In his heart, Lin Yuan silently shouted a thank you and decisively dropped to the ground, playing dead without moving. This decision stemmed from his knowledge of bees from his previous life; these creatures were relentless. Unless you could run faster than them, the more you ran, the more excited they became in their pursuit. Therefore, pretending to be dead was not a bad strategy at all.

At that moment, the mass of Colin Red Hornets erupted into chaos. In an instant, they all lunged forward, countless thick and dark stingers diving straight down!
Lin Yuan watched from a distance using his Auditory Radar, his heart racing at the thought of how painful that must be!
Sure enough, just as the Mutated Mechanical Mouse had burrowed halfway into the ground, it got stuck. In just three seconds, its lower body began to swell rapidly; its original mechanical form transformed into a vivid green appearance. He could even see emerald veins inside—it was bizarre.
Then hundreds of Colin Red Hornets seized the Mutated Mechanical Mouse and flapped their wings in unison like red helicopters, forcibly pulling it up from the ground. They flew triumphantly toward their nest while others closely followed to guard and await their feast.
At this point, the unfortunate Mutated Mechanical Mouse was still alive and continued to squeak incessantly—whether out of resentment for itself or for Lin Yuan remained unclear.
Regardless of the reason, Lin Yuan had finally survived. He lay still for what felt like an eternity before escaping in a rather disheveled manner. This time he truly understood what terror meant!

He didn’t have much luck left to escape death repeatedly.
But how could he continuously grow stronger? It seemed that his only option was to keep killing Razor Beetles to collect Biological Alloy to refine and strengthen his Mechanical Body. Beyond that, there really wasn’t a better shortcut!
If only he could get his hands on a powerful weapon, like a shotgun with immense firepower! Lin Yuan still vividly remembered the bullet holes from penetrating shots in that building.

Thinking of shotguns, Lin Yuan suddenly recalled that in the Storage Room Four of Fortress Base, he had discovered many firearms, most of which were Energy Weapons like Laser Guns. There were also a few gunpowder weapons. At that time, he had been busy dismantling Mouse One and hadn’t paid much attention to them. With this thought in mind, Lin Yuan made his decision. True, he didn’t currently possess a more powerful weapon, but he was a Repairman! He could assemble things. Even if conditions were limited and he couldn’t create a more powerful weapon, improving it slightly should be possible—like increasing Energy Output or reducing cooling time; these were all ways to enhance damage!
If he could reduce the cooling time of his current Laser Sniper Rifle from five seconds to three or even two seconds, it would almost double the damage!
For a moment, Lin Yuan forgot his earlier frustration and found new motivation as he began to return to his Fortress Base.
The journey was uneventful without any unexpected dangers. However, unable to resist his curiosity, he detoured back to the abandoned building and discovered that the survivor who had lingered there had merely passed through; they hadn’t returned and likely left long ago.
Lin Yuan finally felt at ease. No matter what, in this desolate world, he still had a Fortress Base to retreat to after facing setbacks.
Having run nearly three hundred kilometers, it took him four hours to return to the City Ruins. When he saw the monotonous and dreary ruins, he felt an unexpected sense of familiarity; this place was truly his home!
The ruins remained unchanged and desolate, with even the Mechanical Creatures rarely visiting. Yet, this was the place where Lin Yuan felt most secure. Out in the wasteland, he would genuinely worry about being taken out by a Mechanical Mouse at any moment.
Upon returning to the Fortress Base, he greeted Nai, the intelligent mining vehicle that was safely tucked away in a corner. Lin Yuan input commands and supplied it with five units of energy, allowing it to entertain itself for a while. These five Standard Energy units were equivalent to zero units of Low-Level Energy, more than enough for the intelligent mining vehicle to keep busy.
As for what it would do, Lin Yuan thought it didn't really matter. At the very least, it was a companion! In this barren world where not even a bird could be seen, having a safe and harmless moving entity around made loneliness feel a little less overwhelming.
