Stubborn people have a flaw; the stronger the opponent, the more they love to resist. Although Lin Yi knew that his opponent possessed Nine-Star Level combat power, as long as he didn't make a move, he still had confidence in his ability to withstand the pressure.
He desperately covered the front of the War God Suit with energy, while Lin Yi unleashed a torrent of Psychic Power, firmly blocking the terrifying sense of oppression brought by the Nine-Star Combat Power. Lin Yi could sense that his opponent was also using Psychic Power to attack him, but strangely, this Psychic Power did not seem very strong.
"Alright, Captain Lin is indeed a young hero; your Psychic Power is truly formidable!" Zidli suddenly held his breath, took a step back, and shouted.
Lin Yi narrowed his eyes; he finally understood that his opponent was testing him. At that moment, he felt like a monkey being toyed with by someone powerful.
"Being strong is my own business. If you have nothing else, Mr. Zidli, I’ll be on my way." With that, Lin Yi prepared to leave directly.
At that moment, a shadow flashed by and blocked Lin Yi's path.
"Captain Lin, this concerns a major operation to eliminate Zombies; I hope you won't refuse." Zidli extended a thin hand in a gesture of obstruction.
"Oh? Are you asking me to help eliminate other Zombies in the Defense Zone?" Lin Yi naturally felt obligated to deal with Zombies, but he was unwilling to be used as cannon fodder.
"It's a collaboration to find a High-Level Combat Power Zombie hidden in the Nile!" Zidli's expression was somewhat strange, giving off an air of caution.
"What level?" Lin Yi knew it couldn't be anything good; if they couldn't even find a Zombie with Nine-Star Combat Power, how could it possibly be weaker?
"It should be at the limit achievable by Nine-Star Level. We haven't seen it ourselves, but it exists. This large-scale Zombie Army Attack is commanded by it! However, it has yet to make a move. While we are on guard against it, we still don't know where it is." Zidli explained slowly. He was preparing to tell Lin Yi that this being might very well be a Ten-Star Level Zombie. But that conclusion was too shocking; after all, battles between Ten-Star Levels hadn't even begun yet!
Lin Yi's heart sank slightly before he grinned and said, "You must be joking. With my strength, even if I were to go die, that Zombie wouldn't even glance at me."
"Captain Lin's reputation has long spread; you shouldn't be so modest," Ibn chimed in at this moment, clearly somewhat annoyed at Lin Yi for not considering the bigger picture.
"We certainly won't let a hero like Captain Lin die easily. In this collaboration, besides you and me, there will also be two other Nine-Star Combat Power individuals assisting! Our mission is to locate the hiding spot of that Zombie and ultimately work together to take it down! I believe three Nine-Star Combat Powers protecting Captain Lin, along with your own impressive strength, should ensure there are no worries!" Zidli's tone softened somewhat; he understood the situation of this young man and felt he shouldn't treat him too lightly.
Lin Yi knew that an invisible knife was now at his throat; whether he agreed or not was no longer up to him.
"Alright then. When do we take action?" Although Lin Yi remained spirited, the exertion of his Psychic Power had drained much of his energy; he naturally needed some rest to recover.
"Tonight, right here in this military camp. We estimate that this Zombie is hiding somewhere in the delta area, so we decided to start searching from the source!"
The farewell ceremony for the body of the Death Mercenary was simple. Lin Yi and Li Qiweng personally carried him into the coffin. Following their respective customs, everyone silently mourned for three minutes. Afterward, they lifted the coffin onto a vehicle, transporting the deceased mercenaries to a tomb built specifically for fallen soldiers at the Nile Defense Command Center. As per Lin Yi's request, their names were engraved on a towering eight-meter stone pillar, alongside a summary of their lives.
In life, these individuals were just ordinary people, and few knew them well. Naturally, Lin Yi did not wish for them to remain anonymous in death. He wanted the world to recognize their contributions; in his heart, they were heroes, and the lives of heroes should not be overlooked.
At that moment, a loud roar suddenly echoed through the air as a massive Transmitter ascended. Lin Yi glanced at his watch; it was exactly ten in the morning. The Transmitter took away the person he was reluctant to part with but had no choice but to let go.
After the ceremony concluded, Lin Yi returned to the military camp to rest. His Psychic Power could not recover through Lulu's dark energy alone; only with rest could his mind slowly recuperate. Since Zidli was testing Lin Yi's Psychic Power, this collaboration made its significance paramount.
Time always seemed to fly during rest periods, and before he knew it, night fell once again. The surface of the Nile River remained as serene as ever, with a gentle breeze caressing his face and ripples dancing across the water.
Yet beneath this calm exterior lay dangers capable of destruction. Lin Yi had arranged to meet Zidli at nine o'clock in the evening, and it had just turned dark. He had nearly recovered but felt a lingering sense of breakthrough in his Psychic Power after each battle; however, there was no progress now.
Having grown accustomed to rapid increases in combat strength, Lin Yi craved powerful abilities even more. Yet such things could not be rushed; he had no understanding of how those with Nine-Star Combat Power achieved their strength since he had not reached that level himself. Moreover, more and more people were breaking through to Star-Level Combat Power, which was itself an odd phenomenon.
Since the outbreak of the Zombie Crisis, despite heavy losses for humanity, individual combat power had bizarrely increased at an astonishing rate. Even though most people's strength relied on drugs and rigorous training, it still defied logic.
"Has she left you behind? Are you still thinking about her?" A faint fragrance wafted into Lin Yi's nostrils, intoxicating him and making him long to embrace her tenderly.
"I'm not thinking about her; once I made my choice, I naturally let go." Lin Yi paused for a moment and turned to look at Li Qiweng's lovely face, warmth flooding through him.
"It's alright; from that reluctant look in your eyes just now, I can tell you have feelings for her. But that's just how you are—always so shy when it comes to matters of the heart."
Li Qiweng spoke lightly, yet no one noticed the fleeting hint of loneliness in her eyes. For anyone who knows that the person they like has feelings for someone else, it is always a painful realization.
Lin Yi felt pain too; he couldn't understand what that feeling was like. Perhaps it was because Li Qiweng wasn't around back then that Ying Sa had stepped into his heart as an emotional supplement. But now Lin Yi didn't want things to be this way; yet matters of the heart could never be deceived.
"I admit you're right; however, time is the best remedy. Before long, even memories will fade." After so many years with Li Qiweng, honesty remained paramount. The cost of hiding one's feelings was constant lying—a burden far heavier than being truthful.
"Fine then; you can forget me and pursue her instead." Once Li Qiweng removed her bright red War God Suit, she became just an ordinary woman who could easily feel jealousy.
"I won't; I know how to prioritize!" If Ying Sa left him, Lin Yi would hurt—but that would only be temporary. However, if Li Qiweng were to leave him, it would be a lifetime of pain.
"What if I died? Then you could go find her!"
Li Qiweng's words left Lin Yi feeling somewhat strange. Perhaps once one delves into the essence of things, the emotions that captivate people are merely superficial. There is no unwavering loyalty, only a balance that feels just right.
Returning to reality, at nine o'clock, Zidli finally appeared. He was accompanied by two others: a middle-aged Bearded Man dressed in typical Nile-style clothing, and surprisingly, a woman in her thirties with a scar several centimeters long across her face, which looked fresh. The woman's otherwise ordinary face had taken on a somewhat fierce appearance due to the injury.
Only Zidli nodded at Lin Yi, while the Bearded Man and the Scar Woman seemed oblivious to Lin Yi's presence, squinting their eyes and remaining silent.
"This time, with the help of the micro-explorers and Mr. Lin Yi's Psychic Power, we hope to uncover and eliminate the true enemy hidden in the Nile. That way, the crisis in the Nile can be resolved!" Zidli said, looking at the seemingly calm waters of the Nile with hopeful eyes.
Lin Yi forced a smile as he recalled the faint Psychic Power fluctuations he sensed last night. He had exerted all his efforts to locate it but found nothing; what good would another attempt do?
Seeing Lin Yi's helplessness, Zidli explained again, "Our collaboration this time will not be in vain. A large number of explorers have already been deployed at the riverbed; this was prepared after we suspected there were High-Level Combatants lurking below. However, to truly identify that High-Level Zombie, we still need your assistance with your Psychic Power!"
The other party had already shown considerable respect, so Lin Yi felt it inappropriate to continue pretending he understood nothing. He gestured for Zidli to proceed, and Zidli activated a Receiver on his wrist, causing a Virtual Display Screen to rise before everyone.
The main image on the display showed the Nile River, extending from its mouth throughout the entire Nile Defense Zone. On the river's surface were numerous red dots—these were the micro-explorers previously deployed by Zidli and his team. The densely packed explorers moved step by step along the riverbed, gradually expanding their range until they clearly concentrated within a ten-kilometer radius of Lin Yi's military camp.
Suddenly, the screen began to flicker wildly as those red dots decreased at an alarming rate!
