The subsequent developments unfolded almost exactly as Wang Chao had anticipated. Previously, his mind had been a tangled mess, but now he had sorted through it all. He no longer had to worry about numerous issues, such as Zhang Fusheng's whereabouts, the mysterious troop's location, how to control the south, the situation with Xiaocao and the forces behind her, or the mutated monsters in the small city. This series of concerns had entangled Wang Chao's thoughts, making it difficult for him to know where to begin untangling them.
But things were different now. The ring from the Zhang Family had been returned to Zhang Fusheng, and he no longer needed to worry about the mysterious troop. The south was unified, and the reconstruction and protection efforts in the South Safe Zone were being handled by Xiao Wei, Shen Zhitao, and others, allowing him to focus on other matters. Although Zhang Fusheng had been found, he was likely not the same person he once was. The area around the small city was tightly controlled and surrounded, so there was no need to worry about mutated monsters breaching the Safe Zone.
The only two concerns left for Wang Chao were what Zhang Fusheng intended to do and the situation with Xiaocao and her backing forces. He recalled his first encounter with Xiaocao and found her peculiar. At that time, he had no idea that she was an emotionless being. He remembered being unable to gauge her strength; all he knew was that she was formidable and possessed technology that surpassed this world.
The Spatial Ring! This was crucial. In five years, aside from Xiaocao herself wearing a Spatial Ring, Wang Chao had not seen anyone else with one. Why had Xiaocao given him a Spatial Ring from the very beginning when his strength was still at the Brass level? Did she see potential in him? Even if she foresaw that he could become a controlling figure in Huaxia, what was her purpose?
During their time together over the past six months, Wang Chao learned that Xiaocao referred to someone as "Grandpa" who was behind her. However, he knew little else about this person—who they were, their intentions, or their connection to the Zombie crisis—was beyond his understanding. All he knew was that there was a connection.
He wondered how Zhang Fusheng compared to Xiaocao in terms of power. The thought suddenly crossed his mind, sending a chill down his spine; he hoped such a day would never come. Although both issues were challenging to resolve, at least only these two remained. After pondering for a moment, Wang Chao called out toward the outside, "Wang Xiaochuan, come in!"
Wang Xiaochuan immediately pushed open the door and entered with a standard salute. Upon his return, Wang Chao had already appointed him as Vice Captain of the Thunder Strike Team because the previous Vice Captain, Zhu Feng, had been assigned a mission before heading south, leaving this position vacant. With Wang Xiaochuan's return, it perfectly filled that gap.
"What can I do for you?" Wang Xiaochuan asked.
Wang Chao replied, "The military has been busy with construction work in the south; only our Thunder Strike Team has been idle because I have an important mission to assign you! Do you have confidence in completing it?"
"Thunder Strike Team has no mission we cannot accomplish!" Wang Xiaochuan saluted again.
Wang Chao nodded and said, "Zhang Fusheng, I believe the members of the Thunder Strike Team must know him."
"Zhang Fusheng?" Wang Xiaochuan asked with confusion, but he nodded heavily. "Zhang Fusheng is the Young Master of the Zhang Family. As the most elite special forces team, how could we not know him?"
"Exactly!" Wang Chao stood up, turned around, and said, "Zhang Fusheng did not commit suicide. I met him once in the south, and your mission this time is to find him!"
"Remember, Zhang Fusheng's strength is still unmatched. Your task is simply to locate him and report back to me as quickly as possible!" Wang Chao said with some concern. "When you find him, no matter what he is doing, do not act impulsively or try to stop him. Do you understand?"
"Understood!" Wang Xiaochuan replied. "I'll start making arrangements right away!"
Wang Chao nodded and waved his hand, signaling that Wang Xiaochuan could leave. This arrangement also meant that Wang Chao had decided to exclude Zhang Fusheng from their brotherhood. In the past, no matter what Zhang Fusheng was doing, Wang Chao would have wholeheartedly supported him. But now, he could no longer do that; he had to be cautious about whatever Zhang Fusheng was involved in.
Assigning this task to his security team was quite appropriate. First, this unit had encountered Zhang Fusheng many times when they were in the capital; every member knew him well. Second, Zhang Fusheng had a good relationship with this team. When Lei Father and Son were the captain and vice-captain of this Assault Team, they had interacted with Zhang Fusheng frequently. Even if Zhang Fusheng had plans of his own, it was unlikely he would take action against these people—this was Wang Chao's only source of reassurance and concern.
Because now Wang Chao couldn't be sure whether disrupting Zhang Fusheng's plans would provoke him into taking action against his own.
Looking out at the busy people outside, Old Master Zhang's words echoed in Wang Chao's mind: "Even if you cannot become Zhang Fusheng's brother, do not stand against him!" Wang Chao didn't know what kind of feelings Old Master Zhang had when he said those words, but it seemed prophetic now; perhaps it was a great irony that the old man had begun saying this when he first met Wang Chao.
"It seems today will be quite difficult," Wang Chao muttered to himself.
