Believe in memories, or believe in reality?
This was not originally a proposition, but now it had become a huge test that Lin Yuan had to face. If he chose to believe in memories, to believe in the existence of the Super Five-Dimensional Code, then at this moment, he should be in a virtual world. What he needed to do was to follow Claire's instructions and persist, as much as possible.
But the question was, what did it mean to persist? Should he just sit here and wait patiently? Lin Yuan believed that this was certainly not the case, because if he did so, he would wait until the end of time, until his energy was completely exhausted and he died.
Therefore, there must be something like a switch; only by activating such a switch could the code continue to operate, and he could return to that previous memory.
This was the result of his choice to believe in memories.
However, what if he chose reality? Then he would have to believe that his memories were flawed, that they were all fallacies. He should not think about the Super Five-Dimensional Code or the Supply Reserve Center; instead, he should focus on assembling the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter into its third form.
"The problem still lies with that so-called Supply Reserve Center. Whether the memory is real or the current reality is real, that Supply Reserve Center cannot be wrong; it must be opened."
After struggling for a long time, Lin Yuan finally realized this point. He immediately returned to the Supply Reserve Center. The place looked exactly like it did in his memory; a massive mark left by a Magic Impact still lingered on the hatch.
However, when Lin Yuan gently touched it with his Mechanical Arms as before, this hatch, which should have been very sturdy, slowly opened.
This left Lin Yuan astonished; he clearly remembered that in his memory, this hatch was extremely solid.
At this moment, as the hatch opened, a vast and empty space appeared in Lin Yuan's Auditory Radar. There was nothing inside. If there had been anything here before, it must have been cleared out by Hal and Bison during their search.
After all, how could Hal and Bison possibly overlook such a large Cabin?
Yes! Why would they overlook it?
How could they possibly ignore it?
This did not make sense. If judged from this perspective, the previous memory clearly had flaws.
This was reality!
Lin Yuan felt a slight sense of relief; he was not very good at playing such bizarre games.
But what was that memory about? How could it possibly appear out of nowhere?
This was yet another perplexing aspect. After some thought, Lin Yuan once again fully activated his Intellect. In that memory, it seemed he had awakened Claire using this very method.
In less than a minute, the sleeping Claire indeed woke up, but her first words left Lin Yuan stunned.
"Sir, how can you operate your Intellect at such a dangerous place? This could very well expose our location." Claire appeared exhausted and spoke anxiously, but Lin Yuan didn’t register her words at all; he was somewhat dazed. He could confirm that this was indeed Claire, so was this the true reality?
Before Lin Yuan's thoughts could return to normal, his Auditory Radar began to issue a warning. A black shadow appeared rapidly from dozens of kilometers away, resembling a bat in the night, moving incredibly fast and charging straight toward Lin Yuan's position!
"Beep! Imperial Unmanned Patrol Drone detected. You have been locked on. Please immediately lower your weapons and await inspection. Any act of resistance will result in immediate execution for threatening the security of the Empire!"
In an instant, an imposing message thundered through Lin Yuan's Intellect, bringing his chaotic thoughts back into focus. At the same time, he vaguely recalled something; in that memory of his, he had been operating his Intellect at high frequency for quite some time. How could he not have alerted such an Automated Patrol Drone?
Could that segment of memory truly be a bizarre dream?
Lin Yuan pondered silently, his Mechanical Body remaining still. According to his Auditory Radar scan, the level of that unmanned Automated Patrol Drone was exceptionally high; all its data were question marks, indicating that it was clearly beyond his capabilities.
However, this Battle Machine was indeed impressive—measuring only thirty-five meters in length, it resembled a hooked bat and flew gracefully through the air like a streak of black lightning.
On the side of the Battle Machine were inscribed the words 'Ninth Legion of the City of Machines.'
"You have been locked on. Please immediately shut down your Energy Engine. You will be prosecuted; any act of resistance will result in immediate execution! You have three seconds to comply: three... two..."
Before the countdown reached one, Lin Yuan decisively shut down his Energy Engine because he knew very well that if this was indeed reality, he stood no chance against this Automated Patrol Drone. Once locked on, there would be no time for him to retaliate with just his Hurricane Hammer and Falling Star.
After Lin Yuan chose to shut down his Energy Engine, the Automated Patrol Drone ceased its warnings and deftly flew into the massive Wreckage of the Starship. It positioned itself just a few meters away from Lin Yuan before a beam of orange-yellow light shot out from the Battle Machine, enveloping Lin Yuan's entire Mechanical Body and slowly moving him toward the cabin!
But just as Lin Yuan was about to be pulled into the cabin, an intense light suddenly erupted from his body. In that moment, he activated all six Energy Engines at maximum output and broke free from the grip of that orange-yellow light.
Then Lin Yuan quickly launched his Hurricane Hammer, unleashing a hurricane-like barrage that covered the head section of the Automated Patrol Drone. Following that were six explosive rounds from Falling Star that directly destroyed the Automated Patrol Drone!
Without hesitation, Lin Yuan immediately absorbed all the remaining energy from the Automated Patrol Drone before swiftly dismantling it. In just a moment, the drone lay in pieces around him.
After he destroyed the external communication Radar System of the Battle Machine, Lin Yuan finally let out a sigh of relief. For some reason, the memories in his mind began to fade, becoming increasingly like a dream that loses clarity upon waking, gradually diminishing until they vanished completely.
"How strange!" Lin Yuan remarked, shifting his focus entirely to the significant gains he had just made.
The remaining energy within this unmanned Automated Patrol Drone amounted to a staggering fifty thousand units, all at the e5 level standard. This was several times better than the f1 level Standard Energy. With this five thousand units of e5 level Standard Energy, they could easily return to Mechanical City, which was excellent news!
Moreover, the materials from this unmanned Automated Patrol Drone were largely intact and highly valuable.
The urgent task at hand was to repair the Pterosaur H- quickly, retrieve Hal and Bison, and search for enough precious Mechanical Parts on this Alien Battlefield before making a swift escape through the wormhole. As long as they returned to the Galactic System, the military of Mechanical City would have no evidence and would remain unaware of their existence.
With this haul, they would strike it rich, potentially earning hundreds of billions in Mechanical Coins. At that point, they would all rise above others and soar to great heights!
Lost in these delightful thoughts, Lin Yuan completely forgot about those discordant memories and quickly set to work repairing the Pterosaur H-. With ample energy now available, his repair speed was remarkably fast; after all, the damage to the Pterosaur H- had not been severe. Both the main engine and auxiliary engine were functioning normally.
Within less than twenty-four hours, the entire Pterosaur H- looked brand new.
“Wooden Child, we’re back! This time we’ve really struck it rich! We found over ten Low-Level Dark Magic Cores on the battlefield five hundred kilometers away. My goodness, it turns out this place is indeed a treasure trove! Our previous guesses were correct; that wormhole does have the ability to absorb energy and Dark Magic Cores.”
Just as Lin Yuan pondered how to locate Hal and Bison, their figures appeared on his Auditory Radar.
“It seems we all had our share of gains! I’ve completely repaired the Pterosaur H-. We can leave immediately,” Lin Yuan said joyfully, surprised at how smoothly everything had gone.
“Yes, now that we have sufficient energy, Captain, it’s not wise to linger here any longer. To avoid any unforeseen troubles during the night, let’s head back right away!” Hal added.
“Exactly! We can bring Thomas and Fat Three along; we need their combat strength. Now, anyone who dares obstruct our return will face our wrath!” Bison shouted arrogantly.
“Alright! Let’s head back immediately!”
Lin Yuan made his decision right away. However, just as he was about to step onto the Pterosaur H- Strike Fighter, he inexplicably turned back to glance at the depths of the Wreckage of the Starship.
“Wooden Child, what are you looking at? We need to leave here immediately,” Hal asked curiously.
“Nothing much,” Lin Yuan replied casually, but a strange sense of unease flashed through his mind.
“Sir, the onboard radar of the Pterosaur H-Strike Fighter has detected faint fluctuations in the distant area. It seems to be a patrol Battle Machine from Mechanical City. You need to make a decision right away; we must leave now, or it will be too late,” Claire's voice chimed in at that moment.
“No, no!” Lin Yuan's footsteps slowed down. He felt as if he had forgotten something very important, but what could it be? How could he forget anything? After all, he was a level 16 Intellect!
“Captain, we must leave immediately! If we delay any longer, we will truly be in grave danger!” Hal nearly shouted, filled with urgency.
“Calm down, calm down! Let me think; I need to remember! What is it? Claire, what did you want from me? What did you ask me to do?” The more anxious Lin Yuan became, the less he could recall.
“Sir, I’m telling you, we need to leave right now; otherwise, it will be too late.”
“No, no, that’s not it! Let me—let me think! What is it that I must—must do?” Lin Yuan was pacing back and forth in desperation. However, when his gaze swept once more across the depths of the Wreckage of the Starship, a thunderous flash of insight surged from deep within his soul.
“I remember now! You wanted me to—no matter what happens, I must hold on! I must hold on! But hold on to what?”
Lin Yuan murmured to himself, yet his mind began to clear. The memory he had almost forgotten finally resurfaced!
Yes, holding on meant just that—holding on and not forgetting this memory because this was the truth! (To be continued.)
