"Hello! Papaya, how are you—"
Just as Lin Yuan was on the verge of exploding with rage, the ugly Old Chet, who was all talk and no substance, suddenly spoke up, causing him to drop his jaw in disbelief. Although he didn’t actually have a jaw, that wasn’t important; what mattered was that Old Chet had somehow gained sentience!
However, at that moment, Lin Yuan had no intention of exchanging pleasantries with Old Chet. He roared in anger, turning to grab the old man's collar and shouted, "Damn it! It's you lot again! You selfish scoundrels who forget loyalty for profit, afraid of death and only knowing how to play your schemes! What more do you want? Is there anyone more shameless than you? You stir up trouble and then dump the burden on innocent people. When danger strikes, you abandon those who trusted you! This is what you lowlifes are! Trash, maggots! Let me ask you, your appearance here isn’t just a coincidence, right? Even if I hadn’t caused that little incident, you would have found another excuse to show up, wouldn’t you? Damn it, do you dare to track me? Dream on!"
Lin Yuan practically roared. He had no goodwill left for these strange trolls. On one hand, it was because they were being hunted by Mechanical City and the Punisher. On the other hand, it was due to Lord J selling them out without a word when faced with the threat of the Swarm, decisively kicking them out of the Troll Squad.
It was only due to sheer luck that Lin Yuan and his companions were still alive; otherwise, they would have long since turned into bug droppings!
So damn it, Lin Yuan felt no affection for their organization!
Yet Old Chet remained calm as he listened to Lin Yuan's tirade. He said nothing until Lin Yuan finally stopped. Then he replied coolly, "There are three points I need you to hear. First, I don’t know what you've been through. I certainly have no intention of plotting against you; second, I am not tracking you. Of course, I admit my presence here is not coincidental because I’ve been hiding here for nearly five hundred Mechanical Years. Do I look like someone who’s temporarily tracking you? Thirdly, may I ask what has happened to make you so agitated? It was only because of Old Chet being too ugly that he stayed with me and mentioned you. He said he has high hopes for you and if I had the chance to meet you, I should seek your guidance. As for other matters, unfortunately, I haven’t heard him mention anything else. This time, I genuinely want to make a deal with you. If you're still uneasy about this, we can act as if nothing happened and continue our transaction. How does that sound?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Yuan fell silent for a moment before releasing the old man's collar and turning away silently. He didn’t want any entanglements with these people right now. Although this Old Man spoke nicely, he wouldn’t believe that this encounter was merely coincidental. In fact, he even began to suspect Thomas. After all, if that old man had truly lived here for five hundred Mechanical Years, there was no way Thomas wouldn’t know about this strange old fellow.
Or perhaps Thomas himself was part of their mysterious organization and had simply been playing dumb all along!
"Mr. Papaya, don’t you really want to continue? You must understand that sometimes misunderstandings can become more real over time. I don’t wish to see that happen. Old Stocking highly recommended you to me; how can you ignore such kindness?" The old man spoke again, his gaze filled with chilling intensity.
"Are you threatening me, old man? If you want to give me an explanation, then tell me what exactly your organization does! Why is the Punisher hunting down the trolls?" Lin Yuan stopped in his tracks and asked in a low voice.
"Are you sure you want to know? Very well then; as you wish. To be honest, we are the rebels of Mechanical City. We are not the demons you imagine nor are we selfish individuals as some portray us. We are warriors united by a common belief—better dead than compromised! This is our faith; do you understand now?" The old man spoke slowly, but each word struck Lin Yuan like thunder!
“Kress! Have you captured Kress?”
In that brief moment, Lin Yuan felt a pain in his heart as if it were being sliced open, not out of sorrow for Kress, but from the agony of realizing that his two most trusted friends had finally betrayed him!
At that instant, he understood why Bison had chosen to stay behind in the projection of the Ninth Dimension, and why his words had been so vague and unclear.
It turned out that Bison was also part of the resistance, but he too wanted to struggle for a new opportunity!
Suddenly, the gates of the fortress swung open, and dozens of figures rushed in. Leading them was none other than Fat Three, who had always been known for his gluttony and foolishness. However, at this moment, his expression was serious, and his demeanor was calm; he was no longer the silly guy he once was.
In this moment, his strength was fully revealed, having reached the terrifying height of d6 level!
What a frightening level!
It turned out that the one who seemed the weakest and most foolish was actually the mastermind behind it all!
Lin Yuan's heart sank; it no longer rose nor brimmed with hope. If he had another chance to start over, he would choose to cast aside all human emotions and become completely cold within a shell of steel.
“You can resist or join us; beyond that, you have no other choice! By the way, let me introduce myself. I am the Deputy Commander of the 190th Branch of the Galactic Federation Resistance,” Fat Three declared with authority, his eyes shining fiercely with murderous intent.
“Thanks! My only request is to send a message to Stocking Captain. I will return this Hurricane Hammer in its original form, and I am willing to repay my debt with this Falling Star instead of the Assault Longsword. From now on, I owe him nothing!”
Lin Yuan said calmly, tossing away the two pieces of Blue Light Equipment without regret. Then he fell silent; he knew he could not escape!
This is truly a case of "The World Is Uncertain"! If he hadn't been so gullible towards Thomas and Fat Three, he wouldn't have ended up in such a predicament. Of course, it wasn't entirely his fault; who could have imagined that these two characters, who seemed like mere background figures in the Troll Squad, actually had such powerful connections behind the scenes?
Moreover, Lin Yuan now understood that Lord J's escape was undoubtedly at the behest of Fat Three. Only by doing so could he and Thomas be completely trusted by him!
Yet, he couldn't comprehend what value he possessed that warranted such an investment from them.
Could it be to trace Claire's whereabouts?
What a mess! (To be continued.)
