The day after Lin Yi was elected as the President of the Alliance, Wang Kai delivered some bad news: the entire Australia had been overrun by Zombies, and the last remnants of Resistance had retreated to a small island near New Zealand. This Resistance was the final bastion of hope for the entire Southern Hemisphere. The unfolding situation seemed to sound an alarm for Lin Yi, leaving him no time to ponder personal matters. At that moment, Cook had also vanished, and all responsibilities of the Mercenary Alliance suddenly fell on his shoulders. With Zombies closing in, Lin Yi—and humanity—had no way out.
In Antarctica, there were still millions of human survivors, but their defensive forces were far too weak. After much deliberation, Lin Yi decided to mobilize the entire Golden Mercenary Corps to serve as a defensive force in Antarctica and to contest the initiative against the Zombies in the Southern Hemisphere. After enduring the Second Zombie Crisis, the Golden Mercenary Corps had fewer than ten thousand members across all branches—though these were elite fighters. However, many of their top members had been killed due to Zombie attention; Beatrice, who had previously collaborated with Lin Yi, was killed early in the crisis, and even the Commander of the Golden Mercenary Corps had fallen, resulting in significant losses for the mercenary group.
Lin Yi, once known as the Mercenary King, had been hunted worldwide but managed to escape. After reorganizing the Golden Mercenary Corps, he appointed Elisa as its highest commander. However, before departing, Elisa's sorrowful gaze made Lin Yi uneasy. To avoid affecting combat effectiveness, he whispered a few words in her ear. Initially reluctant, Elisa ultimately left for Antarctica with a smile. What Lin Yi told her remained a secret known only to them.
Ying Sa was most curious about this matter; however, no matter how she asked, Lin Yi merely smiled and said it was just a simple promise. The situation in Antarctica was not solely Lin Yi's concern but also that of the Resistance. Surprisingly, Aibolon—the father of Charlie—was now the highest commander of the Resistance. It was expected news; however, it was said that Charlie had not escaped and was currently imprisoned in a castle in North America. Reflecting on this former companion brought a sigh from Lin Yi; if not for Charlie leaving a backdoor for Little Black, many things might have changed drastically.
In Human Camp, aside from the Mediterranean region serving as a significant foothold, other areas were left with only isolated Resistance forces fighting alone. Although previous Christmas offensives had yielded some results, it was clearly insufficient. With New Year approaching, the Resistance proposed another offensive—an excuse more than anything else. Aibolon must be anxious; battles across various fronts had seen little progress while Zombie forces continued to grow stronger. Many even began to embrace Zombie ideologies about an "Eternal Kingdom," actively siding with them—a tragic turn for human society where former enemies united against them.
Even more surprising for Lin Yi was that Sophia—who shared a fleeting romance with him—had become a spokesperson for the Zombies at Paris Fortress, tirelessly promoting their rhetoric to the point where some misled individuals believed Zombies were humanity's saviors. All these developments forced the Resistance to hasten their attack plans; they felt obligated to reclaim a world lost through their hands.
As December 31st, 2043 approached, Lin Yi convened with his senior leaders and confirmed plans for a full-scale landing attack from Normandy on January 1st, 2044! This date held significance but could not be taken lightly in war. Normandy was close to Great Britain Island where another mercenary group lay hidden. For Lin Yi and his team, they could easily mobilize thousands at his command without facing landing difficulties. More importantly, Zombie forces were primarily concentrated around the Mediterranean; thus attacking those areas would be ill-advised while Normandy's defenses appeared relatively weaker.
By the time all plans were finalized, it was already late at night. Despite his immense strength, Lin Yi felt waves of mental fatigue wash over him as he returned to his estate under pressure. Ying Sa lay on the sofa in a silk robe with a smile on her face as she watched him approach. The moment he saw her cheerful demeanor lifted his spirits; he quickly moved beside her and embraced her tightly while removing her last piece of clothing.
Ying Sa’s finely sculpted body revealed itself before him—a tempting sight that stirred something deep within him and dispelled his fatigue entirely. As he drew closer with heavy breaths, Ying Sa raised her delicate hand to stop him and said softly, “Not now; we have a sister.”
“Sister?” Lin Yi paused before realizing she was gently caressing her abdomen with a smile that radiated warmth and tranquility—an expression that made him cautious not to overlook anything.
“Ah…” He took a deep breath and instinctively grabbed her discarded clothing to cover her again. “What do you mean…?”
“Fool! You’re going to be a dad!” Ying Sa blushed deeply after saying this and shyly buried her head into his chest as soft light reflected on her face.
“When did you find out?” Instead of feeling joy at becoming a father, Lin Yi’s mind raced back to what Cook had said before leaving. Now that Ying Sa was having a child, everything became complicated.
Ying Sa looked up at him with slight disappointment but remained immersed in maternal joy as she explained: “My friend didn’t come today; you’ve been in meetings all day so I got bored and tested myself—I found out I’m pregnant! It’s only been a month but according to tests… it should be a girl!”
Lin Yi’s mind buzzed with thoughts; he regretted meeting Cook and hadn’t fully processed what Ying Sa said.
“What’s wrong? Don’t you want a daughter? We can always try for a son…” Ying Sa noticed something off about him and jumped off his lap angrily; her bright eyes glimmered with tears ready to spill.
“No… no… I like both…” Lin Yi realized he had lost composure but truly didn’t know how to address this situation; now that Ying Sa was pregnant, time was no longer on his side.
“Then why do you look so unhappy? Is it because of Elisa?” Ying Sa huffed angrily as she jumped down from him; Lin Yi quickly steadied her fearing something might happen.
“Don’t go to tomorrow’s battle at Normandy; stay here and take care of yourself until I return,” he urged softly.
“Where could be safer than being by your side?” Ying Sa looked up at him with an uneasy feeling—perhaps due to an instinctive sixth sense women possess.
Seeing Ying Sa nestled against him made Lin Yi sigh deeply; he ultimately relented without further argument—accepting that she would accompany him after all.
The Normandy battle was set for midnight Greenwich Mean Time when Zombie forces would be weakest—though this only applied relatively since powerful Zombies remained largely unaffected while ordinary ones might show some vulnerability.
Lin Yi didn’t fall asleep until late into the night and woke up around ten o'clock before leisurely having breakfast with Ying Sa until five minutes before noon when he announced assembly.
This time not only included Lin Yi’s original Blood Sky Mercenary Group but also Wang Zijun leading the Pacific Mercenary Corps alongside Wang Kai and his son Wang Bo—an immensely powerful force gathered together.
With nearly ten thousand troops assembled, Lin Yi worked hard to create enough entry points into his Absolute Space for them all. Beforehand he had notified Zhao Pei to hide carefully; however later movements after Ouyang Shasha entered raised suspicions from experts like Wang Kai—but thankfully Lin Yi managed to dispel any doubts without revealing that he hid a Zombie within his Absolute Space.
As soon as the clock struck twelve at Big Ben marking midnight, Lin Yi led his elite mercenaries into Normandy where they swiftly swept away ordinary Zombies surrounding them like thunderbolts—taking down several small fortifications guarding captives along the way.
In just over a minute after their arrival, main Zombie forces finally rushed over from Paris Fortress—at least thirty thousand High-Level Zombies darkening the sky ahead with an intimidating presence.
