The stars in the night sky, even thousands of years later, remain so beautiful. Despite not sleeping, this does not hinder Lin Yuan's appreciation. Half-reclining on a hard hill, he senses the faint night breeze that he cannot truly feel. He thinks that this kind of life doesn't seem too bad.
A soothing and beautiful English song plays in his Auditory Radar, though he doesn't understand its meaning. Yet, he finds it very pleasant. This is a sound recorded from the ancient Electronic D using his Intellect. Whether he understands it or not, what difference does it make?
The beauty of the world does not necessarily require one to see it with their own eyes. Sounds do not lose their charm simply because their meanings are unknown. Every thing has countless variations; as long as hearts can resonate with each other, it is eternal!
Just like Lin Yuan cannot see the brilliant starlight—after all, his Second Audio-Visual Radar only has a three-kilometer range—who can be sure that the brilliance of those stars hasn't left an impression in his heart?
The beauty of life does not change due to differences in appearance.
Of course, as an apprentice with a level five repair and assembly skill, if Lin Yuan wants to see the starlight, he can certainly do so. How could such a thing be difficult for him?
When he set out from the S-5 Sub-base earlier, Lin Yuan installed a device on his Mechanical Body that he named the 'Secondary Refraction Three-Dimensional Projection Instrument' to achieve a longer warning distance. Admittedly, the name is a bit cumbersome.
In essence, it operates on the principle of a single-lens reflex camera's long-distance lens projection.
Lin Yuan discovered several single-lens reflex cameras and a large array of lenses with various focal lengths among the treasures left behind by century-old cave dwellers. Thus, he crafted this device to view more distant landscapes. Want to see farther scenery? No problem—simply use a telephoto lens to transmit distant views back and synchronize them with his Auditory Radar. Then, based on the three-dimensional imaging program he previously stored in his Intellect, he can convert this two-dimensional image into a Three-Dimensional Image. In this way, he can clearly see distant landscapes up to ten kilometers away!
Isn't that amazing? At least Lin Yuan thinks it's quite remarkable and narcissistically feels a bit like Edison!
Of course, this so-called Three-Dimensional Projection is nothing but a fake Three-Dimensional Projection, as it cannot provide a full 360-degree observation. Moreover, the speed at which it generates from Intellect is quite slow, requiring at least three seconds of buffering. Therefore, it can only be used to observe scenery and provide early warnings, including stargazing, which is not too bad!
“Goo—goo—gugugu—”
Just as Lin Yuan was taking a moment to enjoy the starlit sky, a strange sound suddenly echoed from afar. Although the sound wasn’t particularly terrifying or eerie, it startled him greatly in the quiet wilderness.
In an instant, the Auditory Radar quickly locked onto the source of the sound, while the Second Audio-Visual Radar activated for tracking. The Sniper Rifle and Energy Converter went into overdrive, entering a state of hyper-explosion to deliver massive damage to any approaching enemy.
The entire process took less than a second, showcasing how much Lin Yuan's combat instincts had improved.
Almost simultaneously, about two point five six kilometers away, a dark figure emerged from underground. Upon seeing this creature through the Second Audio-Visual Radar, Lin Yuan felt an intense surge of animosity—this was indeed a case of enemies meeting!
This was none other than the Mechanical Mouse that had once chased him underground, leaving him in a desperate situation where he nearly met his end. Although this Mechanical Mouse was not the same as that one, they looked identical.
Without hesitation, Lin Yuan opened fire. The Laser Sniper Rifle streaked through the night like a shooting star, hitting the Mechanical Mouse right in its eye as it poked out from underground. This shot was a critical hit; given that his Sniper Rifle was an enhanced version, this single strike dealt three hundred points of damage to the Mechanical Mouse!
What a thrill! Thinking back to how despondent he had been back then!
With a light whistle in his mind, Lin Yuan fired again. Since he was half-lying on the ground and hadn’t moved at all, the Mechanical Mouse couldn’t lock onto his position immediately. He struck again at the previous wound; despite its high Health Points, it lost more than half of them in that blow.
However, before Lin Yuan could revel in his success for too long, an angry squeaking sound came from afar. Suddenly, ten or more massive black shadows emerged from that direction—this was a whole group of Mechanical Mice having what seemed like a gathering!
For a moment, Lin Yuan seriously considered turning around and fleeing. However, he held himself back and ceased firing; this was no longer about him hunting mice but rather about avoiding becoming prey himself.
After remaining silent for quite some time, it seemed those Mechanical Mice still hadn’t noticed Lin Yuan’s presence. They were merely peeking around angrily in place, which made him feel quite wonderful. It turned out that all those seemingly terrifying paper tigers had their weaknesses.
But just at that moment, Lin Yuan suddenly felt a faint tremor coming from beneath the hill, and then the frequency of the tremor began to increase at an alarming rate!
"Is there going to be an earthquake?"
As soon as that thought crossed his mind, Lin Yuan, half-reclining on the hill with his Mechanical Body, was suddenly propelled into the air by a tremendous force. He then realized that a giant Mechanical Mouse with tusks and claws was emerging from underground, its mouth wide open, waiting for him to fall!
"Oh no!"
Cursing inwardly, Lin Yuan felt utterly frustrated. How could he have been discovered like this? Could these Mechanical Mice be any more monstrous?
Fortunately, Lin Yuan was not defenseless. He quickly rotated his waist, extending his first Mechanical Arm and Third Mechanical limb to form a propeller. This maneuver slightly reduced his descent speed while allowing him to drift sideways!
Following that, his Auditory Radar locked onto the gaping mouth of the Mechanical Mouse. He fired a shot from his Sniper Rifle; he didn't know the outcome, but he heard the Mechanical Mouse let out a wretched cry before it began rolling on the ground!
However, at that moment, Lin Yuan had no time to appreciate the scene because a dozen more Mechanical Mice in the distance were baring their teeth and charging toward him ferociously!
"Sigh! I have to escape!" Lin Yuan sighed helplessly, activating his Mechanical Legs and gracefully embarking on a desperate flight under the starlight!
