Zhang Fusheng had already left Tibet, but no traces of him could be found elsewhere. Where on earth could Zhang Fusheng have gone? After making a call from the Yangnan Safe Zone, he still remained elusive. Wang Chao felt helpless; indeed, with such a vast land as Huaxia, finding one person was incredibly difficult. Was he destined to wait passively for Zhang Fusheng to reappear?
After greeting the leader of the Yangnan Safe Zone, Wang Luochuan, Wang Chao and Shen Zhitao prepared to return to Jing City. It had been two months since they set out, and spring had fully arrived. The trees along the roadside were sprouting new buds, exuding vitality. Riding Little Wolf towards Jing City felt like a journey of exploration and enjoyment, especially since few had the chance to experience such days in the past four years.
Suddenly, a figure appeared before Little Wolf—a girl whom everyone recognized. It was Xiaocao. Wang Chao was surprised by her sudden appearance, though it was somewhat expected; after all, Xiaocao was known for her elusive nature, capable of appearing and disappearing without warning.
"What are you doing here?" Wang Chao exclaimed. Before he could finish his sentence, Xiaocao dashed towards him at an incredible speed, her strength at the level of a king. Wang Chao, being only at the mid-level of extraordinary power, barely had time to react. Little Wolf and Shen Zhitao were even slower to respond as Xiaocao scooped Wang Chao up and took off at a speed that even Little Wolf couldn't match, leaving behind a howling Little Wolf and a stunned Shen Zhitao.
Wang Chao realized that Xiaocao was devoid of emotions. However, this was the first time he noticed that she didn't need to rest. As he watched the sun rise and set overhead, he understood that a day had passed. Throughout this time, no matter what Wang Chao said, Xiaocao ignored him completely, as if she had turned off her hearing. He vaguely sensed that the force behind Xiaocao was moving against him.
Who was controlling the emotionless Xiaocao?
Diving into the sea, Xiaocao resembled a fish swimming freely in the water while still maintaining control over Wang Chao. Eventually, they reached an island—not the old man's secret base but rather a small island found randomly in the ocean. She dropped Wang Chao onto the island and sat down on the ground. Not long after, her body became completely dry without a trace of water.
"Now can you tell me why you brought me here?" Wang Chao asked as he removed his clothes and wrung out the water.
Xiaocao shook her head. Wang Chao knew that if she didn't want to speak, she wouldn't say anything at all. Reasoning with her or appealing to her emotions would be futile because Xiaocao lacked feelings and wouldn't understand human logic. If it came to fighting, Wang Chao knew he couldn't defeat her either. Thus, there was little hope of extracting what he wanted from her unless she chose to share it willingly.
After a long silence, Xiaocao suddenly spoke up: "Let's make love."
When Wang Chao heard this, it felt as if someone had told him that aliens were inviting him to dinner tomorrow. Moreover, Xiaocao delivered this line with an expressionless face and devoid of any tone. It was simply unbelievable; Wang Chao even wondered if his ears had been submerged in water for too long or if something had gone wrong in Xiaocao's mind. He awkwardly stood up and seriously asked her, "Xiaocao, have you found emotions?"
Xiaocao shook her head again and replied, "Not yet! But I always feel there's something in my heart—vague and elusive—like I can grasp its tail but it keeps slipping away without revealing its full form... Perhaps I may never find emotions in my life or know what it feels like to cry. After living as a substitute for someone else’s existence, I know my fate is only destruction."
Wang Chao could not understand the meaning behind Xiaocao's words.
Xiaocao continued, "If it were a human saying these things, they would surely be sad, right? But I know I should feel sad at this moment, yet I don't have that feeling. Even if I were to leave this world forever in the next second, I could easily accept it."
Sadness, a story more sorrowful than sadness itself. Wang Chao looked at Xiaocao's profile and felt an overwhelming sadness. This feeling was indescribable for him, just as Xiaocao couldn't articulate what was in her heart. Emotions and the absence of them—who can clearly define such things? If there were no emotions, the old man wouldn't have released the Zombie Virus for one person, and if there were no emotions, Zhang Fusheng wouldn't have established the Vengeance Alliance.
If there were no emotions, would things be different?
"I promise I won't let you face a day of destruction," Wang Chao blurted out without hesitation. He was impulsive and deeply emotional. But if he weren't like this, would he have come this far? Would so many people steadfastly stand by his side? So, is it ultimately a good thing or a bad thing for living beings to have emotions?
Xiaocao forced a smile that met human standards, looking sweet and lovely. Then she lay on the beach, gazing at the sky. The sea breeze was warm, the sky was blue, and the clouds were white. This was Xiaocao's perception; she wouldn't express it by saying how delicious the clouds looked or how they resembled some small animal. She only had the most straightforward evaluation without any elaboration.
"Wang Chao, what's behind the clouds?" Xiaocao asked.
"What's behind the clouds? It must be heaven!" Wang Chao replied while also looking at the white clouds above. "With your vast knowledge, you should know that some people go to heaven as deities after they die, while others descend into hell to suffer. I always feel that I've endured enough suffering in my life; so really, whether I go to heaven or hell doesn't make much difference."
Xiaocao had rich knowledge and naturally knew that there was no heaven in this world; behind the clouds lay the universe. There were no deities in heaven—only God and angels. Wang Chao had mixed up Eastern and Western cultures. However, for the first time, Xiaocao didn't want to use her extensive knowledge to refute Wang Chao; instead, she nodded and said, "Some people think that behind the clouds is Xiaocao."
"Xiaocao?" Wang Chao pondered this meaning carefully. Once he understood it, he couldn't help but feel curious about the person who came up with such an idea. What a lovely person they must be to imagine such a scene! Wang Chao couldn't help but laugh and said to Xiaocao, "That's right! It's Xiaocao!"
Xiaocao nodded and then looked at Wang Chao seriously as she said, "I want to do something for myself before leaving this world. Let's make love!"
