The sound of waves crashing against the Eastern African Coast echoed in the distance, gentle and soothing like the warm caress of a lover, making the world seem infinitely peaceful for a moment. However, not far from the coast, a group of people was completely engulfed in terror. They looked around frantically, their eyes filled with unease, as if something horrifying lurked in the darkness, ready to claim their lives.
The tranquil night was enveloped in an inky blackness. The darkness transformed many impossible things into possibilities, much like a messenger from hell that seemed to truly exist. Will's back was drenched in sweat, yet he struggled to control his emotions. He didn't know what he had seen; in reality, he had seen nothing at all. But fear clung to him like a parasite, and he couldn't find its source.
"Quick, gather together!" Lin Yi shouted as he caught sight of a shadow that resembled a person darting through his line of vision. The shadow moved with such speed that even he found it hard to discern what it was. He knew that until they devised a plan, defense was their priority.
Lin Yi's shout jolted everyone awake, and instinctively they moved toward his position. No one felt particularly confident at that moment; naturally, everything revolved around Lin Yi.
Lin Yi stood alone at the front while Fire Dragon Douglas held the rear. Number 19 and Taishan were responsible for defending against attacks from the sides, while Ying Sa and Will would guard the other side. After all, Lin Yi couldn't manage everything alone. Douglas focused on using Psychic Power to locate the approaching shadow while coordinating with Fire Dragon for an attack. Although Number 19's body was as tough as iron, his combat effectiveness was limited; thus, Taishan took on the task of dealing with any threats.
In less than thirty seconds, Lin Yi had assigned everyone their roles. By this time, Will had calmed down enough to communicate with the helicopter overhead about maintaining defenses.
It seemed that the shadow was momentarily deterred by their unity and did not continue its assault. However, they couldn't afford to wait idly; Lin Yi and Douglas simultaneously unleashed their psychic powers to probe the surroundings. Unfortunately, apart from the sea breeze and the whirlwinds stirred up by the helicopter above, there was nothing else present. The devil's messenger seemed to have vanished in an instant or perhaps decided against continuing its assassination mission.
No, something must be amiss! Lin Yi never believed in such good fortune; the enemy was surely waiting for an opportunity. But what exactly was wrong? His mind felt frozen at that moment, unable to grasp any reasoning.
Suddenly, Number 19 felt darkness envelop him as a chilling wind sliced through the air. Before he could react, a shadow had already approached him swiftly. He watched helplessly as a dark claw reached out toward his neck, but he couldn't move fast enough to stop it.
With a sharp sound like metal scraping against metal ringing in his ears, he felt as if his throat would be sliced open and blood would pour forth. Yet that moment never came; years of experience told him that such force wasn't enough to truly harm him. Still, the stinging sensation shot through his skin and into his mind, causing his eyes to twitch painfully.
The shadow seemed taken aback but quickly disregarded Number 19 and lunged at someone beside him with another claw. Number 19 couldn't let this happen; although he couldn't match the enemy's speed, he had to try. He threw himself in front of the person targeted by the shadow, determined to block the death it brought. But it was too late—he felt slow and realized that claw had already sliced through him toward its intended victim's chest.
With a sickening sound of flesh being pierced echoing in his ears, Number 19 knew he had failed.
"Die!" In an instant of desperation and powerlessness, Number 19 raised his gun and fired at the shadow ahead of him. He needed to scream; he needed to vent his fury.
The shadow's first strike missed, and the second was deflected by the figure in front of it, failing to land a hit. However, the shadow did not linger; in just one more second, the Laser Guns in the hands of these people would turn it into a sieve.
With a speed beyond human comprehension, the shadow swiftly retreated. Number 19 only caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a person with wings before it vanished from his sight, and the Laser Beam he had just fired failed to hit any target.
Lin Yi prided himself on having reflexes superior to most, but when he turned around, he barely saw a shadow disappearing at the edge of his vision, completely merging with the night.
"Everyone, start shooting!" Lin Yi commanded without hesitation, firing at the spot where the shadow had disappeared. As everyone else reacted, they quickly turned and unleashed a barrage in that direction.
Brilliant Laser Beams illuminated the darkness ahead in an instant, followed closely by metal bullets piercing the tranquil night sky. This onslaught lasted for thirty seconds, targeting a hundred Zombies ahead, which likely wouldn't survive such firepower. Yet, there was not a single sound; deep down, they all knew their opponent had already fled.
"Bring down the helicopter; we need to evacuate some people!" Though Lin Yi had a nagging feeling that this sudden appearance of a dark killer was closely related to Benito, he dared not take further risks to capture him. Continuing down this path could cost many lives. Since gaining his Ability, he had always been invincible; never before had he felt so defeated, not even catching a glimpse of his opponent!
Will nodded. He didn't want to die—at least not in such a humiliating way. So despite having Beauty by his side, he called for the helicopter to descend. As for the vanished Benito, he believed he could capture him again.
The hovering helicopter quickly descended, marking one of the most dangerous moments; that shadow could appear at any moment to kill anyone present. Lin Yi and Douglas focused all their mental energy on monitoring their surroundings for any signs of movement. However, with so many distractions around them, they struggled to locate their enemy.
Not far away, a soldier was cautiously approaching the landed helicopter while keeping watch. Yet on his youthful face lingered an inexplicable fear because death was close at hand. In the next moment, the young soldier felt a sharp pain in his neck—a suffocating agony—as he instinctively reached for it. Fear gripped him as he realized his fingers were sticky; raising his hand revealed it covered in warm blood.
Terrified, the young soldier felt himself weakening. He began to run, desperate to escape this terror. But then true horror struck as he saw a headless corpse rush past him, its hands stained with blood just like his own. The soldier's Consciousness quickly faded into chaos; until his last moment, he wondered why he couldn't move.
With a thud, the young soldier's head rolled onto the ground and spun several times before coming to rest some distance from its body. All this transpired in an instant, yet Lin Yi witnessed it clearly—he saw a soldier's head severed from his body while that soldier still managed to command his body forward for a few steps before being irrevocably separated from it.
"Whoosh!" At that moment when the soldier fell, Lin Yi rushed forward but was too late; the soldier had already lost all signs of life. Lin Yi sensed a faint disturbance in the air around him but could not lock onto the killer's form; even as the soldier died, he failed to catch sight of their assailant.
“Douglas, lock on!” Lin Yi shouted, instantly capturing everyone's attention in the surrounding area. He was certain that the target was nearby.
Douglas's mental energy surged forward like a tide. Of course, this force was so intangible that only Lin Yi, who also possessed mental energy, could clearly sense it.
The two mental energies collided in an instant, sending ripples through the space around them. There was even a faint sensation of electric sparks. However, Lin Yi knew this was merely an illusion caused by Douglas's overwhelming power, which was almost tangible.
“I found you!” Douglas exclaimed.
The two of them had connected their mental energies, allowing Lin Yi to instantly lock onto the figure of their target. The two powerful mental forces acted like invisible chains, forcing the hidden figure into view, though it still remained undetectable by the naked eye. They silently communicated and tightened their grip on that figure; at this moment, they already knew who it was!
In the next instant, the figure finally revealed itself—it was Benito, the person they had been desperately searching for!
“Kill!” Almost as soon as Lin Yi shouted, the two Silver Souls behind him shot forward like dragons emerging from the sea. But that wasn't enough; Lin Yi followed closely behind, refusing to allow even a hint of error.
With a whoosh and a powerful sonic boom, the Silver Souls raced toward Benito. In just a moment, this heinous individual would be erased from existence. A smile crept onto Lin Yi's lips; even a god couldn't escape unscathed from such a deadly situation.
Just then, an eerie scene unfolded. A pitch-black hand suddenly appeared before the elder as if it had torn through the void, barely blocking the path of the Silver Souls!
With a clang, the sharp sound of metal striking metal echoed as the Silver Souls collided with the black hand.
