Chapter 125: The Trouble of Following
"You guys really teamed up with them, huh? Ah, this deal is ruined, and William is going to lose money too. You should compensate me," Fia said, squatting beside Yang Xiaoyou and glancing at Shinoda Kenichi, who was discussing something with Nobunaga Hideyoshi. She was feeling quite displeased.
She had made arrangements early on, planning to support the Inagawa-kai in their counterattack while taking advantage of Fifth Generation's critical condition to make a fortune. Unfortunately, this incident occurred, and when she escaped, the leaders of the Inagawa-kai were all captured.
Although the payment for the goods had already been settled in advance, overall, she hadn't suffered a loss. However, for this princess who had put in effort without achieving her expected goals, her dissatisfaction was considerable.
Faced with this constantly complaining troublemaker, Yang Xiaoyou chose not to respond, allowing her to ramble on while focusing all her attention on Shinoda Kenichi.
This group of fellows wasn't entirely useless; their weapons were quite suitable for the current environment. Although it seemed they didn't have many bullets left, they could still help alleviate some pressure in an emergency.
"Mr. Nobunaga Hideyoshi, if we want to escape this time, we still have a yacht at our private dock in Tokyo Port that can accommodate all of us and save you the time of looking for a boat," Shinoda Kenichi sighed and continued promoting the benefits of his side.
He knew well the capabilities of Nobunaga and his few subordinates. Despite their small numbers, they had taken down several of his men with ease. It was clear that if guns were drawn, his side would be at a disadvantage; he had learned that guns weren't omnipotent through experience.
"What exactly happened to scare you like this? Isn't it safe now?" Nobunaga Hideyoshi asked calmly.
After all, this was his client; having this fellow alive brought considerable benefits since Yamaguchi-gumi's territory extended beyond Tokyo.
"It's not safe! It's really not safe! Takahashi Kiyoshi will definitely come after us! I've thought I was safe several times before, but he always found me! I only have these few left by my side!" Shinoda Kenichi seemed quite agitated at that moment.
"Takahashi Kiyoshi? He's still hunting you in this environment?" Nobunaga Hideyoshi expressed some surprise.
"Yes, it's him! He's no longer human; he's a monster—absolutely a monster! Even those man-eating zombies don't attack him! Bullets can't do anything to him!" A flicker of fear crossed Shinoda Kenichi's face. Although he had been passionate and fought fiercely in the past, he had grown accustomed to comfort and no longer possessed the youthful fervor he once had.
Moreover, his opponent was that kind of monster.
Yang Xiaoyou, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, couldn't help but change her expression. Since Shinoda was so terrified, it was clear that Takahashi Kiyoshi had transformed into something else entirely and was now trailing behind his former biggest competitor.
To be honest, even against an ordinary monster in combat, Yang Xiaoyou was confident she could face it head-on with a gun. Moreover, beside her were Weimar, Nobunaga Hideyoshi, Lucas, Fein, and Qian Kai—each one a formidable expert capable of dealing with a single monster together without issue.
Considering the timing, that monster should still be in its weakened state.
If it came directly at them, they might not even need to lift a finger.
However, what made monsters terrifying wasn't just their overwhelming combat power; their cunning and intelligence rivaled that of humans and were even more deadly.
Just as this thought flashed through Yang Xiaoyou's mind, a sudden loud crash echoed from the subway station entrance—a sound reminiscent of a flipped car being righted.
The sound of commotion echoed at the entrance of the subway station, and anyone could guess that some nearby Zombies would surely gather here.
“It’s it! It must be its doing! This has happened several times! Every time we try to find a safe place to rest, it creates a disturbance to attract those things, consuming our bullets. The ample ammunition we brought is now nearly depleted!” At this moment, Shinoda Kenichi wore a distressed expression.
Anyone being watched by such a fellow would struggle to rest, and it was remarkable that they had managed to hold on until now.
However, his words stirred the fear within the nearby students, casting a wave of pessimism over everyone. Yang Xiaoyou frowned involuntarily; his keen senses made him particularly sensitive to such an atmosphere, which he disliked.
“Has it been following us all this time without striking? What a cunning fellow.” Based on the information revealed by the others, Yang Xiaoyou quickly analyzed the situation in his mind.
Given that they had managed to escape in a city filled with Corpses, it meant that this creature had been careful in its approach.
Its ultimate goal was likely to consume their ammunition through the Corpses and then personally come to devour its greatest rival from life, filling the void within itself.
If that was indeed its plan, then the current situation might still be salvageable. As long as Shinoda Kenichi remained as bait, that fellow would eventually show up.
Moreover, they were not far from Tokyo Port; it wouldn’t allow its prey to escape there. This location was likely its last chance.
With his thoughts clarified, Yang Xiaoyou quickly grasped the situation at hand.
Outside, the creature merely stirred cars to create noise rather than igniting fuel tanks for explosions, which limited its range of attraction. Its initial target was probably still to consume bullets.
From its actions, it appeared that this fellow was quite cautious and likely still weak due to having just turned into a Corpse. This situation undoubtedly lowered the difficulty considerably.
The key now was to find a way to draw it out.
On the other side, Nobunaga Hideyoshi had also encountered this creature and understood its capabilities well. Although he had improved significantly under Yang Xiaoyou's tailored training plan, he knew that even if the strongest among them teamed up against such a formidable foe, they might still lose one or two in the process.
He wondered if Aser had any confidence in facing it.
“It has entered.” Just then, Yang Xiaoyou passively entered a state of Cognitive Acceleration again, hearing Dream Butterfly’s clear and ethereal voice in his ears.
Upon hearing her words, Yang Xiaoyou felt a jolt of alarm.
He had thought that the creature would first create chaos to consume their ammunition before taking action. However, it seemed to be feigning one intention while secretly slipping into the subway station itself. Perhaps it intended to rely on the gathering Corpses outside to trap them inside.
“According to the timeline, it should still be in a weakened state. How does it have confidence against Nobunaga Hideyoshi and the others? It should have seen them in action earlier; what does this mean?” Yang Xiaoyou’s mind raced anxiously as he heightened his Vigilance.
"You two are chanting like it's some kind of ritual, strange fellows." Fia, standing nearby, looked at the two who were speaking rapidly, feeling somewhat bewildered.
However, just as her words fell, a sudden scream erupted from a corner, and the sound quickly faded from the ears of the crowd, moving from near to far.
The unexpected turn of events startled everyone present. Once they regained their composure, they noticed that the spot where Qian Kai's last remaining subordinate had stood was now stained with blood. Following the trail of blood, it was evident that a body had been dragged into the dark depths of the subway station.
The area, already dimly lit by emergency lights due to a power outage, now felt even more eerie and terrifying.
Nearby students let out terrified screams.
Yang Xiaoyou looked at the bloodstain's location and recalled how quickly the sound had vanished. A flicker of shock crossed her eyes; this was far beyond what a weakened creature could do!
It was nowhere near what Sun Jun's half-formed creature could accomplish!
In fact, judging by the speed, this creature was even stronger than Huang Jing's. How could something so powerful have acted in such a short time?
