Habits can be quite terrifying; once formed, they must be completed every day. Although there was an exam today, Ye Yu still woke up on time as usual, taking advantage of the moment before the sun rose when the energy of the world was at its most concentrated. He sat cross-legged and began practicing his body techniques.
An hour later, Ye Yu exhaled a long-held breath, feeling invigorated. Today, he had not excessively used his Mental Power to forge his body; instead, he simply controlled his breath to circulate around his body a few times. This ensured that his physical functions were in an ascending state.
Due to having a bye yesterday, Ye Yu's team would directly enter the third round of the exam today. There were only one hundred eighty-eight teams left in the competition, meaning that if they won today, they would at least secure a spot in the top one hundred and achieve a good result!
At this moment, without needing much small talk, Ye Yu waited for Nasha and the others to arrive before everyone entered simulation mode.
"In small unit operations, there aren't usually overly complicated tactics, especially when our strengths are similar; it's difficult to gain an absolute advantage through strategy," Chen Tang said as he entered simulation mode. His role leaned more towards that of a strategist.
Ye Yu glanced around and realized he was still in some area of the Demon Domain Asteroid Belt, though he wasn't very familiar with this place. It seemed that this area was far from where they had initially operated.
"Then let's go head-on!" Wang Jiu said, waving his fist with enthusiasm. In reality, his combat power was at the bottom tier, but in the virtual world, everyone else was about the same as him, which boosted his confidence.
"Hmph—" Nasha snorted coldly, crossing her arms without saying anything.
Xia Chiu looked at Ye Yu as if waiting for him to make a decision. She didn't know why she felt an inexplicable trust towards this younger boy.
Ye Yu remained silent and casually opened the equipment capsule in his hand. Such capsules only existed in the virtual world; in reality, the technology for miniaturization had yet to be resolved.
"Night vision goggles, drones, maps, communication links, squad artillery! These are our new weapons. This exam is all about how we maximize the use of our weapons," Ye Yu continued looking at Chen Tang. "Brother Tang, what do you think we should do?"
Ye Yu's usual training focused on special operations emphasizing individual combat capabilities. Unlike now, where theoretically everyone's individual combat abilities were similar, Ye Yu was genuinely not adept in such situations.
After pondering for a moment, Chen Tang replied, "According to basic combat regulations, our current situation requires us to detect and attack first!"
"Right! Let's strike while the iron is hot!" Ye Yu nodded. If there was any difference under equal forces and equipment conditions, it would be momentum!
"Isn't that just going head-on..." Wang Jiu said somewhat discontentedly upon hearing their conversation but was quickly silenced by Nasha's eye roll.
"There's no time to waste; we need to act immediately!" Ye Yu knew that their opponents were also strategizing at this moment and dared not slack off.
With a wave of his arm, four drones dispersed in four directions: east, west, north, and south.
"Whew—" A rectangular transparent panel was thrown into Wang Jiu's hands while Ye Yu's voice echoed in Wang Jiu's ear: "Pay attention to the data returned by the drones; we can't afford to be careless!"
"Brother Tang, you're responsible for checking the map!"
"Nasha and Xia Chiu will handle testing the battlefield communication links!"
"I'll take care of assembling the squad artillery!"
Ye Yu quickly assigned tasks. In this simulated environment, his battlefield perception was no different from an ordinary person's. His only advantage lay in some battlefield experience which he needed to utilize to deploy combat tasks swiftly.
"Understood!"
The four of them could enter First Military Academy; they were certainly not ordinary individuals. After receiving Ye Yu's orders, they immediately sprang into action. Assembling the squad artillery was a breeze for Ye Yu. This weapon resembled a cross between a mortar and a howitzer and was primarily used for squad-level fire coverage. Although primitive, it could strike areas that directed energy weapons could not target during critical moments—an essential battlefield weapon.
Having undergone various training on standard weapon assembly before, Ye Yu was no stranger to assembling squad artillery. With help from two Virtual Soldiers, he completed assembling four artillery pieces in less than a minute.
"Ye Yu, I believe these three locations are where the enemy might choose to station or ambush themselves," Chen Tang said as he marked locations on the map right after Ye Yu finished assembling.
"Hmm?" Ye Yu squinted at the three locations: a narrow valley along an east-west thoroughfare; a high hill five kilometers away; and a plain with an uplifted fault nearby suitable for ambushing troops.
"Drones!" Ye Yu didn't have time to analyze further and immediately summoned the drones.
Wang Jiu understood Ye Yu's intent instantly and sent the geographical locations marked by Chen Tang to the drones.
Soon enough, data from the drones began streaming back continuously. Five minutes passed as all drones reached their respective positions.
"It can't be! There's no one there?" Chen Tang's expression changed upon seeing the video returned by the drones. According to his analysis, enemies should appear at one of these three locations. However, all three spots were empty—only endless darkness of Cosmic Starry Sky!
"Look! The valley! There are people!" Suddenly, just as everyone felt disheartened, Xia Chiu's urgent voice rang out.
"The valley? It seems they're preparing an ambush there; too bad they're late!" Chen Tang quickly recognized what was shown in the drone footage and smiled faintly with a hint of ruthlessness.
"Extended-range artillery! Seventy-two degrees three minutes; distance four kilometers! Five o'clock direction; wind speed zero; fire!"
Opportunities like this must not be missed; Ye Yu knew that now was the time to unleash their strongest firepower while their opponents remained unaware—it was indeed the best tactic.
With Ye Yu's command given, four rounds of extended-range artillery roared forth towards the valley. The dazzling tails of cannon fire instantly sliced through the unchanging darkness.
