The faint sound of roars still echoed in everyone's ears, but the Corrupted Creatures that had made those sounds had long since dissipated into black mist. In just a moment, hundreds of Grinder Undead were completely eradicated. The Nile Crocodiles, who had already awakened their intelligence, swiftly dodged as the sea unleashed its Divine Technique.
Even though the power of the Divine Technique had faded, the Corpseification beasts, stunned by the shock, hesitated, fear evident in their grayish-white eyes.
"Sea—" several nearby members of the Mercenary team suddenly shouted in unison, and Lin Yi immediately saw Sea roll his eyes back and collapse to the ground.
Suddenly, a dark figure flashed by and caught Sea; it was Jian, whose strength had reached Four-Star.
"It's my turn!" Renesmee said with a raised eyebrow, exuding an undeniable charm. Even Lin Yi, seeing Renesmee before him, felt a special sensation, though he quickly dismissed it. He constantly reminded himself that greed was the greatest sin.
"Protect Renesmee!" Just as Jian helped Sea into the building, the Undead Creatures surged forward like wild horses breaking free from their restraints!
On the military camp's elevated position, dazzling flames erupted as cannons originally mounted on fighter jets were moved inside the camp, demonstrating astonishing lethality. The weaker Undead Creatures were instantly reduced to a mist of black and red under the barrage of these weapons.
However, this first line of defense was ineffective against Undead Creatures with combat power exceeding Two-Star. The Mercenary team often found themselves directly facing these stronger Zombies!
For Zombies above Two-Star, even laser weapons struggled to penetrate their defenses; it was essentially a matter of brute force!
As everyone steadied their defensive positions at Lin Yi's command, they firmly held back the tide of incoming Corrupted Creatures. With no threat from high-level combat power Zombies, each of the Eight-Star Combat Power members defended a direction, making it nearly impossible for the Undead Creatures to breach their lines!
In the next moment, everyone felt an abrupt drop in temperature; even with their high combat power, they could not withstand this chilling intrusion.
The water on the river's surface began to tremble suddenly, appearing as if countless droplets were rolling over slick metal. Then these droplets seemed to be controlled by some terrifying force, rising into the air and gathering together.
The sky, which had begun to show signs of brightness, became dimmer due to the massive accumulation of water droplets.
Then everyone felt as if a howling cold wind from Siberia swept through the air; even their eyelashes began to frost over with white ice.
"Congeal—" A resounding cry echoed in everyone's ears as a fierce wind whipped up ice particles.
Everyone struggled to maintain their footing as the cold wind sliced across their skin like a Sharp Blade. Those at the front lines, including Lin Yi, were closest to Renesmee's attack range and found themselves covered in a layer of frost. From a distance, it looked as if several snowmen had suddenly appeared on the battlefield.
Lin Yi was secretly astonished; he hadn't expected that under favorable conditions, Renesmee's use of Frozen Domain would be so powerful. Even residual effects could cover a person in frost. If it directly hit someone, it could likely freeze even a Three-Star Corrupted Creature!
In the next moment, the howling wind intensified. With narrowed eyes, Lin Yi saw those still attempting to charge forward among the Corrupted Creatures instantly covered in frost and rendered immobile. Yet the power of the frost did not stop there; it spread further afield.
Amidst the gazes of the crowd, frost spread across the river's surface at a visible speed, freezing the three-kilometer-long and several dozen meters wide expanse entirely. Those who had just poked their heads out or were about to attempt to land were instantly encased in ice!
Already accustomed to such scenes, Lin Yi moved swiftly, the frost on him cracking and falling away. With Blade Qi slicing through the air, the once-solidified ice sticks that were Undead Creatures were shattered into countless pieces in an instant!
The others coordinated seamlessly. Almost as soon as Lin Yi began his actions, they activated their movements to the maximum, darting around the powerful Undead Creatures and smashing them all to bits!
Among this group of Corrupted Creatures, there were not a few High-Level Combatants at Six-Star and Seven-Star levels. However, Lin Yi had already locked onto their positions the moment Renesmee unleashed her Frozen Domain. Thus, in almost no time at all, he shattered most of the high-level Undead Creatures into fragments of ice!
Although Frozen Domain affected High-Level Combat Power Corrupted Creatures, its duration was too short; Lin Yi needed to eliminate them immediately.
The once formidable Zombie Army now faced relentless pressure from the Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, with most already dead beyond recovery. The remaining ones were merely putting up a futile resistance; their extermination was only a matter of time.
As Captain, Lin Yi naturally would not waste time battling low-level Corrupted Creatures; he had more important tasks ahead.
Just as Renesmee completed her Frozen Domain, Lin Yi heard Jiao Jiao calling out to him. She informed him that their allies, the First Combat Brigade, were in urgent need of support.
No matter how strong a mercenary group might be, without the help and recognition of a Defense Zone or City Defense Force, they were merely a more powerful armed faction. As Lin Yi's mercenary group relied on others for shelter, he had to show some respect.
Without hesitation, Lin Yi led two Mercenary Squads—two hundred people—straight toward the First Combat Brigade's defensive line. The two camps were less than five kilometers apart, and with his Mercenaries having reached Star-Level Combat Power, they arrived at the center defense position of the First Combat Brigade in under five minutes.
Suddenly, a blood-soaked officer appeared before Lin Yi. This officer looked to be around thirty-five or thirty-six years old, sporting a scruffy beard. His curly hair was matted with blood and hung over his forehead; his eyes were bloodshot and he appeared extremely haggard.
Lin Yi could sense an Eight-Star aura emanating from this person, though it lacked the heaviness typical of those he had encountered before with Eight-Star Combat Power.
"Hello, Captain Lin," the officer said. "I apologize for not being able to visit due to pressing duties. I hope you won't hold it against me; I need your help to get through this crisis!"
The officer wiped his hand on his military uniform in an attempt to clean off some blood before extending his calloused hand toward Lin Yi with an expectant expression.
"Hello, Colonel!" Lin Yi replied. He sensed that there were only two Eight-Star Combat Power ocean creatures present—one was a Blue Whale and another was a massive fish he had never seen before but looked like an ancient species.
Mercenaries worked for pay; there was no talk of altruism here, so Lin Yi would not refuse such an opportunity! He signaled for his team to hurry over and assist since there were also many lower-tier Oceanic Undead present alongside the Eight-Star ocean creatures.
"Let's work together to take down that Bighead Fish first! As for the remaining Eight-Star Combat Power Blue Whale, it's just bluster; please have your soldiers delay it!" Lin Yi quickly formulated a strategy. He realized that aside from this colonel, there wasn't another Eight-Star Combat Power soldier here capable of holding out for long.
The colonel nodded in agreement. "Thank you in advance," he said. Then this officer named Ibn slightly bowed to Lin Yi.
The urgency of the battle left Lin Yi no room for hesitation, and he immediately joined Ibn in the fight. Despite Lin Yi's Blade Qi being incredibly powerful, rivaling that of machine guns, it was utterly ineffective against the Big-Headed Monster Fish. Its head was encased in a shell that resembled diamond; a single strike left no mark whatsoever! Moreover, the head of this Bighead Fish occupied nearly four-fifths of its entire body, with the remaining body and tail making up only one-fifth.
"Its defense is too strong; even the bullets from the machine guns just bounce off. I think under these circumstances, using missiles would be futile as well! Plus, its attack method is quite simple—it has a pouch-like structure beneath its mouth that sprays venom from within. Anyone hit by it is doomed," Ibn said, wiping the sweat streaming down his face as he spoke to Lin Yi.
"Are there no weaknesses?" Lin Yi asked, observing the monstrous fish as it continuously flapped its fins against the water's surface to move. Suddenly, a thin dart shot out, causing several soldiers contaminated by the venom to drop dead.
"Alright then, everyone aim your laser weapons at it; I have a plan!" Lin Yi noticed that the Big-Headed Monster Fish's movement speed was nowhere near that of an Eight Star Level creature; it was even less agile than a Blue Whale of larger size. An idea flashed through his mind.
"That's useless; as soon as it detects large-scale laser weapons locking onto it, it will just dive to the bottom! Plus, the Corrupted Creatures nearby will constantly create mist to interfere with the lasers' power and accuracy!" Ibn exclaimed, slapping his forehead. His weaponry was far superior to Lin Yi's; all of it was state-of-the-art laser equipment, including several large-caliber Laser Cannons.
"How long will it take you to lock on?" Lin Yi asked next, deciding to take a risk.
"Two seconds will be enough!"
"Good. When I fire, you must give the order immediately—no delays!" With that, Lin Yi's figure blurred and vanished from sight.
In the next moment, Lin Yi appeared right in front of the Bighead Fish. Without a moment's thought about this sudden appearance, the Bighead Fish unleashed a spray of venom directly at him.
With a splat, the venom struck Lin Yi's body; however, the Bighead Fish soon realized that it had only hit an illusion—the real Lin Yi had already disappeared elsewhere.
