Ye Yu took a moment to calm his emotions. The feeling of life and death still lingered in his mind, as if he had truly experienced it.
Realizing this, Ye Yu felt a chill run down his spine. He had previously used Mental Power to control others' thoughts and believed he had reached a certain level of understanding regarding illusions. However, he never expected that a simple lesson could plunge everyone into an endless illusion of slaughter!
“How did you do it?” Ye Yu glanced around; most people were still trapped in the illusion, prompting him to ask instinctively.
“The reason each illusion occurs is that there is already a certain foundation for those illusions in your minds. Coupled with an appropriate level of confusion, you become unable to distinguish between reality and illusion, thus falling into it and unable to extricate yourselves,” Professor X explained gently, ignoring Ye Yu's somewhat unreasonable attitude. A faint smile even appeared on his lips.
“What a realistic illusion! I thought I was doomed!” Xia Chiu patted his chest, still shaken.
These individuals were all intelligent people, and at this moment, they had fully awakened from the influence of the illusion. However, seeing those around them still entrapped in the illusion brought expressions of anxiety to their faces. The threat of death was truly terrifying; no one wanted to experience it again.
“When you saw the star map, did you feel a sense of familiarity?” Professor X continued as he noticed that everyone was recovering.
“Yes, when I first saw it, I felt like I had seen it somewhere before. Then I started recalling, and eventually saw those people…” Wang Jiu shook his head, seemingly confused about what was happening.
Upon hearing Professor X's question, Ye Yu instinctively nodded. The reason the illusion felt so real was due to its basis in actual scenes. At that moment, Ye Yu used Mental Power to guard his mind and looked again at the star map, only to realize that it no longer resembled what he had seen before.
Now, the star map appeared spiral-shaped in Ye Yu's eyes, resembling a constantly rotating windmill. After gazing at it for just a few moments, he felt as if he were being drawn into this spiral nebula.
“This image… can affect one's mental state,” Ye Yu exhaled slowly. He let Mental Power roam through his mind once more, and clarity returned instantly.
“I didn't expect you all to come out too!”
Before Professor X could say anything further, a somewhat reluctant voice rang in Ye Yu's ear.
“Hmph, don’t think that just because you’re Peak that others are truly incapable,” Nasha said with a hint of pride as she raised her beautiful brow and puffed out her ample chest.
“Nasha, I won’t take credit for someone else’s achievements and act so self-righteous about it,” Peak said, squinting at Nasha with a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.
“You…” Nasha, proud and haughty, felt her cheeks flush with anger at Peak's words. She plopped down into a chair, ignoring him completely.
“Alright, Peak, don’t think I don’t know how you broke through my illusion!”
X, a military veteran, was well aware of Peak’s identity but showed no concern. The assessment was meant to test the students' abilities, yet Peak had managed to break the illusion first using an external object, which naturally left X feeling displeased. He hadn’t expected that someone would give such a life-saving item to Peak so early on.
“Kill—”
At that moment, a heart-wrenching scream suddenly echoed through the classroom, followed by a loud noise as a student abruptly stood up from their seat.
“Whew—” Ouyang Yi stood up, his eyes bloodshot, his expression a mix of anger and confusion, both sorrowful and relieved.
“…An illusion?” It took Ouyang Yi three full seconds to snap out of his daze.
Having just been trapped in an illusion, he had desperately tried to break free. However, facing the approaching figures in black, his options had dwindled. In the end, he had no choice but to unleash his most desperate move against the enemy. Only then did he realize he was standing in front of his seat, all previous scenes vanished.
“Hahaha, this truly is an era of blooming talents! I never expected so many people to awaken from their illusions in such a short time,” Professor X exclaimed as he clapped his hands upon seeing Ouyang Yi awake. He knew that Ouyang Yi had managed to break free through his own strength.
As soon as X finished speaking, another student awoke from the illusion. Ye Yu glanced at the person and realized he didn’t recognize them; however, their bright red hair left a strong impression on him.
Before Professor X could approach, a petite girl with short hair suddenly stood up from her seat. But in the next moment, she completely regained her senses and slowly sat back down, her face pale.
…
Ten minutes later, no one else had awakened from the illusion. Professor X returned to the podium and surveyed the room.
"Come back—come back—come back—"
A voice that seemed to echo from the depths of a dark valley resonated in the ears of Ye Yu and the others. This voice was incredibly long and filled with power, as if it would never fade away, reverberating repeatedly in everyone's ears.
The students awakened from the illusion displayed various expressions: some were resolute in facing death, others were panicked, some were filled with rage, while others remained cold and indifferent. However, each face bore a common emotion—despair. In the face of absolute power, even the bravest and most reckless individuals would feel a sense of hopelessness.
After several minutes had passed, these students finally emerged from their complex emotions. Each one looked at their classmates with lingering fear, their mental states unconsciously shifting. After all, they had just experienced life and death—a feeling that was hard to erase.
"I am very pleased today that many of you managed to awaken from the illusion on your own. I believe many of you have guessed that this is part of your assessment. As for how you performed, you should have a clear understanding," Professor X said, looking at the young faces below him, a genuine smile appearing on his ageless face.
"According to the usual rules, the first student to emerge from my illusion should be this assessment's top performer!" Professor X paused for a moment, scanning the crowd before continuing, "So who is this year's top performer?"
"Of course it's Peak!"
As soon as Professor X's words fell, a tall and thin boy standing next to Peak rose and pointed at him. "Brother Peak broke through Professor X's illusion in just one minute! Who could possibly be better than him?"
Peak remained silent upon hearing this; he merely looked at everyone with an expression of determination.
"Of course there are those who are better!"
Professor X spoke almost word by word. As soon as he finished speaking, the previously quiet students erupted into buzzing discussions, eagerly awaiting the outcome.
