In a coastal town in South America, a shop window attracted a crowd of onlookers. A television hung above, broadcasting the latest news.
"Large-scale Bloodthirsty creatures have appeared near the Panama Canal, resulting in multiple casualties. The local Armed Forces are making every effort to contain the situation, but as of this report, the circumstances remain unclear. Our reporter, facing threats to their life, has returned to the capital of Panama three hours ago. We will continue to follow up on this story."
The television then flashed a blurry video, showing figures moving rapidly, lunging at people as if to tear them apart. The crowd expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the national broadcaster's footage; it was impossible to see what was happening clearly.
"Hey, old man, with your experience, what do you think those things are?" a freckled young man asked a middle-aged man with Rhinophyma, chewing gum as he spoke.
"They're not human for sure; they must be some kind of unknown marine creature," the middle-aged man replied, taking a sip from the bottle of white liquor he held before slowly walking away.
"Could they be fishmen?" The freckled young man shook his head in confusion.
Suddenly, a series of roars echoed from nearby. The freckled young man's heart raced as he turned toward the sound.
Maybe this is just a dream, he thought at first. But less than ten meters away, he saw a pale-faced figure, seemingly ready to lose flesh at any moment, grabbing a child and starting to eat. Yes, it was eating a person. The freckled young man trembled; it felt as if his freckles were about to shake off his face. The screams instantly filled the once peaceful South American town.
Lin Yi swallowed hard; his mouth felt almost completely dry. As he stared at the approaching Zombies, everyone froze in shock—there were too many of them, far too many to bear.
"What are you waiting for? Get in the car and drive!" Gal shouted loudly as he climbed onto the roof of the vehicle. The crowd had been stunned by the sheer number of Zombies but quickly snapped back to reality and rushed to get inside.
In just a few seconds, everyone was ready. Flower Cannon immediately accelerated the vehicle. Although there were many Zombies, all they needed to do was push through their encirclement with determination. After exchanging glances with everyone, Flower Cannon slammed down on the gas pedal, and the car shot forward like an arrow aimed at the Zombies.
Thirty meters!
Twenty meters!
Ten meters!
Closer! Closer! Just as they were about to charge into the horde of Zombies, the vehicle suddenly came to a halt.
"Damn it! Flower Cannon, are you trying to get us killed?" Bai shouted at Flower Cannon, who was sitting in the driver's seat, as the Zombies loomed ever closer.
"The car's out of gas!" came Flower Cannon's voice, nearly filled with despair from the back of the vehicle.
What to do? That was the only question on everyone's mind. The Zombies were already too close; if they couldn't break free, it would be a dead end!
"Retreat to the plane; the car is too cramped for us to maneuver!" Gal immediately jumped out of the car and began firing at the approaching Zombies, trying to halt their advance.
With no other thoughts in their heads, everyone quickly followed Gal's lead and exited the vehicle.
"Women first; we'll cover you!" Bai glanced at Jiao Jiao and Hai as they got out and nodded at them.
Lin Yi approached Reiko cautiously and said, "Wen is relying on you!"
At that moment, Aoling Er didn't know what else to do but nodded and joined Jiao Jiao and Hai as they helped Li Qiweng towards the damaged plane.
The Zombies moved slowly but were already closing in on them. The four of them formed a defensive line, shooting while retreating. At this point, if anyone wanted to break through the dense circle of Zombies surrounding them, it would only lead to death. However, retreating to the plane also seemed like a dead end if no one came to their rescue; it was just a matter of time. But everyone pushed those thoughts aside—every extra moment alive meant more hope.
The sluggish Zombies seemed to lack the strength from fresh flesh, and with the four of them desperately shooting, they managed to hold them off for a while. They were now only about forty meters from the plane. In such a critical moment, they ran for their lives and quickly reached underneath the aircraft within seconds.
The gaping hole in the damaged plane was large enough to accommodate two people passing through at the same time. However, as everyone entered the fuselage, the zombies outside were only a few steps away.
"Quick, go to the cabin and find something to block the hole!" Gal shouted while firing his weapon and directing the others.
Lin Yi and Bai stood guard at the entrance, taking aim at the approaching zombies with precise shots. Just glancing at the horde before them, which was conservatively estimated to be around two thousand, filled everyone with a sense of hopelessness regarding their escape.
The others rummaged through the cabin but only managed to find a few disassembled lounge chairs discarded in a corner. While the chairs were large enough, they could only barely cover part of the opening. With so many zombies outside, if they managed to climb up, it would be uncertain whether they could hold them off for long.
"What do we do?" Bai felt an overwhelming pressure after just a few minutes of holding on, a pressure that left him feeling utterly trapped.
Gal fell silent for a moment, equally helpless; all they could do was resist for now. The zombies weren't launching an all-out assault yet, but their relentless determination made it clear how much they wanted to devour these humans.
Bai Zai reached for something at his waist and then tossed a dark object into the crowd of zombies.
"Get down!"
Without hesitation, the four of them instinctively dropped to the ground, and then they heard a loud boom. Lin Yi felt a wet substance splatter on his face—sticky and reeking of foul odor.
As the noise subsided, Gal signaled for everyone to climb up the ladder onto the plane. The three moved swiftly, reaching the aircraft in mere seconds before sealing the cargo door tightly. Now, the only opening in the plane was that large gash, but fortunately, it was at least a person's height off the ground; unless the zombies had significant jumping ability, they wouldn't be able to easily reach them.
Everyone was exhausted but dared not relax; a horde of zombies surrounded them outside, and no one knew what might happen next. They huddled together, listening to the growls of the zombies outside, their hearts racing with fear.
"We can't rely on anyone coming to rescue us now. If this group of zombies keeps surrounding us, even if they can't get in, we'll starve to death," Flower Cannon said anxiously as he peered through a gap at the relentless zombies trying to break in.
"Don't worry, someone will come to rescue us soon. After all, such an important incident has happened at the airport; there won't be no one to take care of it," Gal said, though he was also worried as a member of this country. He refused to believe that the situation would continue to worsen.
Lin Yi was calculating in his mind, and although they were safe for now, the future looked grim. Just as he was deep in thought, he suddenly witnessed something unbelievable.
Soon, the others standing in front of the opening also saw the scene!
"How can this be happening!"
"Do they actually have intelligence?"
Everyone was shocked; the situation had suddenly become extremely critical!
"This group of Zombies is actually doing this!" Reiko covered her mouth, unable to believe what she was seeing.
On the dark tarmac, a metallic object was slowly moving without a sound. This object was none other than the off-road vehicle that Lin Yi and the others had just abandoned! At that moment, the vehicle was being pushed toward them by a horde of Zombies. The headlights were still on, casting an eerie glow that made Lin Yi and the others' hearts race with fear.
The off-road vehicle was getting closer; what seemed like dozens of meters would close in less than a minute. The Zombies' intentions were clear—they were using the vehicle to climb up.
"If those things get too close, we could be overwhelmed!" Bai shouted as he desperately fired his weapon, with no other options available.
Lin Yi's heart sank further. Li Qiweng was still asleep; if he remained so, Lin Yi truly didn't know if they could survive in this unfamiliar land. Although he had hope for escape, seeing everyone around him perish would weigh heavily on his conscience.
One must always hold onto kindness!
Lin Yi pinched himself hard and then walked up to the Gal Officer, saying, "Officer, no matter what happens, I hope you can take good care of Sister Li Qiweng. If possible, please help send her back to Lion City! Thank you!"
Before the Gal could respond, Lin Yi took out the Potential Gene Drug from his pocket and swallowed it. In just a few seconds, he felt a wave of heat surging within him.
"You all do your best to defend; I'm going out to kill a few more Zombies!" Lin Yi declared as he drew the blade he had been carrying on his back. An unstoppable aura erupted from him.
For a moment, no one tried to stop Lin Yi from this seemingly suicidal act; it was as if he was merely stepping out to crush a few ants.
In an instant, Lin Yi darted out through the unblocked gap at a speed more than ten times that of an ordinary person. The Zombies were already starting to climb up from the SUV. As Lin Yi stepped outside, he saw one Zombie seemingly unaware of him, preparing to stand up on the roof of the vehicle to attack the gap blocked by a recliner.
At that moment, Lin Yi's reaction speed had surpassed human comprehension; in his eyes, the Zombie's movements appeared frozen. Without hesitation, almost seeking punishment, he flashed his blade and decapitated the Zombie before it could fully rise. Before he could even feel smug about it, as soon as he struck down one Zombie, he was already landing and attacking another.
"Thud! Thud! Thud!" The sound of heads rolling echoed around.
All everyone could see was a blurred shadow amidst the horde of Zombies, accompanied by flashes of blades moving at an incredible speed, causing one Zombie after another to fall. Within mere seconds of their breaths, all the Zombies surrounding the SUV lay dead on the ground. By the time everyone realized what had happened, Lin Yi had already moved far away.
"Superman!" The crowd struggled to find words to describe what they had witnessed and could only compare him to legendary figures.
Hearing their shouts, Lin Yi knew that his performance was indeed impressive, but he also wondered if he could last for two hours. If they hadn't broken through the encirclement by then, they would be doomed. With this thought weighing on him, Lin Yi felt a pang of bitterness and couldn't help but sigh inwardly: "I'm not Superman!"
