Chapter 106: Swift
Ignoring Huang Wei's expression of disbelief, Yang Xiaoyou silently approached him and stepped on his foot. Seeing that the fellow still covered his mouth and didn't scream, he twisted his heel slightly.
"Ow!"
Although Huang Wei quickly covered his mouth again, that pig-like cry still managed to escape briefly.
The Licker hovering above their heads seemed to be a precision-guided weapon, instantly locking onto their location.
On the vertical wall, it moved with incredible speed, as if traversing flat ground, heading straight for them.
Its sharp and powerful claws left terrifying scratch marks on the wall, sending stone dust flying.
Meanwhile, three other Lickers in the distance were also leaping between the external air conditioning units and the walls, rapidly approaching.
Huang Wei, who had been stepped on by Yang Xiaoyou but remained silent, realized he was targeted and began to run for his life.
Seeing his instinctive flight response, Yang Xiaoyou gave a thumbs-up to his back; this fellow truly lived up to his expectations.
Estimating Huang Wei's direction of escape, Yang Xiaoyou flicked his wrist and instantly drew out a Blade, fixing it against a metal staircase at a back door.
Just before the Licker could attack Huang Wei, he crossed his hands. A glimmer of silver sharp Silk Thread flashed in the moonlight as it naturally crossed over the creature's neck.
After penetrating through, the Licker continued moving for a moment due to inertia before crashing down onto the ground and rolling towards Huang Wei.
During its roll, its head completely separated from its body, blood splattering everywhere. The headless corpse ultimately lay quietly in front of Huang Wei.
This sudden shock caused Huang Wei, teetering on the brink of life and death, to collapse onto the ground in weakness.
However, Yang Xiaoyou had no time to comfort him; three more Lickers were already closing in at high speed.
With the current team facing four Lickers at once, even if they managed to win, it would be a pyrrhic victory, and most survivors would likely end up infected.
They had to exploit the timing. Although Yang Xiaoyou had just taken down the first Licker decisively, it had taken all of her strength. The remaining three were too close together, making it difficult to achieve a similar effect.
Especially after launching an attack, her position was inevitably exposed to their senses.
However, being exposed had its advantages.
With a baseball bat in hand, she leaped onto the metal stairs at the back door of a nearby building. Yang Xiaoyou began to move around using the surrounding air conditioning units and other extensions as cover, creating noise to draw the attention of the three Lickers in front of her.
Meanwhile, Charming Shadow, who had remained motionless below, took action just as Yang Xiaoyou reached above her. She launched an Azure Glass Bottle towards the Lickers that were being lured closer by Yang Xiaoyou.
As it approached them, the container exploded slightly, releasing a blue sticky liquid that adhered to the three Lickers.
What initially burst forth as a liquid quickly solidified upon contact, resembling a jelly-like substance. Although it appeared soft, the three Lickers found themselves unable to break free from this resilient 'jelly' due to their combined strength.
Temporarily restricted at close range, their speed and agility were hindered as they collided with one another and slid downwards rapidly.
Despite the tenacious 'jelly' producing a series of cracking sounds under their frenzied force, threatening to break apart at any moment, it was more than enough for Yang Xiaoyou, who had already reached them.
As one of the Lickers turned its head and opened its mouth to unleash its deadly tongue, Yang Xiaoyou swung her metal baseball bat through the air with a sharp whistle aimed directly at its mouth.
Taking advantage of the moment when its mouth was wide open, she thrust the thick end of the bat deep inside.
A powerful penetrating force transferred from Yang Xiaoyou's hands through the bat and directly into the Licker's brain.
She accurately targeted the critical point that had shrunk to less than ten percent of its original size and delivered a decisive blow that shattered it into fragments!
At first glance, the head of the Licker seemed to swell like an inflated balloon before it suddenly collapsed.
A single strike was all it took!
While Yang Xiaoyou was dealing with one of them, the other two finally broke free from the sticky 'jelly' and swung their powerful front claws toward him.
The frenzied beast-like attacks, although monotonous, were incredibly direct.
Having just exerted himself to kill one, Yang Xiaoyou was still in a state of exhaustion, facing simultaneous attacks from both creatures. His eyes instantly turned blood-red like rubies.
In that moment, the speed of the two attacks approaching him seemed to slow down tenfold in his eyes. The claw marks and even the distorted air created by their sharp tips became vividly clear to him. He could see every skin bump on the palms of their claws.
The trajectory of the attacks was perfectly determined.
As his Cognitive Acceleration kicked in, Yang Xiaoyou simultaneously released the constraints on his legs and waist. A surge of new strength forced him to loosen his grip on the baseball bat as he twisted and flipped in mid-air.
The Licker's attack grazed his clothing, leaving several narrow slashes, but that was all; neither of the Licker's assaults caused any substantial harm.
In fact, during his aerial maneuvering, Yang Xiaoyou managed to sever one of the creature's arms with his Blade line, causing it to fall to the ground.
Having accomplished all this, Yang Xiaoyou struggled to regain his balance but needed a moment to recover from the Limit Release he had just performed.
During this surplus of lactic acid buildup, his defensive capabilities were at their weakest.
Fortunately, at that moment, a metal lid from a trash can came flying from the direction of Charming Shadow, aimed straight at the intact Licker's head.
Faced with this attack, the targeted Licker instinctively raised its hand to swat the lid away. However, just as it deflected the lid, Charming Shadow leaped into action.
She executed a backflip with her head pointed downward and as she soared over the Licker's head, her dagger plunged forcefully into its skull.
However, Charming Shadow had never faced a Licker before. Although she learned from Yang Xiaoyou that its head's critical point was not large, she did not expect that after her dagger fully pierced in, it did not kill it outright.
The severely injured Licker swung its remaining arm and struck her shoulder, causing her to spin in the air and fall to the ground.
Even though this attack was weak due to its own injuries and did not leave any claw marks on her back, it aggravated her previous wounds, leaving her unable to stand up for a moment.
Fortunately, her dagger had completely embedded itself in the Licker's head. While it wasn't a fatal blow, it left the creature gasping for breath on the ground.
The other Licker, missing an arm, showed no concern for its injuries as it lunged toward Yang Xiaoyou.
At that moment, however, Yang Xiaoyou's body seemed to transform into black flames and vanished in that direction. The Licker was momentarily confused about where to attack.
Just as it hesitated, Yang Xiaoyou reappeared beside its severed arm. With a flash of silver light in her hand, she swiftly sliced through its neck. Blood sprayed from the wound as its spinal cord was completely severed.
After taking two steps forward and making one last struggle, the Licker collapsed to the ground, twitching occasionally.
Having completed all this, Yang Xiaoyou felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. Although it was brief, she had been under extreme stress for an extended period, leading to significant consumption of her energy. If it weren't for the uniqueness of her abilities...
