For Lin Yuan, going out on an adventure boiled down to two types. The first was like watching a soap opera, leaving you drowsy and lethargic, wondering what you had just seen by the end.
The second type resembled a horror movie, filled with suspense and terror, making your hair stand on end and causing you to scream and flee, yet you could never truly escape.
Unfortunately for Lin Yuan, his current search and exploration was the perfect embodiment of the first type. Initially, he had been full of enthusiasm and excitement, but as time passed, it became clear that to maintain the best state regarding something, the best approach was to neither like nor dislike it. Otherwise, the consequences could be severe, and at this moment, Lin Yuan felt quite frustrated and gloomy.
He couldn't help but feel this way; anyone in his position would feel the same. The Auditory Radar generated four Three-Dimensional Projection images every second, but they were all ruins—completely different yet entirely the same. There was nothing else to see; it was monotonous to the extreme!
Yet Lin Yuan had to record every detail of these ruins and generate a Three-Dimensional Map in his Intellect for comprehensive analysis. Imagine trying to categorize areas of ruins in an endless sea of sand—Ruins Area One, Ruins Area Two, all the way up to Ruins Area One Hundred.
As if that weren't enough, there were no rewards for his efforts; it was still just ruins. Even though he constantly scanned three kilometers ahead with his Sniper Rifle's scope, nothing changed—it remained ruins!
Lin Yuan couldn't even imagine how massive this city must have been before it turned into ruins. He had already been outside Fortress Base for three whole days, searching in a fan-shaped pattern centered around it.
"Could it be that I'm heading in the wrong direction? Am I moving toward the center of this Ruined City?"
Lin Yuan pondered various possibilities in his mind; he was utterly bored. Aside from encountering a storm last night, there had been no unusual events—he would have welcomed even a single Anzhela Venom Bee as a distraction!
Nevertheless, Lin Yuan had to continue exploring. According to his initial plan, he needed to thoroughly explore a fifty-kilometer radius around Fortress Base. This would be his territory and safe zone—there was no room for carelessness.
Fortunately, if he moved forward another two kilometers to record the three-dimensional terrain in his Intellect and then searched laterally for fifteen kilometers, he would complete this first phase of exploration. However, this monotonous and disheartening exploration would have to be repeated dozens of times.
Grumbling under his breath, Lin Yuan skillfully leaped onto a nearby High Ground amidst the ruins. The Ruined City had been desolate for so long that many areas were buried under sand and dust. Without specialized exploration equipment, it was challenging to discover anything new; thus, he felt increasingly hopeless about the Ruined City.
The High Ground was originally supposed to be a building, but it had been completely demolished, leaving only a height of over thirty meters. It stood as the tallest vantage point in the area. Lin Yuan needed to use his sniper rifle's scope, which had a five-second delay, to observe the surrounding terrain within a three-kilometer radius, just to prevent any unexpected incidents.
However, to be honest, Lin Yuan did not believe there would be any special circumstances. He had already decided that this would be the end of his exploration. After all, the fifty-kilometer safety zone was sufficient to ensure the security of his Fortress Base. His requirements were not high; he simply wanted to enjoy himself, dismantle some parts when he had nothing else to do, and not be disturbed.
As soon as he jumped onto the High Ground, Lin Yuan quickly concealed himself behind a protruding slab. This material resembled reinforced concrete and was the most common in this Ruined City. At first glance, it looked like cement, but later Lin Yuan analyzed it with his Intelligent Brain Encyclopedia and discovered that it was actually a complex composite building material—resistant to earthquakes, fire, water, and theft. Its sturdiness could withstand attacks from a Rocket Launcher, rated between 0.5 to 0.8. Unfortunately, it was now in ruins.
Once hidden well enough, Lin Yuan skillfully deployed his third arm. Within a second, the Anti-Material Laser Sniper Rifle was resting on his 'shoulder.' Although this series of movements seemed simple, he took great pride in it as it represented his repair and assembly skills as well as his Civic Induction Transmission Rate. As ancient humans from the 21st century would say, this was a manifestation of soft power.
“Beep! Second Audio-Visual Radar activating... Connecting... Connection successful. Auditory Radar shared generation initiated. Projection range: three kilometers. Direction: 1015°.”
Amidst a series of tedious startup procedures and connections, Lin Yuan's Auditory Radar continued generating four Three-Dimensional Projections per second while also initiating a fifth projection. However, this fifth one appeared blurry and slow, as if the signal were about to collapse.
After a full five seconds, that fifth Three-Dimensional Projection finally appeared on Lin Yuan's Auditory Radar. Accurately speaking, it could no longer be called a Three-Dimensional Projection; it was merely a flat image. Fortunately, once past the delay period, this flat image was clear enough for Lin Yuan to analyze many details. Due to the delay, an image would only be generated every five seconds, resembling a slideshow.
“Direction 1015°, all clear—ruins. Based on the size and orientation of the ruins, I can deduce that this is an intermediate residential area approximately fifty stories high; it lacks excavation significance. Continuing on—direction 0900°,” Lin Yuan muttered unconsciously in his mind. This could also serve as practice for his sniper Basic Skills; otherwise, he would go insane from boredom.
“Direction 0785°, safe…”
“Direction 067°, safe… Wait a minute!”
At that moment, in the corner of the flat image transmitted by the Auditory Radar, there seemed to be a vague shadow. Despite appearing distracted and bored at present, Lin Yuan's Intelligence Level had already reached level ten. Thus, with just a glance at this very complex wide-angle image—almost capable of achieving degree angles—he could discern thousands of objects within it; something far beyond human capability. Therefore, even though the shadow was blurry, he quickly noticed it.
“Re-locking… Direction 067°… Safe? No way!”
As the new flat image was transmitted back, that blurry shadow did not appear at all. In that moment, Lin Yuan felt a chill run down his spine. Although he had no hair to stand on end, it was enough to propel him into a state of combat readiness. He continued to observe the various positions while his main tool, the Auditory Radar, operated at full capacity, rapidly scanning the entire 720-degree space within a radius of one hundred fifty meters around him.
He had to prepare for the worst!
