"Hey, Brother Chen, it seems like that fellow over there has a bit of a grudge against you," one of the guys with an Afro said casually while chewing gum, glancing at Chen Kai. He was still concerned about this Sponsor, especially with the current situation being so uncertain, but his eyes kept darting toward Nobunaga Hideyoshi.
"Heh, that fellow humiliated me multiple times last time because he had someone backing him up," Chen Kai replied, his gaze toward Yang Xiaoyou cold and piercing. Having stumbled twice at the hands of the other, he found it hard to swallow his pride.
Originally, he had intended to use Sun Jun to deal with him at school, but recent issues within Sun Junjia made that impossible. Thinking about it made Chen Kai feel a bit regretful; he and Sun Jun had gotten along quite well. He wondered how things would turn out for him in the future.
"Brothers, you heard that? Brother Chen is being so generous to us. Shouldn't we show our appreciation?" The leading Afro guy whistled and said, though his eyes remained fixed on Nobunaga Hideyoshi.
Seeing this group of fools in front of him, Yang Xiaoyou was too exasperated to even retort. He raised his hand and called out to a nearby police officer who had come over due to an investigation. "Officer, these people are harassing us! They are from Yongxing Entertainment City!"
Initially, the officer approached slowly, but upon hearing Yang Xiaoyou's last words, his expression changed dramatically. He instinctively reached for his gun and shouted, "You all stay still! Put your hands on your heads and squat down on the ground. If you make any sudden moves, I have the authority to shoot!"
The recent incident had left the police overwhelmed; most of Yongxing's core members were already detained. Despite multiple rounds of questioning yielding no useful information, they had no idea how many ordinary peripheral members were still out there.
Hearing such words suddenly made the officer react instinctively.
The few fellows who were still eager to fight froze upon hearing the officer's command. Accustomed to their wild ways, they momentarily forgot their surroundings and the changes happening around them.
They also didn't expect that the police would suddenly take an interest in them.
Struggling to glance at the officer as he unlatched his gun's safety, those surrounding Chen Kai obediently covered their heads and squatted down.
"You! Don't look away! Yes, you! Hands on your head and squat down!" The officer pointed sternly at Chen Kai.
Looking around in confusion and finally realizing he was being addressed, Chen Kai was taken aback. He stammered an explanation, "Sir, it's a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding!"
Before he could finish, the officer stepped forward and struck him hard on the neck with his gun hand, knocking him down before pulling out handcuffs to restrain him.
Given the case's significance, higher-ups had granted extensive authority to handle it. Officers were permitted to shoot at suspects' legs or limbs if they resisted and even allowed to use lethal force if threatened.
After seeing Chen Kai take a heavy hit, Yang Xiaoyou felt a twinge of pain for him. He hadn't expected the police to react so strongly this time. It seemed that the recent issues in Z City had put considerable pressure on some government officials.
"Student, are you sure they are from Yongxing Entertainment City?" The police officer, while calling for backup and cuffing the suspects, turned to Yang Xiaoyou. They were apprehending people without fully understanding the situation, which indicated just how tense they were. If Yang Xiaoyou didn't provide a clear explanation, he might get caught up in it as well.
During certain critical times, violent enforcement was often tacitly accepted.
"They've arrested me before; I can assure you of that. I even filed a report about it back then, so it can be verified," Yang Xiaoyou replied without any hint of pressure.
Upon hearing this, the officer nodded slowly, recording Yang Xiaoyou's name and identification without taking him along. Meanwhile, the already unconscious Chen Kai and the other thugs were loaded into a police car and taken away.
Once everything settled down, Qi Menglu approached with Feng Lin, looking at Yang Xiaoyou with a curious expression.
"The reaction speed is indeed impressive. I had heard that the public safety in the Chinese Empire was relatively good, but I never expected to encounter such a situation myself," Nobunaga Hideyoshi remarked with a light chuckle.
Yang Xiaoyou managed a dry laugh in response, but soon his eyes flickered with thought. Could that strange feeling he had just experienced be due to Chen Kai's covert observation? It didn't seem likely.
"Am I going along too?" Yang Xiaoyou asked, pointing at himself while looking at Nobunaga Hideyoshi.
"Yes, witnessing such scenes will be beneficial for you. You may have to face similar situations alone in the future, and our company is currently short-staffed in this aspect," Nobunaga Hideyoshi replied without hesitation, adjusting his appearance in the mirror afterward.
After accompanying Qi Menglu and the others for a while, Nobunaga Hideyoshi planned to head to Cheng Da Building to finalize some contracts. Knowing that Yang Xiaoyou had no classes at the moment, he intended to bring him along as well.
Hearing this made Yang Xiaoyou feel as if fate had turned full circle. After capturing Nobunaga Hideyoshi as if he were a strong ally, he ended up being pulled into reality by this very person. It left him both amused and exasperated.
Fortunately, Nobunaga Hideyoshi seemed aware of his priorities; for now, Yang Xiaoyou was still focused on foundational studies and it appeared there were no immediate plans to whisk him off to Europe. This thought relieved him; otherwise, such a mix-up would have been maddening.
Arriving at Cheng Da Building, they were greeted by an Etiquette Sister who had arrived early to guide them inside. Once they entered the elevator, she pressed the button for the eighteenth floor.
As the elevator ascended, occasional vibrations created an unsettling atmosphere.
"The Vice Chairman and the young master who inherited the Chairman's shares are already waiting for you in the conference room, please." After the elevator doors opened again, the Etiquette Sister gestured for them to enter.
Outside the elevator, the corridor felt unusually quiet, almost excessively so. There wasn't a single person in sight as they walked down the hall. Although it was daytime, the lighting was poor, leaving the middle of the corridor dimly lit. The surrounding silence added an eerie quality to the atmosphere.
As they stepped out of the elevator and into the empty, lifeless corridor, Yang Xiaoyou and Nobunaga Hideyoshi both frowned simultaneously.
This floor seemed a bit too quiet.
"Are you all usually this quiet?" Nobunaga Hideyoshi asked slowly, his delicate brows furrowed.
"It's strange; I find it odd too. Perhaps everyone has gone to the conference room to wait for you two. They have been quite focused on this acquisition," the Elegant Receptionist replied, appearing somewhat puzzled but soon finding a suitable explanation.
However, upon hearing her response, Nobunaga Hideyoshi and Yang Xiaoyou quickly made their way toward the stairwell on the side, not even bothering to wait for the elevator.
When they reached the stairwell marked with a fire escape sign and pushed against the door, they heard a sound from behind it that indicated it was completely blocked. Yang Xiaoyou and Nobunaga Hideyoshi exchanged glances.
"What are you two doing?" The Welcoming staff member looked at their actions with confusion. Just as she spoke, the elevator doors began to close automatically. Once they shut, the numbers displayed above dimmed completely, as if there had been a power outage in the elevator.
