Ye Yu rubbed his eyes, feeling somewhat unaccustomed to the real environment. Sometimes, he even questioned whether he truly existed or if he was merely a string of virtual numbers. Of course, such thoughts only flickered through his mind; after all, even a string of numbers has its own value of existence.
"Did we really win just like that?" Xia Chiu asked, unable to believe that they had achieved victory in less than half an hour.
"Yeah... everyone worked hard!" Ye Yu said, rubbing his arm, which still felt sore. The sensation of being hit by the Laser Beam had been too real; even after leaving the virtual environment, he could still faintly feel the burning pain.
The display screen in the compartment showed their victory, confirming that they had successfully passed the first round of the elimination match. With such results, according to the regulations of the First Military Academy, they had achieved a guaranteed passing score.
"In the next round of assessments, we'll receive some basic tactical equipment. It might not be so easy then!" Chen Tang pinched the bridge of his nose. Although they had smoothly passed the first hurdle this time, it had taken quite a toll on him mentally. He also had some doubts about how Ye Yu managed to eliminate half of the opposing team and successfully lure them into their ambush.
"Let's take a break; the next round of assessments starts in two hours!" Ye Yu squinted his eyes. He knew that he might lose his advantage regarding the terrain in the next round, so he needed to rest well to face the upcoming challenges.
"Boss, how did you manage to attract them to our ambush after I left? It seems like you took out quite a few of them yourself?" Wang Jiu, who had previously gathered intelligence with Ye Yu, was puzzled. Given that everyone was just ordinary people, he couldn't fathom how Ye Yu accomplished it.
Ye Yu smiled and scratched his nose. "It was quite a coincidence. I discovered a Quicksand Area nearby and led them into a Quicksand Trap. Since they weren't familiar with this place and were caught off guard, most of them ended up sinking..."
...
The second round of assessments took place in the Demon Realm Planet area again, but it was not in the same region as Ye Yu's team had faced before. This time, Ye Yu's team still consisted of thirty-seven members, but their weaponry had significantly improved. They were equipped with night vision gear, reconnaissance drones for intelligence gathering, battlefield maps, and a real battlefield communication network. There was even a squad equipped with support artillery.
According to regulations, they still needed to draw lots to determine their opponents for the second round. Ye Yu arrived at the drawing station on time but would have to wait until all matches were completed before proceeding.
The drawing station was managed by senior students; however, in the lounge area, Ye Yu sensed a powerful aura nearby—likely one of the teachers responsible for maintaining order at the venue—and their combat power was not low.
To prevent any cheating or virus intrusions, the drawing station used a primitive spinning wheel method for lot drawing; whatever it landed on would count. The numbers on the wheel were hidden as well; only when the pointer stopped would a number pop up. Of course, if it landed on their team's designated position, they would spin again.
Although it was merely a mechanical turntable, it was highly precise, and each rotation caused the numbers to change. As a result, even the designer found it difficult to calculate the outcome, let alone anyone else. At this moment, Ye Yu randomly arrived at a turntable numbered 7, with only one minute left until the scheduled drawing time.
"Let's get started!" The person in charge of turntable number 7 was an older-looking man with stubble, appearing somewhat drowsy as if he hadn't rested well. However, his voice was deep and resonant, reminiscent of an ancient bell.
Ye Yu politely nodded and reached out to spin the wheel. This was inherently a matter of luck, so he didn't think much of it. Of course, if he chose to use his Psychic Power, he could control it; however, there might be someone monitoring the fluctuations of his Psychic Power in the vicinity, which would only complicate matters.
"Buzz—" The metal turntable emitted a faint sound of friction as it slowly rotated at a steady pace. It seemed like it could stop at any moment but continued to spin instead.
"Ding—"
A soft sound rang in Ye Yu's ears, followed by a series of mechanical clicks as an area indicated by the pointer activated. A white card flipped up from the edge of the circular disk.
"Hmm?" Ye Yu was taken aback. He remembered that during his last drawing, there had been numbers on the card. However, now he found that the white card was completely blank—there was nothing on it.
"This... Senior..." Ye Yu pointed at the card and looked uncertainly at the Stubbled Man.
The Stubbled Man's previously lazy expression suddenly showed signs of surprise. He then chuckled and said, "Congratulations! You’ve drawn a bye this round and will advance directly to the third round of assessments!"
"A bye?" Ye Yu repeated in disbelief. He knew that this round had an odd number of participants but hadn’t expected there to be a bye option.
The Stubbled Man nodded and replied, "Luck is also needed on the battlefield. I believe the teachers designed it this way for a reason!"
Ye Yu's conversation with the Stubbled Man naturally attracted the attention of others. Such good fortune was something most people envied to some extent. After all, out of more than a hundred groups, only one group had the chance for a bye.
Suddenly, at that moment, Ye Yu felt a faint energy that seemed to brush against him, but it quickly vanished.
"Hello, my name is Gale. Would you like to get to know each other?" At that moment, Ye Yu noticed the Stubbled Man across from him extending his hand with a light smile on his face.
Ye Yu was somewhat surprised but shook hands with him, saying, "I'm Ye Yu, a First Year student from the Command System."
"I know you; I saw you in the arena competition!" The man who called himself Gale glanced at the people lined up behind him and continued, "I'll look for you when I have time!"
Ye Yu nodded. Making one more friend was always better than having one more enemy. Moreover, he felt that the faint energy he had just sensed must have come from Gale. However, this energy was definitely not Mental Power, which meant that Gale was likely a natural Ability User.
Of course, Ye Yu understood that Gale must have some business with him, but he didn't ask any further questions. After nodding in acknowledgment, he simply left.
The other members of the team cheered upon hearing the news.
"Perfect! Let's celebrate with a meal!" Xia Chiu said to Ye Yu, her eyes sparkling with joy.
"This..." Ye Yu was still processing everything as he scratched his head and looked at Xia Chiu.
"My cousin is coming too!"
"Let's go!"
