The energy of the electric net coursed through the entire body of the Blue Whale, leaving it in a state of numbness. Although this was not much of an injury for the Blue Whale, it could only watch helplessly as flames engulfed it completely.
A mournful roar echoed through the river, and everyone could only see a massive cloud of fire trembling on the Water Surface, unable to move violently.
Ibn waved his hand, signaling for concentrated fire from the weapons!
The automatic weapons began to unleash a barrage of fire upon the Blue Whale, which had no strength left to struggle. All firepower focused on one spot, and soon this giant marine creature, now in a state of Corpseification, was completely devoid of life.
Black liquid quickly spread across the river's surface. This liquid, infected with the Zombie Virus, posed an unknown threat to the creatures within the river. Ibn ordered everyone to finish the battle quickly while he faced several High-Level Combat Power Corrupted Creatures head-on, striking them down with thunderous force!
With the two High-Level Combat Power Corpseification beasts no longer restraining them, the High-Level Combat Power members of the First Combat Brigade threw themselves into extermination efforts! Although these Undead Creatures were formidable in their own right, they stood no chance against absolute power.
Blades flashed, Laser Beams fired, and bullets erupted in a fiery display; the battlefield transformed into a hellish scene. Those low-level marine creatures caught off guard were reduced to mere scraps, while high-level ones attempting to break through the defenses were swiftly cut down by several High-Level Combat Power humans working together.
Seeing that the crisis had been resolved, Lin Yi greeted Ibn and took his leave. Ibn assured him that he would express his gratitude once he finished his tasks. Lin Yi believed that in the face of the Zombie Crisis, unity was essential; no one owed anyone anything.
For safety's sake, Lin Yi had brought along a Squad composed entirely of Mercenaries equipped with War God Suits, resulting in no casualties. Upon returning to their camp, everyone was busy cleaning up the aftermath as they burned the bodies of Undead Creatures on-site. The fallen Mercenaries lay in an open area of the military camp.
These Mercenaries who died in battle had initially fought for Contribution Points but had also risked their lives. Thus, they could not be treated lightly. According to regulations, a simple farewell ceremony for their remains was required.
This time, Lin Yi's Mercenary group suffered losses exceeding one hundred, with sixty-eight fatalities. Most casualties occurred early on when they were caught off guard by Eight-Star Combat Power foes. Even though Lin Yi and his team fought desperately to hold them back, many Mercenaries were still killed.
Lin Yi did not hold back regarding the fallen Mercenaries; all personal belongings would be sent back to their families. Additionally, he would allocate one hundred thousand Contribution Points from Blood Envoy's public funds as compensation! For injured soldiers, treatment costs would be covered by the Mercenary group's public funds, and rewards in Contribution Points would be given based on their injuries!
From what Lin Yi understood, other Mercenary groups would not be as generous. Mercenaries earned Contribution Points through their own battles; after submitting a portion, there was little left for themselves. Moreover, fallen Mercenaries received minimal Compensation, and unless under special circumstances, injured ones had to pay out of pocket for their treatment!
Ordinary Mercenaries cannot compare to High-Level Combat Power Mercenaries. After a battle, it is already quite good to survive and earn a thousand Contribution Points! Once injured, if infected by the Zombie Virus, the price of a single Serum could easily deplete a regular Mercenary's earnings for an entire year! It may seem that Mercenaries earn more than the soldiers of the City Defense Force, but they rely on their own efforts, and the risk of death is much higher.
Of course, this is all because these Mercenary groups are too weak and lack the ability to earn large amounts of Contribution Points. Not every Mercenary group has someone like Lin Yi, who does not care about Contribution Points, possesses great strength, and likes to charge ahead. In this way, ordinary Mercenaries have their lives secured; even if they unfortunately fall in battle, they can receive substantial Compensation. There are no lingering worries.
All of this requires Contribution Points, but Lin Yi is not worried. The Contribution Points he earns from slaying Zombies in each battle are enough to cover his considerable expenses.
It's not that Lin Yi doesn't love money; he just doesn't know what to do with too much of it. It's better to share it with everyone and enjoy together.
It was already dawn when several Mercenaries dressed in protective suits began spraying Disinfectant Solution around the military camp while the others took the opportunity to rest.
Although the smell of disinfectant was pungent, compared to the intense stench of decay and blood, it was nothing. Lin Yi helped the other Mercenaries move the bodies of their fallen comrades. Seeing his companions, who had just shared a meal with him not long ago, lying lifeless made Lin Yi feel deeply pained.
Even though he had seen life and death many times and witnessed numerous tragedies, every time he saw his companions die again, he could not suppress the bitterness in his heart. Life is precious, yet it is also fragile. Lin Yi always felt guilty towards these people, believing they died because of him.
Lin Yi worked hard to control his emotions as he arranged for the deceased Mercenaries. He quickly sent someone to purchase the best coffins. He did not have the ability to send everyone back to their hometowns, but at least he wanted to give them a dignified resting place.
To prevent the bodies of these Mercenaries from decaying, Renesmee used Lulu's Dark Energy Healing to cast a wide Frozen Domain that encased the bodies in ice.
Despite having fought through half the night, Lin Yi remained full of energy. Li Qiweng was still asleep, and Lin Yi chose not to disturb her.
However, unexpectedly, someone approached Lin Yi at that moment.
"Can I still call you brother?" A timid girl in her twenties looked at Lin Yi with watery eyes filled with sorrow.
"I'm sorry, Ying Sa." Lin Yi felt a strange sensation in his heart, but he knew it was painful.
Human emotions are peculiar; no one can easily control their feelings. Lin Yi couldn't either. He didn't want to lose Li Qiweng, yet he felt an inexplicable affection for Ying Sa.
Perhaps it was greed, but that feeling was so real that Lin Yi found it hard to manage.
"Apologizing is a very irresponsible thing to say, so I hope you can truly take responsibility. Sister Li Qiweng has never made things difficult for me, and I'm grateful for that. However, I know that in your heart, there is ultimately no place for me, so I must leave."
When Lin Yi heard Ying Sa's last words, he suddenly felt an unbearable sense of loss. It was as if he had lost something important that he could never retrieve. Yet, Ying Sa was right; he had responsibilities. Even if it was just for Li Qiweng, he couldn't harbor any thoughts about Ying Sa.
"Have you contacted your father?" As Lin Yi asked this question, he felt even more guilty towards Ying Sa. She had followed him through so much, yet in the end, she had gained nothing.
"Yes, my dad is in the London Defense Zone. He took a cargo flight at ten this morning. It took a lot of effort to get that ticket," she replied.
As Ying Sa spoke, tears suddenly streamed down her face, though she forced a smile. Lin Yi's heart ached as he raised his hand to wipe away her tears. However, just as his fingers were about to touch her delicate face, they froze in mid-air.
Ying Sa continued to cry softly while smiling faintly at Lin Yi. But the smile on her lips gradually faded until it turned into indifference—a coldness that chilled the heart and carried an underlying chill.
With a "slap," Ying Sa swatted Lin Yi's hand away and turned around. She walked slowly away without looking back.
Lin Yi stood there dazed, watching her solitary figure retreating into the distance. He wanted to chase after her but ultimately closed his eyes instead.
The Earth can spin without anyone, but Lin Yi felt as if he had lost his soul, struggling to find the strength to do anything. Fortunately, Li Qiweng was still asleep; otherwise, he would have surely noticed something was off.
Ying Sa's departure was so decisive that Lin Yi could hardly believe it. The joy of victory could not wash away the sorrow in his heart. His combat prowess had reached a high level, yet he found himself unable to handle matters of love and affection.
Despite his sadness, Lin Yi knew he had to deal with pressing issues. Just as he was about to prepare a simple farewell ceremony for the deceased Mercenary, a lean man arrived at Lin Yi's military camp, accompanied by Ibn. The man stood under five feet seven inches tall but exuded a solid presence.
Lin Yi was well aware of Ibn's strength; the fact that Ibn accompanied this person indicated that rank was irrelevant here—what mattered most was power.
Clearly, this man was a master with combat power exceeding Eight-Star Combat Power! Lin Yi's mental perception was strong, yet he couldn't discern the true strength of this seemingly ordinary Lean Man.
"Captain Lin, I am Zidli, temporarily appointed as the Commander of the Nile Defense Line!" The man extended his hand, though his smile appeared stiff, like a robot with poor craftsmanship.
"Hello, Mr. Zidli. What brings you here?" Lin Yi understood that no one came without reason; he needed to conduct a farewell ceremony for his fallen comrade and wanted to dismiss this visitor quickly.
A flicker of displeasure crossed Zidli's rigid face before he continued, "We have fully understood last night's battle. Captain Lin's combat ability is astonishing. I hope Captain Lin can assist us with something."
"Oh? Your combat power exceeds mine; is there something you cannot accomplish that I can?" While Lin Yi had a good heart, he felt uneasy about helping a stranger who made such demands right off the bat.
"No, you can do it!" Zidli stepped forward, and an overwhelming aura of Nine-Star Level pressure bore down on them in an instant.
