The once-crowded highway was now a scene of chaos. Those who had just thought they had escaped disaster were no longer concerned with decorum, hurling curses at the "obstructionists" ahead. But the ragged figures of the zombies, reeking of decay and corruption, paid no heed to their shouts.
"Let's fight them!" Rabbit exclaimed, panic setting in as he bit at anyone nearby. Upon realizing that the path ahead was blocked by an endless horde of zombies, those who had just escaped felt they had no choice but to make a desperate stand.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Someone took the initiative, and gunfire erupted. The sparks from the ordinary firearms lit up the dark night, like a final requiem for their lives.
These desperate individuals were hardly marksmen. Although they all knew that the zombies' weakness lay in their heads, most of their bullets merely struck the bodies of the undead.
"Roar!" The zombies, sensing the fresh flesh before them, disregarded the threat of bullets.
"Ah—" A scream pierced the night sky, sending chills down everyone's spine. The hands that had gripped their weapons trembled involuntarily, and fear of the zombies grew even stronger.
Panic quickly spread; those who had initially tried to resist began to flee in a frenzy. Without hesitation, they started their cars and charged toward the horde of zombies, madness etched on their faces.
No matter how fierce these zombies were, they were still flesh and blood. As long as they drove fast enough, surely the zombies couldn't stop them! This was what they thought and what they did. They pushed their vehicles to the limit, attempting to break through the zombie threat.
"Boom!" Suddenly, a muffled sound echoed as the first car was sent flying into the air. The second vehicle followed suit with a violent jolt.
At that moment, those in the cars behind finally caught sight of a towering figure over two meters tall charging toward the third vehicle like a steel beast.
The nightmare had only just begun...

Lin Yi had considered that zombies would quickly block those trying to escape from the west. However, he believed that the entire Milan Defense Zone was many times larger than Milan itself; even if zombies were fast, they couldn't be that quick. Yet it was clear he underestimated this latest zombie attack; although they moved methodically, each strike was deadly accurate. In just a short time, most areas of the Milan Defense Zone had likely fallen to the undead onslaught.
"Renesmee, I've defeated you. Let's move on!" If this stalemate continued, even if Renesmee agreed to let them pass later, it would be too late.
At that moment, Renesmee's expression was not good. Although she heard the gunfire and the sounds of the dead nearby, someone who had never been humiliated in front of others would not easily concede.
"No way..." Renesmee lifted her chin defiantly, her face showing determination.
Suddenly, she felt a gust of wind rush past her. The next moment, a chill with a sharp edge struck her neck, and she instantly felt a burning pain on her delicate skin.
"Keep talking, and don't blame me for being ruthless!" A cold male voice interrupted her, directly cutting off her words. The aura he exuded suggested that if Renesmee dared to say no again, the blade in his hand would slice into her throat. Nicolas, witnessing Lin Yi's imposing stance, hesitated to intervene. Even Tina and the twin brothers looked at Lin Yi with fear; they were used to bullying others but had never felt so intimidated before.
Though Renesmee was usually proud, her life was now in the hands of this ruthless man. She could only lower her head and respond, "Fine, but..."
"Pachy, Jian, hurry up and get the ropes ready! Set up the bridge!" Lin Yi commanded while pointing his knife at Renesmee.
Pachy and the others, who had been stunned by the scene, finally snapped back to reality. They nodded hurriedly and began preparing. The sounds of killing were getting closer; they knew that if they continued to hesitate, there would be no escape.
"No need; I have a way." Renesmee seemed somewhat afraid of Lin Yi and spoke hesitantly. No matter how fierce she was, she couldn't compare to Lin Yi, who thrived amidst death.
Lin Yi looked at Renesmee with suspicion, as if trying to determine whether this vampire was planning something.
"You know the power of my Frozen Domain. While I may not be able to defeat you, creating an Ice Bridge is no problem," Renesmee said suddenly, a hint of blush appearing on her face as if recalling something amusing; even a slight smile tugged at her lips.
"Boss, Ice Sister won't go back on her word!" At that moment, Nicolas rushed over to Lin Yi's side to explain. He preferred to support his crush over anything else.
Listening to the increasingly close sound of cannon fire, Lin Yi knew that delaying any further was not an option, so he nodded in agreement. Renesmee let out a sigh of relief after Lin Yi removed the "Silver Soul" that had been pressed against her neck.
In the next moment, Renesmee closed her blue eyes, her long eyelashes fluttering, adding a touch of femininity to her demeanor.
A few seconds later, a whirlwind swept through the air, carrying ice crystals with it. As time passed, the number of ice crystals increased until they coalesced into a long white block of ice resembling a screen, stretching for dozens of meters. Then, with a delicate shout from Renesmee, the long block of ice slowly tilted towards the mountain opposite them.
After about ten seconds, the ice block finally lay diagonally between the two peaks, forming a genuine Ice Bridge. The temperature around them dropped sharply due to the sudden appearance of this massive ice structure, making everything feel surreal.
However, Renesmee seemed dissatisfied with her creation and continued to wave her hands to make further improvements to the Ice Bridge. In the blink of an eye, several stair-like shapes appeared on the bridge, making it easier for anyone crossing it. The fine ice crystals also provided sufficient friction, eliminating concerns about slipping.
Everyone was astonished by this miraculous display, their mouths agape as if they could fit two eggs inside. Although Lin Yi was equally surprised, he had seen many Ability users before and quickly stabilized his emotions.
"Everyone, retreat immediately to the mountain on the other side!" Lin Yi directed his Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps members; he didn’t want Beatrice to misunderstand his intentions regarding his Golden Mercenary Corps.
Beatrice also calmed down instantly and began organizing his team for a strategic retreat. He had a nagging feeling that he might be overwhelmed by the endless Zombie Army in this desolate mountain range.
"Boss, the drones I sent out earlier have reported that at least two hundred thousand Zombies are closing in on us, and their numbers are still increasing," Witerson II said from his post in front of the monitors; after all, he was not suited for combat at that moment.
Lin Yi raised an eyebrow; things were worse than he had anticipated. He knew that it had taken the Zombies a long time to breach the tunnels leading to the Southern Defense Zone merely as a feint; their actual goal was to seize control of the entire Milan Defense Zone. If they attempted to escape northward now, they would likely run straight into a Zombie nest. However, he hadn’t expected that within less than an hour, Zombies would already be upon them.
"Continue monitoring. It seems we won't be able to drive through later on. Find a way to move all monitoring equipment over; we need to prepare for a prolonged battle!" The thought of being surrounded by Zombies made Lin Yi's heart race with anxiety.
At that moment, Lin Yi noticed Beatrice directing his team and suddenly an idea flashed through his mind. As he contemplated this idea, Lin Yi's face lit up with excitement that was almost palpable.
"Beatrice, how about we go kill a few Zombies for fun?" Lin Yi said directly.
Upon hearing Lin Yi's words, Beatrice was momentarily taken aback, but then she burst into laughter. "If I kill more than you, how about a reward of one hundred thousand Contribution Points?"
Both were bold individuals with exceptional skills, usually commanding their entire team. They rarely had the chance to indulge in a thrilling battle, which was quite frustrating for them given their high combat abilities.
"Sounds good!" One hundred thousand Contribution Points was nothing Lin Yi couldn't afford to gamble.
After giving some instructions, just as they were about to set off, Jian suddenly ran up to Lin Yi, asking to join them. Before Lin Yi could respond, the only Five-Star Master also approached, wanting to tag along.
Beatrice readily agreed to her teammate's request, and Lin Yi had no choice but to accept Jian's plea as well. Although a Three-Star's combat power wasn't overwhelmingly strong, self-preservation shouldn't be too much of an issue. Besides, with two Seven-Star level experts around, there was little chance of his teammates getting into trouble.
The convoy stretched long, nearly occupying half of the Winding Mountain Road. Lin Yi and his group had no choice but to walk across the rooftops of the vehicles. A few minutes later, they reached a fork in the road, but it had turned into chaos.
Under the dim streetlights, what had once been a fleeing convoy was now reduced to ruins. Many people had already been bitten down by Zombies on the ground, while more had been devoured to the point where only their skeletons remained. Even the bloodstains on them were licked clean. Lin Yi knew that these Zombies could enhance their strength by feasting on human flesh. Currently, they were chasing after the last remaining vehicle; however, that vehicle had excellent performance and even a Giant Zombie couldn't catch up with its speed.
Lin Yi and Beatrice exchanged glances; they both felt compelled to save the last Survivor. In the next moment, they vanished from sight in a flash at the intersection.
