"Wait a moment, Claire, hold on!"
The instant Lin Yuan released Claire, a sudden jolt ran through him, and he forcefully called her back.
"Sir? Why?"
Claire was equally puzzled. This was the perfect moment to infiltrate; if they missed this opportunity, there might never be another chance. If those two Repair Mechanical Arms triggered an alarm, the consequences would be dire.
"Something's not right. We shouldn't act recklessly. Let's wait a bit longer! Unless absolutely necessary, we can't resort to virus control methods!"
Lin Yuan spoke calmly, as he suddenly realized that the situation might not be as dire as he had imagined.
As a fairly skilled Mechanical Assembler himself, he understood that various issues could arise during assembly and repair processes, each more bizarre than the last. Therefore, theoretically speaking, for these mechanical repair arms to achieve a perfect repair result, their Intelligence Level would need to be quite high. However, correspondingly, their operational Intellect wouldn't contain too much unnecessary information.
For instance, the Repair Space could be likened to a hospital on Earth, with these mechanical repair arms acting as doctors. Regardless of the complex issues they encountered, those fell within their scope of research and would never simply throw a patient into the security room for disposal; that would defy logic!
If Lin Yuan truly intended to rely on Claire to control these mechanical repair arms at this moment, it would mean infringing upon another domain—the entire Intellect's alarm System!
It was akin to someone stealing a sleeping pill in a hospital; while seemingly trivial, it was not something doctors were authorized to handle—it fell under the jurisdiction of the security office!
So why not take the risk?
Even though the Military's Intellect Control Center in Mechanical City was undoubtedly powerful and terrifying, no matter how formidable this central Intellect was, it had to adhere to a fundamental operational principle: maximum autonomy must be guaranteed between various unit projects. For example, Tactical Analysis could be linked with intelligence gathering but would never have any detailed connection with equipment maintenance. Similarly, logistical support details would find it difficult to relate to patrol and warning categories!
The larger the Intellect system, the more refined it became—almost rigorously so—because it wouldn’t waste even a bit of extra resources on complex and futile efforts. This was the most basic operational rule and aligned with fundamental logic. After all, the Ninth Legion's main base itself was an enormous entity; processing tasks every second likely exceeded billions or even hundreds of billions. If they attempted to manage everything collectively, it would be chaos!
Imagine a doctor performing a heart transplant when suddenly security rushes in claiming someone looks familiar—perhaps a wanted criminal—and decides to interrogate him first. Wouldn’t that cause chaos?
Similarly, a doctor wouldn’t abandon a patient mid-surgery just because their heart went missing and rush off to find security claiming they were an alien who needed apprehending.
In short, from any angle Lin Yuan looked at it, he could not afford to act impulsively at this moment.
Time passed slowly—three seconds felt like an eternity for Lin Yuan; he nearly reached the brink of anxiety.
Fortunately, judgment finally arrived. The Intelligent Brain System of the two mechanical repair arms clearly couldn’t handle this situation and quickly made a decisive determination!
One of the Repair Mechanical Arms wasted no time; it pulled out something resembling a scanner and swiftly brushed it across Lin Yuan's Mechanical Body surface, leaving behind an intricate identification code while simultaneously inputting a routine command into the Core Module.
As the routine command entered the Core Module, Claire immediately initiated a comprehensive interception and decryption, managing to resolve the issue before the command could take effect.
This was a command that would cause the Core Module to self-seal, halting the operation of Intellect and shutting down the Energy Engine.
Lin Yuan had yet to grasp what was happening when he saw the two mechanical repair arms swiftly spring into action again, dismantling all the Weapon Equipment and brand new Parts that had been installed for him.
Then, without knowing what commands they issued, a yellow Suction Cup quickly approached, attaching itself to Lin Yuan's Mechanical Body and rapidly moving toward an entirely opposite area.
"Claire, hurry and crack that identification code; it must be related to it," Lin Yuan urged, sensing that this perilous situation might soon end, though he was still uncertain about the outcome.
"Sir, I am urgently decrypting it. Please hold on. The successful decryption indicates an abandoned transfer and a reset of the identification code. Those two bastards are treating us as scrap!" Claire exclaimed in surprise.
"Scrap?"
Lin Yuan couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all, but at least this temporarily resolved their predicament. However, what did the reset of the identification code mean?
"Sir, we must take action. That reset of the identification code surely refers to a drone number reset. If our current identification code is reset, we will undoubtedly be treated as scrap and reprocessed. Then a brand new Black Bat-9 drone will join the Seventh Drone Squadron to replace us. So as long as we ensure our identification code isn't reset, no new drones will join the Seventh Drone Squadron!"
"Got it! I understand!"
Lin Yuan replied calmly. Just as he saw the Suction Cup pulling his Mechanical Body out of the entire maintenance workshop, his First Mechanical Arm shot out like lightning, grabbing a Mechanical Body whose component he couldn't identify.
At that moment, the Suction Cup had already entered a closed passage that resembled a waste processing plant.
However, Lin Yuan couldn't afford to think too much about it; he immediately began dismantling the area where his Mechanical Body was attached.
Fortunately, the Suction Cup was merely an ordinary magnetic gravity device without an Intelligent Brain System—just something akin to a transport vehicle—so it posed no danger.
Following that, Lin Yuan quickly installed the Mechanical Body he had previously acquired onto the position of the Suction Cup, effectively creating a decoy.
"Sir, we need to move faster because it seems like we're approaching the end," Claire's voice sounded urgent. At the same time, a massive Gate appeared in Lin Yuan's Auditory Radar!
This Gate was peculiar; at its forefront were nine laser recognition beams followed by a large hammer resembling a compressor that moved up and down.
Seeing this scene startled Lin Yuan; good grief! Those nine laser recognition beams were definitely used for detecting and resetting identification codes within a System. There might even be some filtering System connected to them. If he passed through, he would surely be exposed; even if not exposed, he would be crushed into pieces by that large hammer behind the Gate.
Fortunately, Lin Yuan's assembly skills were decent. Just before the Suction Cup reached those nine laser recognition beams' System, he successfully attached the decoy Mechanical Body onto the Suction Cup at the last moment while he himself leaped like lightning and adhered to the wall of that massive passageway.
"Sir, what should we do next?" Claire asked anxiously. In this unfamiliar environment, she had no information to analyze, rendering her analytical skills useless.
"I have no idea, but let's take it one step at a time," Lin Yuan replied with a wry smile. He then began to climb slowly upwards. Although his F-910 identification code was still valid, he could not pass through the Repair Space to return to the warehouse of the Seventh Drone Squadron. If he did, he would inevitably be inspected by the Repair Mechanical Arms, and the result of that inspection would be a failure. A failed inspection meant he would once again be rendered as scrap—what a vicious cycle!
What frustrated Lin Yuan even more was that during the previous disassembly, those two mechanical repair arms had nearly stripped away a third of his Third Combat Form's Mechanical Parts. Now, aside from a few sets of wing Systems, he felt as helpless as a plucked chicken—what a disaster!
However, there was a silver lining: this waste disposal channel was absolutely safe. There were no surveillance cameras, nor would any self-aware programs pass through here since the drones deemed as garbage had already been ordered to shut down their Intelligent Brain Systems.
As Lin Yuan racked his brain for solutions, he suddenly heard a rush of wind from above. He looked up just in time to see a Suction Cup descending with a slightly damaged Black Bat-9 drone attached to it. It seemed that this level of damage had already reached the standard for scrap. The military in this Mechanical City really knew how to flaunt their wealth!
"Hey? Perhaps this is a good opportunity for me!"
Lin Yuan felt a flicker of excitement at that moment. As the Suction Cup approached him, he leaped onto it and quickly began to dismantle the drone. It still had many useful Mechanical Parts that could help make up for his own losses.
This could be considered an environmentally friendly recycling effort.
Unfortunately, from the top maintenance workshop to the bottom destruction Gate, the entire journey of the Suction Cup lasted only about twenty seconds. In such a short time, Lin Yuan managed to salvage only a few Parts.
Still, he remained optimistic; after all, every little bit counts! (To be continued.)
