With no way to retreat, the only option left was to fight to the death. This was the last message Bruh conveyed to Lin Yi. Humanity had little strategic buffer left, while the Zombie threat loomed ever closer. Even if they weren't fully prepared, action had to begin now.
The so-called City of Death was a city occupied by Zombies, where only ghostly figures wandered, devoid of any signs of life. These Zombies were relentless in their siege, the main culprits behind the spread of the Zombie Virus. The siege mission organized by the Security Council was a nationwide Attack operation, open to anyone with the capability to participate.
The existence of the Mercenary Alliance was, in many ways, a response to this Zombie Crisis. Therefore, when the Security Council issued this command, the Mercenary Alliance responded actively.
Previously, when Lin Yi encountered the Golden Mercenary Corps, they were on a mission to establish a foothold in an area besieged by Zombies, aiming to gradually reclaim lost territory.
This time, Lin Yi agreed to accept the generous offer from Bruh: a team of one thousand. However, this had nothing to do with Ying Sa; it was entirely a personal gift from Bruh to Lin Yi. Since they all belonged to the Mercenary Alliance, there were no significant issues. In fact, Bruh even sent a letter to the Alliance Headquarters, informing them of the situation in Milan, and they agreed to transfer the one thousand personnel under Lin Yi's command.
Just half a year ago, Lin Yi was still an employee, but now he commanded nearly two thousand elite troops on the front lines against the Zombies. Such is the unpredictability of life.
The team of one thousand that Bruh provided for Lin Yi was training at a base not far from an ancient castle. Both Lin Yi and Bruh rushed over immediately. The location was nestled in a valley dense with jungle; outside were lush trees that would make it difficult for anyone unfamiliar with the area to find.
As Lin Yi recalled his previous efforts to recruit the Lone Wolf Mercenary Group, where he had eliminated several uncooperative mercenaries, he felt a twinge of concern despite Bruh's presence.
There were no guards at the entrance of the training camp, but Bruh informed Lin Yi that powerful automated weapons were deployed there, ready to attack any outsiders immediately. Since Lin Yi had come with Bruh, he didn't need to worry about this issue.
Upon entering the training camp, Lin Yi was taken aback. Many individuals were lifting massive iron weights for strength training on a training ground covering dozens of acres, while others practiced combat skills. Although Bruh owned this team, no one paid him any attention as he walked in. He didn’t disturb their training and headed straight into a building resembling an office.
Inside the office was only one person—a woman in her thirties—who saluted respectfully upon seeing Bruh.
“Lord Butler! Everything is ready; we can depart at any time!” Her voice was somewhat rough; though she was relatively attractive, there was an air of intensity about her.
“Good, assemble everyone; we leave tonight!” Bruh was decisive and issued his command without hesitation.
Feeling slightly awkward, Lin Yi sensed that he seemed invisible as the woman completely overlooked him. However, he wasn't one to dwell on such matters and followed along with Bruh.
The woman arrived at the training ground and shouted, "All personnel, assemble!"
"Boom, boom, boom!" As soon as her voice fell, a series of dull thuds echoed. Those who were training dropped their weights and hurriedly gathered together.
One minute later, a thousand-person formation stood in perfect order. Lin Yi felt a twinge of shame at this sight; his own team had never exhibited such military discipline.
"From now on, you will serve under Captain Lin Yi. He is our First-Class Steward of the Mercenary Alliance, and I believe you all understand his personal capabilities. This time, Captain Lin Yi will lead you on a significant mission. Upon successful return, each of you will be a hero of the Mercenary Alliance! And the rule of the Alliance is that heroes will not be treated poorly!" Bruh's voice was not loud, but it carried well, echoing throughout the circular Mountain Valley.
"Yes!" A thousand voices roared in unison, shaking the air and startling many birds into flight.
Bruh gestured for Lin Yi to say a few words; after all, he needed to establish his presence with this team.
"Since you have joined my Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, I expect us to live and die together—never retreat! Of course, upon successfully completing the mission, you will receive the rewards you deserve!" Having experienced many situations, Lin Yi was not one to shy away now. He deliberately used his Psychic Power to control his voice, making it resonate deeply.
"We will obey Captain Lin's orders!" Another unified roar erupted, but this time all eyes were on Lin Yi.

When Lin Yi and Bruh returned to the castle, the previously clear sky suddenly darkened with thick clouds. The heavy rain clouds loomed over the castle like a black haze, making the air stifling and hard to breathe. This area had a Mediterranean climate; typically, summers were quite dry. Such oppressive clouds were rare and signaled an impending downpour.
"Everything is ready; let’s set off as usual! It’s not far—just thirty kilometers ahead of the Milan Defense Zone. Because it falls within the coverage area of artillery fire, there aren’t large gatherings of Zombies there, so there’s no need to worry too much!" Bruh seemed to sense Lin Yi's concern and explained.
Lin Yi merely nodded, gazing at the ominous clouds that seemed ready to descend. A persistent annoyance lingered in his heart. He had always wanted to enjoy a few peaceful days but was constantly troubled by various matters.
The departure time was still at night, just like with the Golden Mercenary Corps. However, when he heard Bruh's reasoning, Lin Yi was taken aback. Bruh suspected that there were traitors among humans who continuously provided information to the Zombies.
Most people would likely dismiss Bruh's claims as absurd. But Lin Yi firmly believed him; he remembered Reagan—the one who had led Zombies into human cities. Although Lin Yi had witnessed him being blown up by a bomb, he still found such individuals utterly despicable. Moreover, there were numerous Intelligent Zombies among them, including Zhao Pei—who was almost indistinguishable from humans! If there truly were humans colluding with Zombies, it would be an extremely terrifying situation.
Regarding the zombie disaster, Lin Yi tried to find answers from Bruh, but he realized that if it were solely due to these zombies, human cities could not have fallen so rapidly on such a large scale. Although Lin Yi was reluctant to believe it, the truth was likely just that. Regardless of their purpose, it was undeniable that someone was definitely serving these zombies!
Lin Yi clenched his fists, only to feel a wave of helplessness wash over him. No matter how powerful he was, it was impossible to eradicate all the zombies. Moreover, as long as even one zombie escaped, human society would never know peace!
Soon, those who had come to Milan with Lin Yi learned about his takeover of a thousand-man team and quickly rushed back from the hospital. Witerson II, who had been recuperating in the hospital, insisted on being discharged upon hearing that they were going into battle again. Lin Yi feared for Witerson II's safety and after some consideration decided to take him along. After all, the Sea God Technique's recovery ability was far superior to the special medicines in the hospital; Witerson II was mainly there for recuperation and didn’t need to stay in the hospital.
Night fell quickly, but a torrential rain poured down. The rain seemed to be directly dumped from the sky, with huge raindrops hitting the Transport Vehicle with a loud patter. Lin Yi's destination was located thirty-five degrees left of the Milan Defense Zone's South Side, while the Golden Mercenary Corps had set off from a slightly right position in the South Side. However, according to Bruh, the Golden Mercenary Corps had nearly brought an entire division's worth of strength with them, so the city they were attacking was quite significant. In contrast, Lin Yi's forces were relatively weak and primarily equipped with individual weapons. Nevertheless, Bruh assured him that aerial fire support would be provided; their mission was more about clearing out zombies than engaging in heavy combat.
In the command vehicle Lin Yi rode in, it was just him and his previous squad. To his surprise, Ouyang Shasha had also come along. To be honest, he felt a bit apprehensive about seeing her but couldn’t really be too harsh on her given what he was doing. It felt somewhat strange to have such a charming beauty by his side while hunting zombies.
"Are we being used as cannon fodder again?" Pachy approached Lin Yi with a somewhat grim expression. They had originally planned to regroup in Milan before returning to the Greater Paris Defense Zone since the Milan Defense Zone was too close to the sea and could be hit by large-scale Oceanic Undead attacks at any moment.
"When they decided to come rescue us, this plan was already in place. Do you think I could refuse?" Lin Yi felt a sense of being played but realized that no matter where they went, they would need to resist zombies anyway.
Pachy's expression changed slightly; after what seemed like a significant internal struggle, he said to Lin Yi, "Mr. Li, when you have time, I hope we can have a good talk!"
Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat at Pachy's words. After all that had just happened with Bruh's "forced marriage," he felt guilty towards Li Qiweng. Although it was likely that Bruh only wanted him to serve him by getting Ying Sa involved with him, he had genuinely developed feelings.
Before Lin Yi could respond to Pachy’s comment, the command vehicle suddenly shook violently as if struck by something heavy, and an ear-piercing alarm blared instantly.
