The colors of dawn had brightened, and the temperature in the desert was steadily rising. The group was now less than a hundred kilometers from the edge of the desert. If they could just hold on a little longer, they would escape the nightmare that was Wasteland Prison.
A soft sound echoed as a frail figure suddenly collapsed into the bushes.
"Sir!"
Ye Yu witnessed this scene and immediately jumped out of the mech. After a few quick strides, he reached the frail figure, who was none other than Huang Laowai. Ye Yu cradled him in his arms, his eyes filled with urgency as he called out, trembling slightly, "Sir, wake up!"
Before Ye Yu could call out a second time, Huang Laowai's closed eyes slowly opened, revealing a faint smile—a knowing smile that came after finally addressing a long-held concern.
"I'm not dead yet; I just exhausted too much energy and need to rest," Huang Laowai said before closing his eyes again, falling silent.
Ye Yu looked at Huang Laowai's once aged face, now extremely pale from overexertion, and his heart sank. Could it be that he had died?
Suddenly, a loud snore erupted from Huang Laowai's nostrils. Ye Yu was momentarily stunned but quickly realized what had happened and adjusted the old man's sleeping position.
After taking care of that, Ye Yu stood up and walked a few steps to where the Robed Woman lay. At that moment, Major Bai was unconscious, while the burly man beside her appeared exceptionally pale from blood loss, as if he might collapse at any moment.
Jani crouched next to the Robed Woman, glancing between the unconscious Major Bai and the pale burly man, her face filled with concern.
Then Ye Yu seemed to remember something suddenly and turned back to the cockpit of the mech, retrieving a white box from inside.
"There are medicines in here; help stop their bleeding!" Ye Yu exclaimed as he pulled out a pile of medical supplies and placed them in front of the three individuals. Each mech was equipped with emergency medical supplies, which were now coming in handy.
Ye Yu glanced at the situation and took out a healing agent to help the burly man stop the bleeding from a massive wound on his chest. He then used dissolvable bandages to secure the severed arm and found a metal rod to stabilize the fracture, suspending it beneath the man's neck. After completing these tasks, Ye Yu handed the man several pills to help replenish his lost blood.
As for Major Bai, he was being treated by the Robed Woman, who injected him with a dose of adrenaline from the medical kit. However, Major Bai's arm was nearly shattered, especially at the shoulders where broken bones protruded from his skin, exposing white fragments of bone. Even in his unconscious state, the pain on his face was evident.
Beyond external injuries, Major Bai suffered significant internal damage from the immense impact; if not treated promptly, it could lead to infection. Although he had received an injection of adrenaline, it would only temporarily boost his bodily functions and keep him alive for a short time.
Given their unique identities, even if they escaped the desert, it was uncertain whether any hospital would be willing to treat them.
"We need to negotiate with the Federation!" Anger flashed across the Robed Woman's face as she looked at the mechs in the distance, her expression cold. Ten years ago, during her first mission in the Federation, she had been captured after a failure. Now, with Major Bai in critical condition and the burly man severely injured, her composure was wearing thin under this series of blows.
Ye Yu sighed lightly as he noticed the old man hidden among the bushes snoring softly. Their group was undeniably strong in combat capability, yet they had already suffered severe losses before even leaving the desert. If four more mechs were to arrive now, they would likely face catastrophic casualties.
"Alright, I should be able to contact them through the mech. I'll give it a try," Ye Yu nodded. As a member of Arrow Camp, he knew that this was far from being the strongest force on this planet; those terrifying shadows reappeared in his mind. He had to resolve their predicament as quickly as possible; otherwise, they would face dire consequences.
Just as Ye Yu stood up, his figure blurred and he appeared ten meters away in an instant. He didn't even realize that he could cover such a distance so quickly; this was merely his usual walking speed.
Under Jin Shan's control, the mech's hatch opened directly. Ye Yu leaped inside and activated the communicator. He knew these mechs had a special channel to communicate with their base; as a former member of Special Forces, he was extremely familiar with it.
"Old Black, hello! This is Ring Mountain!"
Just as Ye Yu activated the communicator, a greeting came from inside the cockpit; clearly, a duty officer at the base was speaking with Old Black.
As for Ring Mountain, it was likely a military code name for their base; such code names were generally not fixed to prevent espionage from stealing military secrets.
Ye Yu knew that when the other party asked like this, he needed to respond with their internal code; otherwise, they would not acknowledge him as "Old Black." Of course, he was not "Old Black," nor did he need to impersonate him.
"I am Ye Yu, and I want to negotiate with your leader!" Ye Yu steadied his mind slightly and directly stated his purpose.
The other party fell silent for a few seconds, seemingly trying to confirm whether his statement was indeed the correct code. After repeating it several times, he realized that the other party was no longer "Old Black"!
"Please hold on; I'll contact our Team Leader right away!" The person on the other end of the line clearly faced this situation for the first time, as he didn't even utter a few threatening words and simply agreed to Ye Yu's request!
Ye Yu did not wait long before a deep, resonant voice came through the communicator: "You are Ye Yu? Is Huang Laowai with you?"
"Huang Laowai?" Ye Yu repeated, momentarily unable to grasp who the other party was referring to.
"That old guy with the broken leg!" The other party clearly harbored a strong dislike for Huang Laowai, his tone filled with resentment. Even through the device, Ye Yu could sense the anger on his face.
"Oh? You know him?" Ye Yu's tone reflected his displeasure. He held great respect for Huang Laowai and would not tolerate any disrespect towards him.
"Hmph, I don't care who you are. Right now, you don't have the qualifications to negotiate with us. If you want to talk, bring your esteemed gentleman over!"
The other party snorted coldly, his tone dripping with disdain. However, Ye Yu still detected a hint of trepidation in his words. He pondered deeply about what the old man had done all those years ago that still lingered in their minds after so many decades!
