Heroic Figures have always been the most envied and admired profession in the world. They drink heartily, feast on meat, divide treasures generously, and are followed by various beautiful women, basking in glory and leaving a legacy that lasts through the ages.
Lin Yuan also aspired to be one of these Heroic Figures. He envisioned himself, with great authority, wielding the Hunter's Longsword, effortlessly slicing off the heads of five Mutant Guards, and then slaughtering everyone in the base.
However, reality is often cruel. After careful calculations, Lin Yuan realized that if he charged in for a reckless attack, even if he managed to kill those five Mutant Brutes, the outcome would likely not be favorable. The alarm would sound, and he would be pursued by a horde of Mutants, with no escape route in sight. He would go from hero to a mere bear.
Lin Yuan did not want to be a dead hero, but he also disliked the idea of being a living bear. He believed that if he missed this opportunity, he might never get another chance to ambush the Mutant base.
Thus, he decisively crept forward and took cover about a thousand meters from the Gate, patiently waiting. He had plenty of time and did not believe that these Mutated Clones would go without food forever; he had witnessed this firsthand before.
Of course, Lin Yuan also remembered to reduce his Energy Engine output to 90% to avoid detection.
For three whole days, Lin Yuan waited patiently. During this time, he noticed that the Mutants changed shifts every twelve hours and that the incoming Mutant Guards did not actively patrol; they seemed to have already deemed everything safe.
However, during the brief moments of shift changes, Lin Yuan allowed Claire's Plant-Controlled Spy Drone to approach quietly and capture footage of the Tenth District.
After thorough reconnaissance and with Claire's detailed descriptions in mind, Lin Yuan was shocked by what he discovered: this base was clearly a Breeding Base used by the Mutant Resistance to cultivate Clones. Some of the equipment inside appeared related to Cultivation Tanks.
This revelation stirred Lin Yuan's heart. Cultivation Tanks were part of the foundational tasks in s-5 Sub-base, which included missions to destroy the Resistance's Cultivation Tanks.
Pulling out his personal task list and locating Mission Log B, he found a mission regarding the destruction of Mutant Rebel Clone Cultivation Tanks glaring back at him.
The mission required him to find and destroy at least three Rebel Clone Cultivation Tanks. Upon completion, the rewards included a comprehensive score for the Sub-base, ten Merit Points, one hundred thousand Mechanical Coins, and ten thousand Mission Points.
The rewards for this mission made Lin Yuan drool; they were incredibly generous. If he completed this task, he could live worry-free for the next thirty Mechanical Years.
With such enticing rewards in sight—especially knowing that those Cultivation Tanks were so close—Lin Yuan could no longer remain calm. He decided to launch a strong attack.
According to Claire's speculation, the main defenses of this base should be concentrated on the side facing the coast. The area where Lin Yuan had been wandering was teeming with Mechanical Beasts, and with the formidable presence of the Mutated Fire Crow, there was no need for guards to be stationed there. Moreover, all entrances in this area were buried, making it theoretically impossible for anyone to infiltrate.
However, those high-ranking Mutants probably never anticipated that Lin Yuan would be brought here by the Mutated Fire Crow; it was a significant coincidence and opportunity!
All he had to do was swiftly eliminate the five Mutant Guards, input Claire's code to access the Gate, destroy the cultivation tanks inside, and then make a quick escape.
It was truly remarkable!
After preparing everything, when a new shift of Mutant Guards took over, Lin Yuan slowly transitioned into his Second Form. In an instant, he maximized the output of his Energy Engine and shot out like a bolt of lightning! His speed surged to its peak.
This tactic was undoubtedly a huge risk since Lin Yuan had never attempted to switch combat forms at such high speeds before. But he had no choice; he had to take the gamble. The moment he appeared, the five Mutant Guards would trigger an alarm, leaving him with even less time!
As Lin Yuan suspected, when he fully activated his Energy Engine, alarms blared from the helmets of the five Mutants, locking onto his position!
However, Lin Yuan's appearance was too swift. He burst forth as if supercharged by his Energy Engine; in that moment, his Second Form resembled a raging dragon, arriving in an instant.
The five Mutants reacted quickly, forming a battle formation while shouting for help and rapidly raising their Firestone Assault Rifles to unleash a barrage of gunfire!
But it was utterly futile; unless they used a Heavy Sniper Rifle firing Firestone High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Rounds, there was no way they could penetrate Lin Yuan's current Mechanical Body.
"Three... Two... One!"
Lin Yuan counted down in his mind, striving to remain calm while maintaining balance in his Mechanical Body. The thousand-meter distance was closed in under four seconds; at that moment, he was only one hundred meters away from the five Mutant Guards!
Then, his First Combat Form instantly transformed. Like an eerie magic trick, his Mechanical Body soared into the air under the Second Form and quickly dispersed before reassembling at terrifying speed. A brilliant flash of light from his blade stood out vividly!
It was truly fortunate for Lin Yuan that those five Mutants likely had never faced a Mechanical Warrior before—especially one like him. They didn’t dodge or perhaps couldn’t react in time because Lin Yuan’s charge was too fast. All they could do was roar in anger and desperately fire their Firestone ammunition!
This situation presented the perfect opportunity for Lin Yuan. He initially thought he would have to take a few hard falls, but instead, he charged straight in!
The Hunter's Longsword effortlessly claimed a head, and the immense force of his impact sent the other three flying. One managed to dodge, but by that time, Lin Yuan had already reverted to his First Combat Form, giving no chance for a counterattack. Like a shadow, he leaped after them, and with a swift strike, the Hunter's Longsword severed the dagger wielded by one of them. Then, he plunged into the chest of a Mutant with a powerful and decisive Knee Strike, creating a large gash in the armor on their abdomen, blood gushing forth.
Without even glancing back, Lin Yuan swung his sword again, sending another head flying!
At this moment, the three Mutants who had been knocked away finally regained their senses. They dropped their assault rifles and drew long knives, charging forward desperately. Their movements were surprisingly coordinated; this was to be expected since these Mutated Clones had undergone extensive combat training since birth!
"Is that all you've got?"
Seeing the blades of the three Mutants flashing before him, Lin Yuan couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. He activated his Mechanical Legs and leaped into the air. The Feathered Shield of his First Mechanical Arm quickly unfolded as he descended from above, crashing down against one of the Mutant Guards in a fierce clash.
Though these Mutated Clones possessed immense strength, Lin Yuan was no slouch either. Moreover, he wielded the incredibly sharp Hunter's Longsword. The power behind his aerial slash was unimaginable!
With a crisp snap, the long knife in the Mutant Guard's hand shattered. However, he was quick on his feet and ducked just in time to evade Lin Yuan's lethal strike!
But in the next moment, a series of explosive sounds erupted as Lin Yuan used Mighty Bull to pulverize the Mutant's head into bits. It was worth noting that he had four Mechanical Arms at his disposal.
This entire sequence of events had unfolded in just nine seconds. Even Lin Yuan himself was astonished; how much more so for the remaining two Mutated Clones? They were not fools; they had their own thoughts. Witnessing Lin Yuan’s thunderous methods to eliminate three of their comrades in an instant left them utterly shocked.
Yet Lin Yuan showed no signs of giving them an opportunity. With one hand holding the shield and the other wielding the Hunter's Longsword, he pressed forward while simultaneously switching to his Heavy Sniper Rifle with his Third Mechanical Arm. In an instant, both remaining Mutated Clones were taken down.
At that same moment, Claire had successfully cracked the code for the Gate amidst the chaos of battle. A new location beckoned to Lin Yuan.
Everything was going smoothly. In this Tenth District, located deep within enemy territory, entering through this Gate revealed three massive transparent tanks resembling Oil Tankers filled with unknown liquid. Warning lights flashed around them, yet no one was in sight.
“Beep! Earth Resistance Clones Cultivation Tank detected. Please destroy it and select to accept mission: eliminate Assassination Plan A.”
Without needing to worry about Lin Yuan searching for it, his Intelligent Brain Encyclopedia had already provided him with the most specific hint, making it clear that he had to accept this mission.
Then, without hesitation, Lin Yuan raised his Heavy Sniper Rifle and fired three shots in quick succession.
However, to his surprise, a faint glow suddenly emanated from the surface of the massive Cultivation Tank, deflecting the Firestone High-Explosive Armor-Piercing Round completely unharmed!
"Damn it!"
Lin Yuan cursed angrily. He knew that a mission with such a high reward wouldn't be this simple. What was he supposed to do now?
"Sir, this Cultivation Tank is equipped with an Energy Shield Generator. The Energy Shield inside is strong enough to withstand attacks from heavy particle cannons. Please initiate System infiltration and set it to self-destruct!"
At that moment, Claire reminded Lin Yuan. It turned out that Claire was a staunch anti-cloning activist. Even though Lin Yuan hadn't explained the specifics of the Energy Crisis outbreak to her, she still stood firmly on his side, filled with righteous indignation.
"System infiltration? Set to self-destruct?" Lin Yuan was momentarily taken aback. His Intelligence Level was high enough to infiltrate a System program without issue, as long as he made contact with the Mechanical Body. However, it seemed that his Intellect was only capable of destruction—how could he possibly set a self-destruct sequence as delicately as embroidery?
But there was no other choice at this moment. Lin Yuan could only treat a dead horse as if it were alive. He glanced around and then dashed toward what looked like a control port device. He began hacking away at it furiously before reaching in, allowing his Intellect to automatically and quickly lock onto the connection.
