Lin Yi took the golden plaque, examining it closely. He weighed it in his hands, surprised to find it utterly weightless, unsure of what metal it was made from. Perhaps the value of this metal was high, which reflected the Mercenary Alliance's regard for the Vice Chairman. 0

"The Mercenary Alliance works quickly," Lin Yi chuckled. "Just an hour ago, I heard they were still in the deliberation stage. I didn't expect that by the time I arrived, it would already be approved!" He casually placed the plaque into the pocket of his War God Suit, ensuring he wouldn’t lose it. 0

Wang Zijun looked a bit embarrassed as she said, "Actually, the results were just announced ten minutes ago. I only found out recently. My father asked me to come greet you and share this good news." 0

Lin Yi felt relieved; Wang Zijun's earlier demeanor hadn’t been so respectful. It turned out that at that time, he wasn’t yet the Vice Chairman. 0

If there were any benefits to rank and status, Lin Yi realized he would at least receive more respect. 0

"Let’s head into the city!" Lin Yi suggested, feeling that the outside world was too dangerous. Although their strength had significantly increased, he had just experienced a terrifying ordeal in midair, and his Psychic Power had yet to fully recover. He still felt quite fatigued. 0

Wang Zijun nodded and immediately signaled for the City Defense Force to open the gates. Her family held considerable influence in Australia; one of her older brothers was a senior officer in the City Defense Force. During this Zombie Crisis, her family had been fighting for their country. 0

Half an hour later, Lin Yi's War God Squad was settled in properly. Before leaving, Wang Zijun informed Lin Yi to rest well and that there would be a simple welcome banquet in the evening. She hoped both Lin Yi and Li Qiweng could attend. 0

Lin Yi recognized this as an opportunity to meet high-ranking officials in Australia and readily agreed. 0

At this time of year, the Southern Hemisphere was still at the end of winter. It got dark early, and after resting for half an hour, Lin Yi walked around in the private courtyard assigned to him to stretch his muscles. He felt remarkably relaxed and alert, a sensation he had never experienced before, as if he had become one with nature. 0

"My dear, the air here is so fresh," Li Qiweng said, having appeared beside Lin Yi without him noticing. She leaned against his shoulder and rubbed her sleepy eyes. At that moment, she resembled a lazy cat—gentle and obedient—which captivated Lin Yi completely. 0

"Yes, if only it could always be like this. Nothing compares to a peaceful life," Lin Yi replied thoughtfully. He reflected on ideals and heroism but ultimately desired nothing more than to live quietly as an ordinary person; that felt like the most grounded pursuit of all. 0

"Unfortunately, I will have to be quite hypocritical again soon, facing the simplest yet most complex human relationships in this world." 0

Lin Yi glanced at the time; it was getting late. He summoned a car that had been prepared for the two of them and set off toward their destination. 0

Moments later, they arrived in front of a building reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture. The towering stone columns exuded an indescribable majesty, and faint music could be heard in the background. 0

Lin Yi and Li Qiweng exchanged smiles before stepping inside. The doorman seemed to have received instructions, leading them directly into the hall without verifying their identities. 0

Inside the hall, dozens of people were moving about. Amidst the interplay of light and shadow, several familiar figures appeared. On one side of the hall, there was even a performance area where a conductor was gently waving a baton, as if guiding someone on how to begin their first experience with tenderness. 0

"Lin Yi, it's only been less than two years, and you've already become so powerful!" a deep male voice broke the silence of the hall. 0

"Nock, you've changed a lot too; you've gotten fatter," Lin Yi chuckled, extending his hand to shake the slightly plump palm, feeling a wave of emotion. 0

After all, things have changed; or perhaps he truly could not return to the past. In just two years, Nock had aged considerably, with several strands of white hair appearing at his temples. Lin Yi wondered what he had been busy with during this time. 0

"You’re still as poor as ever!" Nock patted Lin Yi on the back and then glanced at Li Qiweng. "Still taking your wife around the world to fight zombies? You really don’t know how to cherish someone." 0

Lin Yi scratched his head, looking somewhat bashful like a child meeting an elder. "Section Chief, I didn’t want this either; Wen has suffered alongside me. But soon enough, we’ll be able to live a stable life!" 0

"Do you think living a stable life is that easy? As long as we can't truly solve the Zombie Virus problem, this world will never find peace!" Nock's expression darkened, his brows furrowing as if countless worries weighed heavily upon him. 0

"So what have you been doing during this time?" 0

"What else could I do? Initially, I thought the source of the zombies was our laboratory. I spent half a year in prison for that. It wasn't until they found out about the traitor that I was released! But during this time, I've still been doing my old work—researching these biochemical viruses. Australia was supposed to be a pristine land; I came here for scientific research but never expected..." 0

Lin Yi chatted with Nock for over ten minutes and gained a rough understanding of how he had been spending his days. Besides feeling guilty, Nock was constantly researching ways to combat the Zombie Virus. 0

However, this virus was not caused by the laboratory he was responsible for, so most of his research felt like running in circles. Yet, his studies were not entirely directionless; he had at least determined that the virus did not originate from Earth. This significantly narrowed down the search range, as they could at least rule out individuals who had records of contact with extraterrestrial objects. 0

Unfortunately, because this virus was not of Earthly origin, it was even more challenging to study. They could only use the process of elimination to determine which type of extraterrestrial material it might have come from. 0

Currently, according to Nock's assessment, all recorded foreign objects on Earth had been ruled out without discovering anything unusual, which rendered Nock's efforts seemingly meaningless once again. 0

Once Lin Yi finished his conversation with Nock, Marin slowly approached. Lin Yi felt that in the two years since they last met, Marin had changed quite a bit. No longer the shy student he once was, Marin wore a calm smile and confidently extended his hand for a handshake. 0

"Boss, long time no see!" Marin's slicked-back hair reflected a bright light, causing Lin Yi to squint slightly. 0

"Marin, you've grown up," Lin Yi said as he patted Marin on the back. He sensed something strange about Marin; it felt as if he were being watched by an ancient evil entity. 0

"Hey, the boss is smiling! With you around, I'll always be your little brother," Marin's expression suddenly shifted back to that of an innocent student without a hint of scheming. 0

Lin Yi glanced around; besides them, Wang Zijun and others were present but were currently engaged in laughter with a middle-aged man and hadn't noticed what was happening over here. 0

"Oh right, boss! Before I came here, I visited your parents. They're just as usual and doing quite well!" Marin said, tapping his head. 0

"I think you're just thinking about Aunt Wang's cooking. Otherwise, why would you be so eager to visit them?" Li Qiweng chuckled softly. She was familiar with Lin Yi's colleagues and had often encountered them when visiting Lin Yi's parents for meals. 0

"Well, it was just a casual visit. The boss is out there working hard for his career; as your little brother, I naturally have to show respect to your parents," Marin replied sheepishly after being "exposed" by Li Qiweng. 0

"Long time no see, thank you anyway, Marin." A wave of sadness surged in Lin Yi's heart; he had been so busy dealing with Zombies these days that he had truly neglected his family. 0

"Marin has this one good trait; he knows how to treat people well. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been allowed to go home for a visit this time. You know, applying for a plane ticket now is really harder than it was when airplanes were first invented!" Nock chuckled, his large belly shaking, but his eyes were filled with appreciation for Marin. 0

Lin Yi nodded in agreement. "Yes, Marin is smart; he was able to propose very reasonable suggestions back then." 0

"Exactly, thanks to him, our research has made progress; otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to attend this banquet," Nock's smile faded slightly. What he had gone through during this time was a myriad of emotions that perhaps only he understood. 0

At that moment, Wang Zijun and her group finally noticed Lin Yi's arrival. They saw her speaking a few words to a middle-aged man surrounded by a crowd before approaching with their glasses raised. 0

"I apologize for not noticing Chairman Lin had already arrived. I didn't expect Chairman Lin to be as young as the rumors say; it seems my eyes are failing me," the leading middle-aged man laughed heartily as he strode over. 0

Lin Yi instinctively prepared to assess the man's strength but found it impossible to see through him; this person was definitely not ordinary! 0

"This is..." Lin Yi's gaze fell on Wang Zijun. The woman wore a strapless purple gown, her lips adorned with bright red lipstick and her makeup delicately applied. Though not yet twenty, she exuded a refreshing yet mature allure. 0

"This is Mr. Albert, the Prime Minister of Australia!" Wang Zijun's eyes narrowed slightly with a flirtatious smile. 0

Lin Yi quickly searched his mind for information about Mr. Albert but regrettably realized he hadn't paid attention to such details. He had always thought he would meet Wang Zijun's father, the First Speaker of the Pacific Theater, at this gathering. 0
