Above the Vast Wilderness, there was not a trace of life to be seen, not even a piece of flying plastic waste. The entire world was terrifyingly desolate and silent, as if time itself had become utterly useless here; what difference did it make between one second and ten thousand years?
At some unknown point, in the distance at the edge of this wilderness, a faint shadow seemed to emerge, gradually drawing closer until it became clear. It was a peculiar presence, impossible to determine whether it was a lifeform or an unconscious passerby. Regardless, it was undoubtedly an odd entity.
It bounced rhythmically, each jump precisely one meter—no more, no less. If one were to connect all its footprints into a line, they would be astonished to find it formed a perfect straight line with no deviation whatsoever.
It resembled the hand of a mechanical clock, forever unchanged.
However, anyone who dared to think so would be completely mistaken!
Lin Yuan felt he was on the verge of madness due to his sudden obsession with exploration. Five days ago, he had left that nameless town and continued northward. Yet after traveling five or six hundred kilometers, the desolation only deepened. There was nothing around him, let alone the Razor Beetle he desperately wanted to find.

Along the way, Lin Yuan speculated that perhaps in some area to the north, there existed something unknown that continuously absorbed Centrifugal Stone Energy, which explained the bizarre increase in energy consumption by his Mechanical Body.
Similarly, this could clarify why there were fewer Mechanical Creatures seen as he ventured further north; they thrived on metal and Centrifugal Stone Energy. Since there was no energy available here, they naturally would not appear.
This curiosity led Lin Yuan to a place one thousand kilometers away from his Fortress Base, and it seemed the truth was still far out of reach.
Lin Yuan had no choice but to set a goal for himself: to move forward for another hundred kilometers. If he found nothing, he would turn back immediately.
As White Day passed and night fell, Lin Yuan continued his mechanical march, constantly observing his surroundings, though the results were consistently fruitless.
Of course, that wasn't entirely accurate; in some aspects, he did make some discoveries. For instance, the path he had taken should have been close to a straight line. However, after traveling a hundred kilometers from the abandoned town, he had not seen even a single hill within the range of his Second Audio-Visual Radar. All he could see was a vast expanse of flat land. He was almost certain that this flatness was not man-made; it seemed more like some powerful force had forcibly flattened it, which was quite eerie.
At Lin Yuan's current speed, a hundred kilometers was merely a matter of moments. Yet when he arrived, he finally noticed a massive Deep Pit three kilometers ahead.
Even standing still, his Energy Engine would lose 0.000001 units of Standard Energy here. Although this figure seemed small, it was enough to send chills down his spine.
After some hesitation, Lin Yuan decided he should approach and take a look, even though it might entail unknown dangers.
He cautiously moved closer. As he gradually neared the edge of the Deep Pit, he suddenly realized that this place appeared to be an abandoned military base. According to what his Second Audio-Visual Radar detected, it was extraordinarily grand; he couldn't see the entire structure but could confirm that the source of energy loss from his Energy Engine lay within.
At that moment, Lin Yuan dared not be careless. He circled around the Deep Pit and calculated its circumference to determine the size of this military base.
The result shocked him: the diameter of this Deep Pit base was a full thirty kilometers. Based on the Three-Dimensional Image generated by his Second Audio-Visual Radar, it could be inferred that this Deep Pit base was Vortex-Shaped, with many Strange Architectures built along its edges. So far, however, he had not detected any immediate dangers aside from the continuous energy drain.
All this information left Lin Yuan conflicted: should he continue exploring or turn back? He was certain that if he ventured deeper, the energy loss would increase. While there was no immediate threat to his life, it could lead him into a dormant state. Eventually, when his last bit of energy was exhausted, he would be finished—never to awaken again.
Nevertheless, his curiosity was insatiable. Ultimately, Lin Yuan decided that if his energy loss reached 0.0001 units per second, he would withdraw immediately. At the very least, he could investigate those peculiar structures along the edge of the Deep Pit because he had an inkling that this place might not be constructed by humans.
Having made up his mind, Lin Yuan no longer hesitated and quickened his pace as he charged into the entrance of the Deep Pit. The entrance was a road five hundred meters wide that spiraled downwards around the Deep Pit. On this road, there were no visible objects at all; however, he could confirm that this place had experienced a great battle because there were numerous dense bullet marks at the entrance of the Deep Pit. It was impossible to tell whether they were left by human military forces or by the Mechanical City’s forces.
Cautiously, Lin Yuan descended as if he were a thief, meticulously searching the peculiar structures lining the road. These buildings were styled in a way that was completely different from the 1st century, appearing more high-tech, leaving him unable to make any judgments.
After walking a full circle along the wide spiral road, Lin Yuan estimated that he had descended a whole hundred meters, yet he still found nothing.
At that moment, his Auditory Radar suddenly detected something ahead. About two hundred meters down the road, there was an obstacle resembling a Checkpoint, but its upper half had been destroyed. Only the ground bore distinct grid markings, each diamond-shaped and rendered in vibrant colors, creating an eerie spectacle.
Lin Yuan approached cautiously, but to his surprise, the grid markings suddenly came to life. They rose from the ground and swiftly transformed into a massive beam resembling a Cube. The beam continuously shifted and morphed until nine beams of light enveloped Lin Yuan. He was taken aback as these beams inexplicably stripped away the autonomy of his Energy Engine. Just as he was about to be terrified out of his wits, a cold mechanical voice echoed through the vast Deep Pit: "Locking onto outsider. Identity verification in progress. F4 level remote close-combat hybrid Mechanical Warrior. Mechanical City identity verification in progress. Identification Number: d00981547. Identity verification complete. Outsider identity: Mechanical City Secondary Citizen. You are granted access to the Mechanical City Sub-base. Citizen d00981547, welcome."
