Three full minutes had passed!
Lin Yuan had found nothing. He no longer saw that vague shadow, after all, he had spotted it from three kilometers away. Given his currently poor observational skills, it would be a miracle if he could see it again!
However, Lin Yuan did not dare to let his guard down. Based on the previously enlarged flat image analysis, he had unearthed some information about that shadow. By comparing it with objects near the ruins, Lin Yuan could preliminarily determine that the entity casting the shadow was likely quite large, at least not something like the Anzhela Venom Bee. It appeared to be circular and capable of moving quickly across the ground, but he could not discern whether it was a Mechanical Warrior or a creature similar to the Anzhela Venom Bee—half biological and half mechanical.
What Lin Yuan feared most was actually the latter. From what he understood, there should not be any higher-level Mechanical Warriors in this Ruined City. Even if an F-Class Mech Warrior appeared, he could handle it without much difficulty; after all, knowing oneself and one’s enemy is key!
However, those half-biological, half-mechanical mutated creatures from Earth were different. Lin Yuan knew nothing about them, and if he encountered one, he would be at an absolute disadvantage!
At that moment on the High Ground, Lin Yuan continued to scan the suspicious location three kilometers away with his Second Audio-Visual Radar. He felt no boredom at all because this was essentially his Fortress Base's doorstep. If he couldn't figure out what that ghostly shadow was, the safety of his base would always be under threat.
Unfortunately, the result was disappointing; that ghostly shadow seemed to have vanished. After hesitating for a long time, Lin Yuan finally decided he couldn't just hide like a turtle. No matter what that thing was, he needed to find out. The best way to do this was to go personally; as long as he approached that area, he was sure to uncover some clues.
His Auditory Radar had improved significantly; with a Three-Dimensional Projection rate of four images per second, his targeting speed had increased. Coupled with his enhanced Intelligence Level and overall Firepower boost, he felt confident that there wouldn’t be too much danger.
After making this decision, Lin Yuan carefully descended from the High Ground, trying not to make any noise as he moved toward the location three kilometers ahead. With each distance covered, he paused to meticulously map out the three-dimensional terrain of the surrounding ruins. This was crucial in case a battle broke out; he needed to be able to evade quickly without panicking.
At the same time, the Second Audio-Visual Radar on his Sniper Rifle was fully operational, keeping an eye on the distance, though its effectiveness might not be great.
After spending more than ten minutes, Lin Yuan finally arrived at the spot where he initially spotted the ghostly shadow. Once there, his Auditory Radar swiftly began its search. Every tiny particle on the ground’s ruins fell within his scanning range. Thousands of targets were rapidly analyzed and eliminated by Lin Yuan's Intellect each second. Amidst this rapid computation akin to racing cars, he finally made a significant discovery: on the surface of a composite building material lay a trace—specifically, just a single point that looked quite inconspicuous.
However, as more points were discovered—the second and third—Lin Yuan's Intellect calculated that these seemed to be traces left by some creature passing through. They were sharp, agile, and precise!
Lin Yuan suddenly imagined a terrifying creature, sharp as a dagger and swift as the wind, but before he could fully form the image in his mind, the three-dimensional image generated by his Auditory Radar revealed another discovery. With a rustling sound, something dark emerged from a nearby ruin, wriggling rapidly!
This sight was all too familiar to him; he had seen it many times when he was still human. It was the dung-rolling Scarab!
However, this Scarab was unusually large, oval-shaped and measuring a full fifty centimeters in length. Its eight powerful legs were currently digging out a massive Metal Ball with a diameter of at least one meter from the rubble. Inside the Metal Ball, various metal tools were clearly visible, all compressed together by an immense force and glued together by a layer of white liquid—quite bizarre.
Lin Yuan was dumbfounded. He never expected that in this world, even Scarabs had evolved; instead of rolling dung balls, they were now rolling Metal Balls.
At that moment, basic information about this Scarab appeared in Lin Yuan's mind.
"Variant half Mechanical Body half Lifeform, Razor Beetle. Origin: Earth. After the New Energy Crisis, it underwent significant mutation, possessing half Mechanical Body and half Lifeform characteristics. It feeds on various metal ores, particularly favoring Centrifugal Stone Ore. It has rapid digging skills and agile movement. Danger level: one star. Other data unknown..."
Upon seeing the one-star danger level indicator in this information, Lin Yuan couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine. This creature was clearly more formidable than the Anzhela Venom Bee; after all, there was no danger level indicator for the Anzhela Venom Bee! And what kind of name was Razor Beetle? It sounded terrifying!
Without further thought, Lin Yuan's Auditory Radar quickly locked onto the Razor Beetle that was diligently rolling the Metal Ball. As the saying goes, "The early bird catches the worm." He certainly didn't think that this Razor Beetle would have a favorable impression of him just because he refrained from attacking!
In that instant, three Laser Guns that had long been charged fired simultaneously. This marked Lin Yuan's first battle since his complete modifications. Thanks to the boost from the Energy Engine, these three Laser Guns dealt a total of 7 points of damage.
Following closely behind, the rather lackluster Anti-Material Laser Sniper Rifle also fired quickly. This was the advantage of seizing the initiative; even though there was significant delay with the Sniper Rifle, it could still fire off a shot!
The power of that shot exceeded Lin Yuan's expectations, dealing 40 points of damage—one point above its base damage. Truly worthy of being called a Sniper Rifle.
However, before Lin Yuan could revel in his excitement, his Auditory Radar suddenly went dark. In that moment, the Razor Beetle that had been over fifty meters away abandoned the Metal Ball and darted toward him at an astonishing speed—so fast it left him speechless!
