"Angerona," that is the name of this star. It's quite strange, you know, in Mechanical City, aside from a few special star regions, many planets and stars are designated by numbers and serial letters, which seems rather cumbersome. Long ago, there was a planet whose name alone could stretch over three pages. This is said to be the ancient origin of the true nobility in Mechanical City. Therefore, often one can discern a person's identity and family honor just from their name. A name like Sir K150, for instance, would immediately signal to those in the know that it belongs to a fool.
At this moment, on a massive wing of the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter, Lin Yuan and Hal were sitting there, casually chatting. In the distance before them loomed a gigantic fireball—no, it was a star, a star far larger and more ferocious than the sun in Earth's Solar System.
Even though they were fifteen planetary units away—equivalent to 0 billion kilometers by Mechanical City standards—the temperature on the surface of their Mechanical Body still exceeded eight hundred degrees Celsius. Of course, just a short distance away on the northern side of the Mechanical Body, the temperature dropped to nearly freezing, truly creating a stark contrast between fire and ice.
Not to mention the fierce solar winds and cosmic rays; even enhanced individuals like Thomas and Fat Three would struggle in such an environment.
However, this kind of setting posed no significant problem for Lin Yuan and Hal.
Despite being dwarfed by the immense Angerona, which was beyond description, Lin Yuan and Hal—along with the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter known as Tyrannosaurus Rex—felt as insignificant as cosmic dust.
Inside the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter, Thomas and Fat Three had already entered the Life Pod crafted by Lin Yuan and had fallen into a state of slumber. Their bodies were incredibly robust; thus, even though Lin Yuan wasn't a professional craftsman, he could manage them for a while.
"Is there something wrong with this name? Angerona? It sounds somewhat feminine," Lin Yuan casually asked while his Auditory Radar continued to gaze at the distant fireball in the starry sky. Despite having lived two lives and weathered many storms, it was still his first time standing so openly in space, especially so close to such a massive star.
The scene was so spectacular that he found himself wondering if he and Hal—and this Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter—would also become part of this vast cosmos if they were standing on the surface of a planet at that moment.
"It is indeed inappropriate because this star is named after a carbon-based life form—oh yes, one from Thomas's hometown. You know, such things are simply impossible in Mechanical City. What’s even more astonishing is that this happened not long ago—about a thousand Mechanical Years ago," Hal remarked with deep emotion. However, his words left Lin Yuan with an odd feeling; after all, a thousand Mechanical Years hardly counted as 'not long ago.'
"Alright then, let's not dwell on events from a thousand Mechanical Years ago. How's your search for information on solar energy conversion coming along?" Lin Yuan asked calmly. He certainly wasn't in the mood for romantic stargazing with Hal on the wing; he simply wanted to harness solar energy to provide new power supplies for the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter.
After all, for them, the Centrifugal Stone Energy was far too precious. Not only did it need to be supplied to the Pterosaur H-, but all of their combat capabilities required energy as well. If they ran out of energy, they would truly become floating corpses in space.
This was also why Lin Yuan decisively halted the progress of the Pterosaur H-. Even though they were still unable to leave this massive star system, he preferred to use other energy sources to propel the Pterosaur H- forward rather than waste the precious Centrifugal Stone Energy. Otherwise, if they encountered a battle in space, at least they would have some fighting chance.
"Of course, my Intelligent Brain Encyclopedia was updated before leaving the g-715 Sub-base. It contains all the latest information you could want, including this solar energy utilization technology. However, this solar energy technology has long been outdated in Mechanical City because the energy produced by Centrifugal Stone Ore is superior, more stable, and easier to convert. Therefore, in Mechanical City, unless it’s for fixed installations that won’t change for hundreds or thousands of years, solar energy converters are rarely installed permanently."
"According to the analysis from the Intelligent Brain Encyclopedia, the most advanced solar energy converters are divided into nine categories based on different energy conversions. These include converting solar energy into thermal energy, magnetic energy, and electronic energy—most of which have already been phased out as they represent the lowest level of conversion. A slightly better option is direct conversion into atomic energy, which is uncommon but studied by some extreme enthusiasts. Another method is direct conversion into kinetic energy, which is quite prominent and approaches the quality of Centrifugal Stone Energy; however, the conversion process is overly complex and expensive. There’s also a method that converts directly into laser weaponry. The most outrageous conversion involves Dark Matter energy, but that remains vague and we probably can’t handle it. You can choose from these options," Hal said while transmitting the relevant data to Lin Yuan.
In no time at all, Lin Yuan had browsed through everything. However, he couldn’t help but smile wryly at the options Hal had gathered for him; each method was quite impressive with an energy utilization rate exceeding 90%. If such technology were brought back to Earth where he once lived, even the most basic thermal conversion would undoubtedly spark industrial changes.
But therein lay the problem: these technologies required highly precise machinery to implement. Other than the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter in his possession, Lin Yuan found himself empty-handed. How could he assemble anything? Should he dismantle the Pterosaur H- or Hal? Or even himself?
"Let’s go with thermal conversion."
After a long pause, Lin Yuan chose the option with the lowest difficulty; this was already his limit.
"Thermal energy? Captain, you can’t be serious! We’re in space!" Hal exclaimed incredulously.
"What do you suggest then? If you’re willing to contribute your Mechanical Body, I think I could upgrade to convert into electrical or atomic energy."
"Alright!" Hal replied helplessly. He understood very well what it meant to be a skilled cook without rice; previously on RZ Planet, they had dismantled all their spoils for final assembly—including Oak Shield and various weapons from Crow and others—even Crimson Fox's super-heavy Interstellar Sniper Rifle had been taken apart by Lin Yuan with a determined bite. Now they not only lacked essential energy but also various parts.
Lin Yuan could still have confidence in converting light energy into thermal energy, but at Hal's level, he couldn't do anything.
