"Without sun or moon in the mountains, the monkey is the king..."
A few days later, just as Lin Yuan was cheerfully humming a tune while attempting to modify the design of his new generation Mechanical Body, the alarm system of the Mechanical House erupted with a violent warning.
"What the hell is happening? Has Hurricane Thunder already launched its most intense retaliation?"
Lin Yuan thought in surprise. Just as he was preparing to rush out, he suddenly noticed that Claire, who had been chattering and bouncing around in his Intellect, had vanished without a trace, as if she had seen a hawk and fled like a frightened hen. She hadn’t even given Lin Yuan a single warning.
What on earth was going on?
While he was still puzzled, Lin Yuan heard a piercing sound; the external communication channel of his Mechanical House was filled with an extremely shrill noise that penetrated deep into his soul, akin to torture, causing him to scream involuntarily.
When he finally regained his composure, he found a large, blood-red exclamation mark appearing on the calculation platform before him, completely obliterating all the data models he had constructed!
This... this was actually a hacker attack!
Although Lin Yuan wasn't particularly bright, under Claire's influence, he understood what was happening. The intruder had breached the external channel of the Mechanical House without any obstruction, breaking through all his defenses in less than three seconds and utterly destroying all his achievements! It even posed a threat to his very existence!
Claire was so frightened that she had hidden away!
At that moment, Lin Yuan could no longer care about the ungrateful Claire; all he felt was rage and terror!
However, what he didn’t expect was that the anticipated brutal attack did not come. Instead, after that blood-red exclamation mark, a voice as cold as ice and reminiscent of death echoed from within!
"I give you thirty seconds. If you do not appear in my classroom within thirty seconds, I guarantee you will die a miserable death!"
Lin Yuan was momentarily stunned, for the voice he heard belonged to none other than Snow Wind, the instructor responsible for the Tactical Analysis Subject and History of Cosmic Life Development.
This was truly unbelievable; he had completely forgotten that he was in the Training Base. Over the past six months, he had missed the initial courses and, due to Snow Wind's punishment, received negative feedback from all instructors of the Ten Subjects. However, he had some excuses for that.
But now, it was clear that the dreaded Year-End Exam had concluded. With the new year beginning, he was expected to attend classes without any hidden rules applying to him. Yet here he was, hiding in the Mechanical House and enjoying himself—this was just too ridiculous!
With this thought in mind, Lin Yuan disregarded everything else and dashed out of the Mechanical House, heading straight for the Transport Platform. He chose to teleport to the Mechanical Hall. During this process, he also briefly processed some accumulated external information from the past few days. Undoubtedly, most of it consisted of threats and insults from Target Students at the Ninth Training Base. As the first deserter, it was impossible for him not to be infamous this time.
In addition, there were overall notifications regarding the Year-End Exam. Unsurprisingly, it had ended three days ago; even those E7-level Target Students hadn’t lasted two days and had suffered a complete defeat.
The total number of Target Students who successfully 'survived' was less than fifteen hundred; others had returned after dying and dropping a level.
This marked the most severe failure that the Ninth Training Base had endured in over a thousand years.
Of course, Lin Yuan didn’t care about any of that. What truly piqued his curiosity was that he was now an E-Class Student. Logically, he should have no further interactions with instructors like Bull Instructor, who looked down on him. So why was Snow Wind still present?
With this question in mind, Lin Yuan's figure appeared in the Mechanical Hall. However, as soon as he arrived, he couldn't help but freeze in surprise. The Mechanical Hall had transformed once again; over three hundred and fifty calculation platforms were set up here, each occupied by an E-Class Student. Their serious demeanor indicated just how intimidating the figure on the enormous Virtual Screen ahead must be.
To be honest, this was Lin Yuan's first real encounter with Snow Wind and his first time attending such a Tactical Analysis class, so he felt quite curious.
On the screen, Snow Wind's image appeared as an ordinary Mechanical Warrior. Of course, this was merely an image; as a data lifeform, she could take on any form at any time.
Yet, this very image seemed to carry a powerful penetrating force that made Lin Yuan feel an extreme sense of danger!
Fortunately, the thunderous wrath that Lin Yuan feared did not materialize. The Snow Wind Instructor on the screen continued to speak at a leisurely pace, seemingly oblivious to his presence.
Thus, Lin Yuan quickly jumped into the only available seat and began to listen to the lecture with a strange sense of unease. He found himself completely unable to comprehend what was being discussed. The chaotic formulas and esoteric terminology felt like reading a book in an unfamiliar language. Even more terrifying was the realization that upon arriving here, his Intelligent Brain Encyclopedia had completely shut down, and even some of the computational abilities within his Intellect had been disabled, leaving him with nothing but instinct.
The Snow Wind Instructor was quite talkative, rattling off information without pause. Every word was crystal clear, delivered at a speed of 180 words per minute. Every so often, he would display an incredibly complex diagram, transitioning from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, from spatial concepts to temporal ones, as if all the knowledge of the universe was erupting forth.
This was bizarre; the only thing Lin Yuan could do was activate the memory replication function of his Intellect. But even when he dissected and analyzed it, he still had no idea what any of it meant.
This process lasted for a full two hours. Thankfully, Lin Yuan was in a Mechanical Body; had he been in a human form, he would have gone completely insane.
Finally, the Snow Wind Instructor's lecture concluded after what felt like an eternity of 180 words per second. The three seconds of silence that followed felt like a breath of fresh air after drowning—so relaxing that Lin Yuan could hardly believe it. Then he heard the Snow Wind Instructor's emotionless voice continue.
"Very well, we have covered the 10.8 billion logical and unstable variations regarding Repositioning Default. If anyone does not understand, you will have three opportunities to ask me questions within three days. This month's Monthly Assessment will focus on Repositioning Default, so I hope everyone takes it seriously. Those who fail will be directly demoted back to Level E1. Now, let us proceed with the most basic exercise regarding Repositioning Default. There are only 360,000 variations in total. I need two Target Students to demonstrate for us: Number J-704 and— you!"
At that moment, Lin Yuan felt as though all the blood in his body had turned to ice. Although his Mechanical Body did not contain blood, the sensation was terrifying because the person Snow Wind pointed at was none other than himself!
This was truly unbelievable!
However, he could neither resist nor dare to oppose it. If Earthling teachers wielded nothing more than chalk as their weapon, then this Snow Wind Instructor held weapons of mass destruction!
Meanwhile, Number J-704 appeared quite confident and even waved at Lin Yuan with interest.
At that moment, it was unclear how it worked, but the calculation platforms in front of Lin Yuan and j-704 suddenly transformed, conjuring a scene from outer space, which appeared simultaneously on the other participants' platforms.
"Now, you two will each command a Starship. Each of you can deploy three Starships, one Interstellar Main Cannon, zero Battle Machines, named Mechanical Warrior, and zero drones. The distance between both sides is one million kilometers, and both of your Radar Systems are identical. You have one hour to use the Repositioning Default's Tactical Analysis to defeat your opponent. Now, enter the countdown to battle! Three, two, one, start!"
As soon as Snow Wind finished speaking, j-704 began to operate the calculation platform with incredible speed and skill. Even from a distance, Lin Yuan could sense the impressive and graceful manner in which he input various complex commands.
Lin Yuan, on the other hand, was bewildered because he had no idea what to do. He couldn't just issue an all-out attack command; it seemed that was all he knew how to do.
"Claire? Claire! Help me!"
Lin Yuan could only shout in his Intellect; this was the only method he could think of. However, in the next moment, a voice that nearly drove him to despair echoed in his Intellect.
"Who is Claire?"
"Uh... she's not anyone. It's just a nickname I gave my subconscious because whenever I encounter difficulties, I call out like that..." Lin Yuan quickly improvised. Now he finally understood why Claire had fled so cowardly before; Snow Wind was terrifyingly powerful and had silently appeared in his Intellect. If she wanted to, she could crush him into dust at any moment!
"Is that so? Subconscious? Your subconscious is quite interesting. Claire sounds like a girl's name. Do you have a preference for females?" Snow Wind's voice carried a teasing tone, causing Lin Yuan to break out in a cold sweat.
"It's obvious you're lying, right? I carefully reviewed your performance in the Year-End Assessment; you did exceptionally well. Whether it was arranging artillery positions or calculating that the opponent would execute a Tactical Jump at the end, it clearly indicates your Tactical Analysis level is at least level 18 or higher. How could you struggle with Repositioning Default when it's merely an entry-level challenge for Tactical Analysis at level 10? What’s the truth? Who exactly is this Claire of yours?"
