maybe he is the only one capable of facing that monster." 0

Aikun'er nodded but then shook her head again. She said, "Mom, I know that you and Brother Wang Chao are on opposing sides. Will Brother Wang Chao really agree? Will he risk everything to save us? He wants to take over the south too; wouldn’t it be better for him if we both end up defeated?" As a member of the Seven Great Families, Aikun'er understood this truth even in her teenage years. 0

Matters of emotion belong to feelings, while matters of interest belong to interests. 0

After hearing Aikuner's words, Aivina fell silent for a long time. Looking at the crumbling situation outside, she said softly, "Although I don't want to admit it, some things can only be known after taking a gamble. Perhaps he is a different kind of person!" Aivina gazed into the distance and added, "I must stay; this is the last Safe Zone. I have to give everyone an explanation!" 0
