Lin Yuan had a fondness for the Cunning Rabbit, but not the one chased by mad dogs; rather, he admired the Cunning Rabbit's three burrows. For a long time, the S-5 Sub-base provided him with a sense of security, and there was even a period when he dreamed of traveling to Mechanical City.
However, once he began to doubt the Gatekeeper, the S-5 Sub-base no longer felt safe in his eyes. Thus, he decided to seek a new refuge, one that would also facilitate his game of hide-and-seek.
Not long ago, Lin Yuan had straightforwardly rejected the flight route offered by the Gatekeeper. It wasn't just a few simple maps; it was a database that needed to be integrated into Intellect, allowing one to easily manage various secure flight paths across the globe.
In the past, Lin Yuan might have been intrigued by such an offer. But now, he wouldn't fall for it. His understanding of mechanical repairs didn't mean he could fend off software viruses. The flight data was precisely that kind of threat.
He didn't care what the Gatekeeper suspected. Just as he couldn't do anything about the Gatekeeper, the Gatekeeper couldn't do anything about him—unless that bastard dared to defy the principles set by Mechanical City. But that was impossible; the S-5 Sub-base could suffer losses, go bankrupt, or become a mess, but it absolutely could not be breached by Mutants. Otherwise, Mechanical City would surely intervene.
Moreover, Lin Yuan suspected that the Gatekeeper was likely colluding with those Mutants; he had some evidence to support this theory.
For instance, according to his investigations, the locations where those Mutants had previously appeared were centered around the Mutated Yellow Sand Jade Ore and were very far from the S-5 Sub-base. Within a radius of fifteen hundred kilometers, it was hard to spot any Mutants. Otherwise, Lin Yuan might have encountered them early on and been eliminated; back then, he had been quite carefree.
However, shortly after taking over the S-5 Sub-base, a Mutant had directly targeted him with a Rocket Launcher. Was that just a coincidence?
Absolutely not!
Aside from the internal sabotage by the Gatekeeper, how could those Mutants so easily detect his presence?
Therefore, he didn't mind giving them a surprise.
However, this would certainly be a long journey; he needed to be fully prepared.
Lin Yuan currently possessed ten Heavy Sniper Rifles capable of firing Firestone High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Rounds and three Miniature Nine-Tube Rocket Launchers—all equipped with guided tracking systems—quite impressive indeed. Additionally, he had two pistols named Mighty Bull and five Firestone High-Explosive Assault Rifles, along with fifteen standard F5 Laser Assault Rifles.
Besides these weapons, he had also acquired fifteen sets of Exoskeleton Armor.
All of this was obtained through his Sonic Boom Attack at the Observation Tower and included fifteen heads of Mutants—a significant haul.
The only downside was that ammunition was scarce. He only had fifty-seven rounds for the powerful nine-tube guided Rocket Launcher. This weapon was capable of targeting aircraft and measured just twenty centimeters in length—resembling a large cigar and exuding an air of nobility. According to data from the Intelligent Brain Encyclopedia, its maximum range was one hundred kilometers with an extremely high initial velocity. Since it was nine-tube mounted, it could fire nine rockets in quick succession and lock onto targets for rapid pursuit. Essentially, if an aircraft reacted even slightly slowly, it would be taken out instantly. However, this weapon posed no threat to Lin Yuan's Mouse One; yet against those Mutant aircrafts, it would be simply marvelous.
Aside from the Rocket Launcher, what Lin Yuan took the most pride in was the Firestone High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Round. This powerful ammunition could penetrate Mutant armor with a single shot, making it simply marvelous. Unfortunately, he had only managed to collect one hundred eighty of them, clearly indicating that the Firestone High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Round was quite expensive to produce. As of now, Lin Yuan had no way to manufacture more.
The third type of ammunition was the Firestone High-Explosive Assault Round. Its lethality was significantly weaker, only one-tenth that of the Firestone High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Round. The craftsmanship was rough and hardly worth mentioning, but there were plenty of them—Lin Yuan had gathered around fifteen hundred. He also noticed that this type of ammunition was likely assembled by the Mutants themselves.
With this in mind, Lin Yuan had an idea: to install an assault rifle on his Mechanical Body for increased firepower, which could only be beneficial.
In addition to these items, Lin Yuan packed a large assortment of spare Parts and Repairman tools, including various treasures he had collected and a substantial amount of e7-level standard Protective Coating he had concocted.
Once everything was prepared, Lin Yuan couldn't help but whistle lightly in relief as he boarded Mouse One and started the engine. Turning back, he saw the shadowy figure of the Gatekeeper watching from a distance, somewhat ominous. However, he paid it no mind, extending a Mechanical Arm and giving a middle finger gesture before pulling the throttle. With a roar, he shot off from the launch platform, accelerating without regard for the Observation Towers or patrolling aircraft belonging to the Mutants below, heading westward at full speed.
As soon as Lin Yuan's Mouse One vanished from sight, the shadowy Gatekeeper flickered and appeared instantaneously in the east direction, five hundred kilometers away at the edge of the S-5 Sub-base's air defense identification zone. This marked the limit of his operational range as an Intellect Exiled Butler.
He waited less than a minute when a black shadow streaked through the sky at high speed. It seemed only slightly slower than Lin Yuan's Mouse One, but more importantly, it was clearly a higher-grade combat aircraft.
When the black aircraft landed silently on the ground and its hatch opened, five or six Mutants clad in specialized combat armor rushed out and began assembling quickly. In no time at all, they completed a jamming information tower. Once activated, Gatekeeper's virtual shadow flew out and entered the aircraft. Within two seconds, a towering five-meter Mechanical Warrior emerged.
This Mechanical Warrior exuded an intimidating presence; although humanoid in shape, its Weapon Equipment was of exceptionally high quality. If Lin Yuan were present, he would be utterly astonished because this Mechanical Warrior had already reached e7 level and was on the verge of advancing to d1 level—considered quite formidable even within Mechanical City.
What was even more unbelievable was that when this terrifying Mechanical Warrior spoke, its voice bore no distinction from that of Gatekeeper.
"Ah! The feeling of possessing immense power is truly wonderful! Damn it! That country bumpkin! If it weren't for that bastard, I should have been able to slip away unnoticed by now. Instead, I have to wait for him to die before I can continue—how infuriating!"
"Haha! My friend, why be so impatient? That kid won't escape this time. To deal with him, I specifically purchased this Black Feather Fighter from that damned smuggler; it can reach speeds up to five times the speed of sound. Catching up to him will be no problem at all! Moreover, the Black Feather Fighter is equipped with an omnidirectional energy monitoring System capable of detecting energy fluctuations suppressed by 97%. As long as he's within a thousand kilometers radius while flying, he absolutely won't escape. If he dies under the infamous Phantom Ion Missile attack, he'll at least die with some dignity!"
Laughter erupted as another young man dressed in black emerged from the Black Feather Fighter. He stood an impressive two meters sixty tall with an extraordinarily perfect physique resembling golden proportions. A small red flame flickered on his forehead, giving him an eerie appearance.
"Ghost Ion Missile? You really are extravagant; it takes 10 million Mechanical Coins just to smuggle one! Using it on that country bumpkin—don't you feel any regret? Why not handle it yourself? As an e-Class Hunter, it should be easy enough," suggested Gatekeeper.
"Alright, as you wish, my friend, but that Country Bumpkin seems to be getting more and more formidable and cunning. He either hides in that damned Sub-base for years without showing up, or he pilots that cursed Phantom Aircraft, disappearing without a trace. Unless I use the Ghost Ion Missile, I really can't take him down. You know I don't have that much time to waste here. If Lady Ji finds out, we're both in deep trouble! So if that guy dares to pull any more tricks, I'll use the Ghost Ion Missile without hesitation!" the Ural gritted his teeth.
"You don't need to worry. That Country Bumpkin seems to be a bit suspicious of me now. Just a moment ago, he packed his bags and flew out like he was moving. If I'm not mistaken, he's looking for another hiding spot. That foolish Country Bumpkin thinks he's clever; he probably doesn't realize that the safest place for him on this entire planet is the Sub-base, right? Ural, if you still can't catch him after this, then as an e-Class Hunter, you're not much better than nothing," Gatekeeper sneered.
"Okay, that sounds like good news!" The Ural seemed to be wary of Gatekeeper and didn't care about the mockery at all. He smiled slightly and raised his wrist, pressing a few buttons on the delicate instrument above. "Let's see, according to the Observation Tower's report, he's heading west. Is he planning to enter the Pacific? He's got guts; I hope he dives into the Hurricane Cloud Layer—that would be the best news."
"Don't underestimate him. That Country Bumpkin probably wants to go to another continent. He doesn't know much about the flight routes; those Hurricane Cloud Layers in the Pacific will give him a hard time, but he should be able to get through. However, he'll likely get lost. So you just need to get to the other continent ahead of time to intercept him. Whatever it takes, I don't want to see him back at the Sub-base."
Gatekeeper said bitterly. He held a deep grudge against Lin Yuan; under the rules of Mechanical City at the Sub-base, he couldn't deal with Lin Yuan at all. Otherwise, he would have killed that brat long ago. After all, he had spent a thousand years setting up traps and deceiving three Executives just to end up with this empty s-5 Sub-base state. If it weren't for that damned Country Bumpkin Lin Yuan showing up, in just a few more years, according to Mechanical City laws, he would have become the true Executive of this s-5 Sub-base!
Damn it!
Truly damn it!
Even tearing that Country Bumpkin into pieces wouldn't quell his hatred!
