"Professor, I don't understand. I was the first to wake up, so why am I not in first place?" Peak raised his slender eyebrows, a flicker of dissatisfaction crossing his face, but it was quickly concealed.
X seemed to either not hear Peak's words or simply did not want to explain anything to him.
"This illusion task was developed by me and several colleagues skilled in mental manipulation. As for its power, I am well aware. To break through this illusion using Mental Power requires at least a mid-level Stellar rank! Similarly, physical skills can also break through with strength, but the level of physical skills must reach at least Fifth Stage or higher!
Of course, I know that none of you here have demonstrated the ability to break the illusion. However, many succeeded, and one student’s performance surprised me even more. Not only did he successfully break the illusion himself, but he also brought four others out of it.
I just checked, and they happen to be a team! So according to the usual rules, the first one out, Peak, should be at the top. But now I want to award first place to this student and his team.
You are all students of a military academy and should understand the importance of teamwork. You should also know that when a comrade entrusts their back to you on the battlefield, you have an obligation to protect them."
X looked around and continued, "I wonder if anyone disagrees with this decision?"
"Professor, I disagree!" Peak gritted his teeth and stood up. "Since this is a battlefield, methods are secondary; victory is what matters most. I was the first to wake from the illusion, regardless of how I did it; the result is that I won!"
"Even if you were the first out, you lost the soul of your entire team. Do you truly believe that is acceptable?"
X shook his head without further explanation. Peak was a smart person and naturally understood the professor's meaning. He just couldn't accept it; in life-and-death situations, wasn't preserving one's own life the most important thing?
"Alright, today's class ends here. Class dismissed!" Professor X announced without further ado. After dismissing the class, he waved at Ye Yu and said, "Come with me to receive your reward for being first."
Ye Yu nodded and exchanged greetings with other members of his team. Then he stood up and walked toward the podium, feeling the gazes of those around him—some filled with jealousy, some with envy, and others offering congratulations.
The library was located at the southwest corner of the First Military Academy, a place that the students preferred to call the Art Garden. The architectural style of this library building was a mainstream style from before the establishment of the Federation, giving the entire structure a heavy sense of history. It felt as if one had traversed through millennia, arriving in an era before interstellar civilization.
The Art Garden lay behind a grove of maple trees, with a path leading to it paved with blue stones, wide enough for only a single hover bike. At this moment, due to class time, there were not many people visiting the library, and the path was quite tranquil.
Ye Yu walked along the stone path, following Professor X at a leisurely pace deeper into the secluded area. Whether it was due to the environment or some other reason, Ye Yu gradually felt an increasing calmness within, as if his heart were an ancient well, undisturbed.
After a while, the two finally arrived at the entrance of the library. Before them stood an imposing complex of buildings. The structures were not tall; the highest among them was only about nine stories. Most of the rooftops were adorned with light yellow glazed tiles, occasionally accented by tiles of other colors. Each building featured eaves intricately carved with mythical beasts. The bases were made of thick blue stone, giving the entire style a solemn and profound appearance.
The complex was enclosed by a yellow wall, and Ye Yu and Professor X stood at the entrance. Above the grand doors were nine powerful characters inscribed: First Military Academy Museum. These characters were written in an artistic font of the Federation and were said to have been penned by a scholarly dean many years ago after a night of heavy drinking. As for why that dean chose to write these words, only he would know.
"Let's go in!"
There were no security measures at the door. Professor X walked in slowly with his hands behind his back, and Ye Yu followed closely behind him. Upon entering, a path paved with white jade stones led directly to the main building, and without hesitation, Professor X headed straight toward the tallest nine-story structure.
The library was very quiet; both of them had good control over their bodies and walked without making any sound. After several minutes, they reached the entrance of the main building.
The first floor was a large reading room where many students were engaged in studying various types of information. Most of this information pertained to knowledge belonging to the First Military Academy and could not be copied by students.
Professor X did not stop his pace but turned into a long corridor. After rounding a corner, a spiral staircase resembling wood appeared before Ye Yu. Professor X stepped up, and Ye Yu followed closely behind.
"Ninth Floor!" After saying this, Professor X continued upward without pausing.
Ye Yu opened his mouth but ultimately decided not to ask anything, continuing to follow along. Just as the two of them reached the Ninth Floor, an unsettling sensation crept over them, like a prickling on their backs. This feeling came quickly but also faded just as fast.
Upon reaching the rooftop, Ye Yu noticed someone lying at the entrance. More precisely, the person was sprawled on a lounge chair, wearing a cap that obscured their face, making it impossible to discern their features.
"Old Li, I'm here to borrow a book!" Professor X said with a furrowed brow, sounding somewhat helpless.
At that moment, a lazy voice emerged from beneath the cap: "Verify your identity."
X nodded and immediately shifted his gaze toward the entrance. As a faint red light flickered, the previously closed metal door slowly opened.
"Let's go; we don't have much time." With that, X vanished in a flash.
Ye Yu quickly followed him inside and soon realized how different the Ninth Floor was. It was not the Federation's traditional electronic reading room but rather filled with dense wooden bookshelves, reminiscent of layouts from ages past. The entire floor was lined with endless rows of bookshelves, arranged neatly like soldiers in formation.
"The war between the Federation and the Empire has lasted for a thousand years, consistently portraying the Empire as barbaric. However, we all know the wonders of Imperial Martial Arts. Naturally, such matters cannot be openly acknowledged. So even though we've collected quite a bit of the Empire's martial arts over the millennium, we dare not upload them to the Federation's network center.
To prevent any malicious dissemination by certain individuals, the Federation's martial arts manuals are preserved solely in paper format. Yet, even after a thousand years of collection, there are very few genuine core techniques from the Empire among them." X seemed to recall something and smiled wryly.
