In the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, there is a national highway that almost traverses the entire country, cutting through the Gobi Desert and passing through most of the agricultural and residential areas.
However, despite this, the vast majority of the areas along this highway are nothing but desert, with only the occasional cactus providing a splash of color along the roadside. The landscape is dominated by a monotonous sandy yellow.
The relentless sun beats down on this road during this season, distorting the air above the pavement. The outside temperature exceeds forty-five degrees Celsius, and the ground is hot enough to fry an egg if dropped.
Vehicles are scarce on this highway; it is rare to see even one. The cacti lining the roadside stand like sentinels, watching over the road and observing the few vehicles that pass by.
“Damn! This air is as unbearable as back home!” A rugged off-road vehicle, clearly modified and covered in dust, roared across the scorching surface of the road.
From the roar of its engine, it was evident that it was not significantly affected by the heat or dust. Almost obscured by sand, its emblem revealed it to be a Military Hummer Off-Road Vehicle.
In the passenger seat, Lucas began to complain loudly. After venting his frustrations for a while, he started to glance at the driver—a woman in a leather jacket—admiring her exposed skin and curves. Occasionally, he would whistle as the vehicle jolted along.
Behind them were Shadow of Death and Yang Xiaoyou, along with two others who remained silent. One of them was a man in white who seemed to be meditating, while the other two appeared to be researchers based on their attire. However, both Yang Xiaoyou and Shadow of Death could sense an underlying aura of danger about them; they were definitely individuals who had blood on their hands—more than once.
If Yang Xiaoyou focused on technical skills and had some self-defense capabilities, these two must have been combat specialists within their organization, having also acquired some additional skills and knowledge.
When they encountered Yang Xiaoyou’s group, these two displayed a faint arrogance and showed no intention of engaging in conversation.
It was likely that if not for orders from their superiors, they might have provoked Yang Xiaoyou’s group upon first meeting.
Their names were not revealed; only Afifah briefly introduced them as ‘Doctor’ and ‘Assistant.’ From her expression and tone, it was clear that their status was above hers as a seductive spy.
Neither Shadow of Death nor Yang Xiaoyou showed any interest in their demeanor. Even the combative Lucas found himself uninterested in them now that he had entered a more mature phase of his development.
The primary purpose of this trip was to complete their mission; this was merely the first step in a collaboration between both sides. It was essential to maintain a good start for their partnership.
For the United Arab Emirates, they would gain resources to compensate for their shortcomings. For Hive Security Company, it was an irresistible offer that would also lay a solid foundation for future developments.
“Hmm, this is the closest town to our target. It looks rather desolate,” Yang Xiaoyou remarked as he surveyed the farms outside the window.
From satellite images alone, it appeared that there was vegetation on those farms; however, upon arrival, one could see that they were overrun with weeds.
"This place is quite remote; those with the ability have gone to the big cities, leaving mostly the elderly, women, and children behind. However, Kenna Town doesn't see much in the way of outsiders. The mindset here is very traditional." The two 'researchers' in the back, who were clearly lost in thought, would not answer such questions, so it was left to Afifah, who was driving.
"Are we almost there? Let's open the windows and turn off the air conditioning to help our bodies adjust," Lucas said, always looking for an opportunity to be a bit too familiar.
Although the two 'researchers' in the back seemed somewhat indifferent, as if they thought it was an overreaction, they eventually opened the windows.
The scorching air blew away the remnants of the cool air inside as they began driving on a road that was nearly invisible, a long-abandoned sandy path.
The high temperature caused everyone in the vehicle to sweat profusely.
However, each person here had undergone rigorous training. Under such conditions, aside from sweating more, there were no other reactions.
This desolate sandy road was far worse than they had imagined. Even with the superior performance of the Hummer, they had to stop twice along the way and push it out before they could continue. To maintain a steady speed, they clearly slowed down afterward.
A journey of just twenty-five kilometers took them an hour.
As they approached a dilapidated sign and the overall desolation of the town, the vehicle gradually came to a stop at the entrance.
At that moment, from a building resembling a Western saloon near the town entrance, a burly man with a bushy beard stepped out. Judging by his expression alone, he was clearly in a very displeased state.
"This place doesn't welcome outsiders! State your business or I won't hesitate to blow out your tires with my shotgun and toss you into that damned desert!"
As he walked toward them, the bearded man waved his fists in anger while shouting loudly, spitting saliva several feet away.
"Hi there! You should ask us why we're here. That other car looks like it's from out of town too," Lucas called out from the passenger seat, casually waving at the fellow while pointing at an old car parked not far from the bar.
From its tires and condition, it was evident that it had traversed this road as well; aside from tractors used for harvesting crops, vehicles were hardly needed in this town.
"Damn it! That's a relative of someone from our town, and I don't think we have any black bastard as a cousin! Ugh! Damn!" The burly man had reached them now and leaned against the car door, looking as if he wanted nothing more than to punch Lucas. His palm had been burned by the hot door, making his expression even more unpleasant.
The dark red stains on his apron and some grime added to his intimidating presence, creating quite a visual impact.
At that moment, Afifah in the driver's seat began to assert her presence. "You can ask the Mayor; he's been complaining about the poor medical conditions in town. That's why he contacted two doctors to come here and set up a clinic. We're here to assess potential locations."
"Clinic? I wasn't aware of that. Isn't Old Salin still doing fine? Come on down, this is the only place in town that offers accommodation for Outsiders, and it’s two hundred dirhams a night." After grumbling and cursing for a while, he ultimately refrained from trying to chase them away.
He then directly quoted the price, adding, "Per person!"
Upon hearing this quote, Although still wore a smile, Afifah couldn't help but curse inwardly at the extortionate rate. Perhaps putting on such a fierce demeanor was just a tactic to justify charging this outrageous lodging fee.
One dirham was equivalent to over two yuan, and in such a desolate place, looking at the dilapidated bar environment made it clear that this charge was rather steep.
After parking the car in a shaded area, they followed him into the bar-like building. The filthy interior was hard to bear.
The tables and chairs were covered in black clumps that looked greasy, clearly indicating they hadn't been cleaned in ages. Yet, amidst this shabby bar, there were still a few patrons chatting and drinking, which inevitably reminded them of the old car outside.
The two White-Clad Researchers who entered with Yang Xiaoyou couldn't help but focus intently on their surroundings; the way the Boss treated guests indicated that few people frequented this place.
Especially during such sensitive times, it was likely that individuals from Black September or Mossad could be present.
However, after observing for a while, they found nothing amiss; everyone appeared to be farmers.
On the second floor of the bar, a man wrapped in a headscarf glanced at the SUV outside and raised an eyebrow as he said to those inside, "I thought once we left IA they wouldn't be able to do anything. This time, though, their Reaction speed is surprisingly quick."
