In a mountain valley, not far from Lin Yi's army, a distant sigh echoed through the air.
"Are they all dead?" an aged voice asked, tinged with reluctance.
"Yes, Mr. President, we still cannot handle two teams at once," another voice replied, filled with utmost respect.
Silence fell over the mountain valley once more, but just a few seconds later, the old voice continued, "Tell the army to accelerate their march. In five days, I want to cross the Atlantic!"
"Understood!"
...
Lin Yi gradually steadied his mind and returned to his usual clarity. However, the bloodthirsty impulse he had just experienced left a shadow in his heart. Killing was a double-edged sword; it harmed others and oneself.
"It’s better to hold back in the future. You were terrifying just now; it felt like you might even kill your own people," Li Qiweng frowned and suggested a rather impractical solution.
Lin Yi remained silent. He had just entered a state of emptiness where his only action was to continuously slay every enemy before him. The exhilaration of that moment was intoxicating, and Lin Yi found himself lost in it. In the end, he felt he could no longer bear it, but a final thread of clarity in his mind stopped his frenzied actions.
"I will be careful. Advancing too quickly in strength may not be a good thing," Lin Yi finally shook his head and moved closer to the others.
The last remaining man who had not undergone corpseification was now completely awestruck by the blood-soaked Lin Yi, staring at him with trembling lips, unable to speak.
Lin Yi sighed inwardly and gestured for Wu Hao and Pachy to inquire about the man's situation while he himself blurred and vanished from sight.
"Sir, when you were fighting earlier, I detected that your body was in a very strange state," Hei finally spoke once Lin Yi had distanced himself from the crowd.
Lin Yi was taken aback for a moment before asking, "What state? Am I not a demon?"
"Not quite, sir. At that time, you entered a state similar to enlightenment, where you were completely unaware of what was happening in the outside world. Everything was done purely by instinct," Black replied, speaking more slowly this time. It was clear that even though its intelligence was getting closer to that of a human, it still struggled to comprehend such profound concepts.
"What does this state signify?" Lin Yi had already unleashed his Psychic Power, searching for a water source to wash away the dirt on him. He also needed some time alone to reflect.
"Uh... well, I can't say for sure. It should represent your continued improvement in strength, and at a rapid pace," Black continued at a measured pace. "You know that the highest level of combat power currently observed is only at the Nine-Star Level, and those individuals reached this level through their own efforts. Generally speaking, no matter how good the medicine is, it can only cultivate combat power up to the Eight-Star level."
The Nine-Star Level was almost godlike; their most notable feature was the ability to fly in the air. As Bestow Unique Ability users, they possessed this capability as well, so they were not unique in that regard.
Humans could not fly, but those with Nine-Star Combat Power could. In a sense, they had transcended humanity. They had evolved beyond the human state and reached a divine height!
This kind of evolution required an opportunity—something elusive and beyond my understanding. However, you just experienced that feeling; as long as you continue to kill, you might truly break through your current life level and reach a new height!"
Black, as an intelligent program, could not fully grasp such ethereal concepts but shared everything it knew with Lin Yi.
"Haha, I don't want to be a god just yet!" Although Lin Yi secretly desired to reach the Nine-Star Level, hearing Black's words made him feel that achieving such power might mean he would no longer be human.
Suddenly, an image of Water Hollow appeared in Lin Yi's mind. He leaped into action, controlling his War God Suit to shoot toward Water Hollow.
This area had long been occupied by Zombies, but Water Hollow remained relatively clear. Having relaxed his mindset, Lin Yi used his Psychic Power to precisely control a handful of clear water that floated above him and slowly fell like rain.
Soon enough, the water was used up, but the dirt on Lin Yi's body had not been completely washed away. In the next moment, he split his Psychic Power in two—one half drew water from Water Hollow to pour over his head while the other controlled the water source above him to disperse and wash over his body.
"Sir, training your Psychic Power this way can increase its density by one ten-thousandth," Black chimed in with its usual electronic voice.
"Ha ha," Lin Yi chuckled, "If I can persist for ten thousand, my Psychic Power will double from what it is now."
Just as Lin Yi spoke, the clear water above him was not controlled properly and spilled directly onto his head. Controlling Psychic Power to do several different things at once was quite challenging; aside from Douglas, who had specialized Psychic Power Ability, even Lin Yi found it difficult to manage effortlessly.
"If you really can achieve double your current power, your combat strength could easily slay a Nine-Star Zombie using only Psychic Power!" Black understood Lin Yi's strength very well. Although Lin Yi had just entered the Eight-Star Level of combat power, his Psychic Power had already faintly reached the level of Nine-Star.
Lin Yi did not continue speaking; the road ahead was still tough, and he had to keep moving forward. He pressed the earpiece beside him and connected directly to the line of Witerson II.
" Witerson II, hurry up and find any usable water sources nearby. Use as much as you can; we might be facing a fierce battle soon!"
"Understood, boss!" Witerson II never hesitated when it came to Lin Yi's orders.
With a thought, Lin Yi unleashed a faint blue flame from his feet and soared into the air, heading straight for the Cage city he had just left.
Lin Yi still had not grasped the specific situation regarding the Zombies. By the time he returned, Pachy and the others had already completed their interrogation. However, the results were less than satisfactory.
According to the man’s account, they had been captured by Zombies and brought here. Just as Lin Yi had suspected, these people were merely food for the Zombies to replenish their energy. The Zombies provided them with basic survival food to ensure they did not die. However, every so often, one human would disappear without a trace and never return. As long as they did not try to escape, the Zombies would not interfere with them; in fact, when they engaged in intimate activities, the Zombies even showed support.
This was one reason why Lin Yi and his group saw these people sitting naked in a circle in the square—they were expected to mate at any time. Among them circulated a rumor that the Zombies captured them for experiments aimed at creating the strongest Zombie.
Moreover, this rumor seemed credible; there was once a man who had been taken away and never returned. However, later on, someone claimed to have seen this man reappear. But by then, he was already part of the Zombie camp and appeared to lead ordinary Zombies. Due to significant changes in his appearance, even those closest to him found it difficult to determine if he was real or not; thus, it became merely an occasional rumor mentioned by others.
As for recent times, there had been a sudden increase in the number of people captured by Zombies among them. In just a short period, at least ten thousand humans had been taken away by Zombies and never returned.
Hearing this, Lin Yi understood more clearly; those ten thousand missing humans had undoubtedly been sent by the Zombies to serve as cannon fodder against Lin Yi's advancing army.
Lin Yi was taken aback by the situation. The man had introduced the number of Zombies as merely tens of thousands, but the majority of them were quite formidable. Although the man did not understand the classification of combat power, Lin Yi could estimate from his description that those powerful Zombies were at least Star Level or above.
The man was unaware of more details, but Lin Yi immediately opened the holographic map, intently focusing on the various terrains displayed.
At that moment, Jiao Jiao suddenly pushed open Lin Yi's car door, holding an enlarged photograph in her hand.
"Captain, I just discovered something interesting while analyzing satellite intelligence," Jiao Jiao said with a smile, clearly indicating the importance of this information.
Lin Yi took the photograph and examined it closely for several seconds before widening his eyes and asking, "Zombies?"
"Yes, this is the trace of the Zombies we've been unable to locate. They are currently in Azawakh Valley, at least eight hundred kilometers away from us!" Jiao Jiao replied, her brow furrowing as she realized how difficult that distance was to accept.
"Hahaha, it's not a problem if they run far; the real issue is if we can't find them!" Upon learning the whereabouts of the Zombies, Lin Yi showed no hesitation and immediately rushed out of the command center. Hovering in mid-air, he shouted, "In half an hour, our army will set out!"
Five hours later, Lin Yi's entire army had covered nearly a thousand kilometers at an incredible speed. They were now deep within Azawakh Valley, where jagged rocks made progress extremely difficult for the convoy.
Lin Yi paced back and forth, his brow furrowing tightly at times and then relaxing. Finally, as if he had made a firm decision, he shouted, "All members of the War God Squad, follow me and pursue the Zombies with all your might!"
