The crowd emerged from the hall, and Shang Qiong immediately looked at Luo Mengqi with disdain. "Isn't someone capable of wielding Sima Chuan's sword? Don't let us down."
"Haha, that's funny. I have a sword too, but I wonder if you can handle it," Luo Mengqi shot back.
"I find you amusing. How could I not be able to handle a mere sword?"
"Are you sure you want to try my sword?" Luo Mengqi countered.
Sima Chuan seemed to recall something and was about to speak when Shang Qiong interrupted. "Stop wasting time, just bring out your pathetic sword."
"Pathetic sword?" Luo Mengqi scoffed, producing a sword in her hand and throwing it directly at Shang Qiong. Shang Qiong reached out to catch it, but as soon as her hand touched the sword, she felt it was hot and surprisingly heavy, much like Sima Chuan's Mystic Sword.
Then came a loud clang as the sword fell to the ground, cracking the stone tiles in the courtyard. The onlookers were stunned. What was happening? Was Shang Qiong unable to catch a sword? Or was it simply too heavy for her, causing cracks on the ground?
Luo Mengqi didn't even glance at Shang Qiong as she coldly remarked, "You can't even catch a sword, yet you want to wield mine? That's utterly ridiculous."
"You..." Shang Qiong was so furious she couldn't respond; she had no way to retort. "I challenge you to a duel." With that, she assumed a fighting stance.
As for Shang Qiong's challenge, Luo Mengqi completely ignored it, grinning at Sima Chuan and occasionally winking at him. Sima Chuan found himself speechless at her expression. Was wanting a sword really worth looking at him like that? He thought for a moment before tossing his sword to Luo Mengqi. Shang Qiong temporarily forgot her earlier challenge and wanted to see Luo Mengqi embarrass herself like she had just done. However, she was disappointed when Luo Mengqi caught the sword effortlessly. Liu Chuan and the others were also surprised; wasn't Sima Chuan's sword supposed to be heavy? How could it seem so light in her hands? Did Sima Chuan have two swords?
Sima Chuan observed their expressions, unsure of what to say. In truth, he had thought earlier, "I feel like she can handle my sword." Although it was just a feeling, he believed his instincts were usually accurate.
Before long, Sima Chuan's sword trembled slightly, followed by an overwhelming chill radiating outward. Liu Chuan and the others didn't understand why Sima Chuan's Mystic Sword exhibited such phenomena in Luo Mengqi's hands but instinctively wrapped their clothes tighter around themselves. Meanwhile, Sima Chuan felt an incredibly familiar aura emanating from the sword—warm and comforting, like family. Luo Mengqi had anticipated this situation; she enveloped the Mystic Sword with her own power. In no time, their energies merged together. Then, Luo Mengqi began performing an ancient sword technique.
"How is this possible? Why can she wield that sword so beautifully?" Shang Qiong could hardly believe it. Why could she do this when they were both girls? What did this mean? Was everything about her real?
Liu Chuan and the others exchanged sympathetic glances with Shang Qiong while playfully speculating about how the situation would unfold next.
"What's going on? Did someone just pick up Sima Chuan's sword? Is that his 'girlfriend'?" Luo Mengqi teased, beckoning Shang Qiong with her finger.
"Did I?" Shang Qiong immediately retorted.
"Hmph, if Sima Chuan hadn't lost his memory, would someone have taken advantage of that?"
"What do you mean?" Shang Qiong pointed at Luo Mengqi.
"Nothing much."
Shang Qiong was about to argue further when a burst of laughter suddenly came from the entrance. Hearing the laughter made Shang Qiong furious, and she rushed over to see what was happening, followed by a few others. As they approached the entrance, Liu Chuan and the others were astonished and exclaimed in unison, "Sima Chuan?"
The man who had just entered looked exactly like Sima Chuan. Liu Chuan and the others were curious if he was Sima Chuan's twin brother because they looked so alike that it would be impossible to tell them apart if they stood together. While everyone was intrigued, Sima Chuan furrowed his brow, sensing a hint of danger from the newcomer, albeit faint. Upon seeing the stranger, Luo Mengqi instinctively shielded Sima Chuan behind her and shouted to Liu Chuan and the others, "Step back! He's dangerous." She then turned to the newcomer and demanded, "Lai Liqing, what are you doing here?"
At that moment, everyone understood that this person who looked like Sima Chuan was not on good terms with him.
Lai Liqing sneered, "I'm just here to catch up with Sima Chuan. No need to be so tense." He then looked at Sima Chuan and continued, "Sima Chuan, I didn't expect you to be hiding behind your wife so soon. I didn't realize you had become so pathetic."
"What did you say? Say it again if you dare!" Luo Mengqi shouted at Lai Liqing, ready to transform at any moment as an intimidating aura radiated from her.
Lai Liqing remained unfazed; even Dark Qiong and Ouyang Qi beside him showed a hint of disdain. Sima Chuan extended his hand, pushing Luo Mengqi behind him. He calmly addressed Lai Liqing, "I don't know who you are, but I assume you're here for me? I can sense the energy within you—it's strong. He is not your match, so if you're going to fight, let them leave first."
Upon hearing Sima Chuan's words, Lai Liqing wanted to laugh but maintained his indifferent and condescending demeanor. "Sima Chuan, I didn't expect that after everything you've been through, your temperament has changed a bit. But one thing will never change: your identity as a weakling. You need to see the current situation clearly—just like when you fell off that cliff. I am a part of you that has separated from your body, but my mission is to erase you from this world. After that, I will take over everything that belongs to you."
Just as Lai Liqing was about to continue, everyone began to feel the ground beneath them tremble.
"What’s going on? What happened?"
"Could it be an earthquake?"
"Quick, go check elsewhere."
Sima Chuan and Luo Mengqi looked around warily, while Lai Liqing and the others seemed indifferent, as if they were watching a show.
The tremors intensified, and a yellow Mechanical Warrior sprang up from the ground behind them. It flipped in the air, transforming back into a human before landing steadily in front of Sima Chuan.
Wei Mingjie grinned at Sima Chuan, "You really don’t have enough consideration for me, do you? How can there be a fight without me? Wait, no, we’re Mechanical Warriors; it’s combat, combat! Hehe..."
Luo Mengqi thought of the last time when the yellow Mechanical Warrior had fled and pushed him away. "What are you doing here again? Are you trying to harm Sima Chuan once more?"
"Hey, big sister, don’t be like that. Last time I was just fulfilling my mission; I had no choice."
"Then let me do something first; I’ll explain later." Wei Mingjie stretched out his right hand and quickly slapped Sima Chuan on the head, a faint yellow light radiating from his palm.
"Let go." Luo Mengqi tried to stop Wei Mingjie’s action, but an incredibly strong defense surrounded Sima Chuan and Wei Mingjie. She could only watch but not intervene. An invisible force sent Luo Mengqi stumbling back.
Everyone speculated about what Wei Mingjie was doing, but no one could guess accurately. At first, Sima Chuan resisted Wei Mingjie’s action, but he felt his entire body immobilized as a strange force surged toward his head. Memories flashed through Sima Chuan's mind one by one, connecting together like scenes from a video tape. His gaze gradually became sharper and more resolute.
Lai Liqing sensed a surge of energy rapidly gathering within Sima Chuan. Realizing something was wrong, he shouted "Not good!" and concentrated all his strength into his hands, forming a dark blue sphere that he hurled at Wei Mingjie. Luo Mengqi rushed over to block it, but the dark blue sphere shattered the powerful defense. Wei Mingjie was slammed against the wall of the courtyard before falling to the ground. He spat out a mouthful of blood, sending chills through everyone present. Lai Liqing laughed coldly as his body began to emit a dark blue glow; the temperature around them dropped suddenly. However, no one noticed the faint smile at the corner of Wei Mingjie's mouth.
Wei Mingjie was injured, yet Sima Chuan remained in place. He gently lifted his head, smiling slightly as he looked at Lai Liqing across from him. "Lai Liqing, not bad, your strength has increased. I wonder what the outcome would be if we fought again?"
"Hmph, Sima Chuan, what does it matter if you've recovered? You're still just as weak. But I'm not here to toy with you today; I'm here to challenge you." Lai Liqing felt a surge of anger; his strength was something that both he and Sima Chuan could hardly withstand, yet Wei Mingjie had managed to block it.
"A challenge? Where and when?" Liu Feng appeared quite excited. To him, the fight between these two would surely be spectacular.
Lai Liqing cast a disdainful glance at Liu Feng before coldly looking back at Sima Chuan. "I heard from Ouyang Qi that it's the New Year, a time for fun and festivities. So I won't disturb your enjoyment. I'll be waiting for you at the city gate on the ninth day." With that, he turned and walked toward the exit.
"Wait."
"Sima Chuan, are you afraid?" Lai Liqing said nothing, while Ouyang Qi looked at Sima Chuan with a teasing smile.
"Right? If you're scared, just admit defeat early!" Dark Qiong chimed in excitedly.
"I just think that fighting at the city gate might hurt the people here. So when you wait for me at the gate, let's choose another location to settle this."
Lai Liqing replied decisively, "Alright, I agree." As he reached the gate, he added, "Enjoy the remaining days well."
