Yama's Wedding
The two walked slowly, stopping occasionally. Xue observed Yao Guang's condition and intentionally slowed their pace. Given Yao Guang's current state, she was no longer fit for soaring through the clouds and could only rely on more primitive methods to regain her strength. Throughout their journey, the two managed to coexist peacefully. Yao Guang's spirit had improved significantly, but she remained worried that Xue would send her back to the Underworld.
"We're here," Xue said, stopping in front of Yao Guang.
During their journey, Yao Guang had not asked Xue where they were headed. Although she vaguely understood that Xue intended to help her repair her soul, she had not inquired about the specifics. The possibility of repairing her soul had become less important to her; what mattered was being able to walk alongside Xue. As she gazed at the building before them, it appeared to be a villa nestled in the woods. She hadn't noticed before, but the villa bore the name "Xiao Yao Villa." This name was quite common; Yao Guang had seen it frequently during her time in the mortal realm, where the concept of freedom existed. Yet, who could truly embody that freedom?
"Um, what are we doing here? Aren't we supposed to go to Mount Buzhou?" Yao Guang asked, confused.
Seeing Yao Guang tilt her head in inquiry made Xue's heart flutter like a feather. "Do you know about a divine object called the Solidifying Pearl?"
Yao Guang recognized the name; it was a treasure of the Queen Mother of the West. While it wasn't as powerful as high-grade artifacts that could enhance cultivation, it could help deities solidify their Primordial Spirit and reshape their souls.
"Isn't the Solidifying Pearl with the Queen Mother of the West? Has it fallen into mortal hands?" Yao Guang questioned.
Xue shook his head and explained, "Originally, this item was created by the Queen Mother of the West and should belong to Penglai's treasures. A thousand years ago, during a tribulation in the mortal realm, she received help from a mortal and left the Solidifying Pearl as a token of gratitude. The descendants of that mortal established this villa over time. Therefore, our first step is to obtain the Solidifying Pearl to repair your soul."
Xue's earnest explanation left Yao Guang somewhat dazed; she didn't fully grasp his words and simply stared at him blankly, forgetting to respond.
"Yao Guang, did you hear what I said?" Seeing her expression, Xue realized she probably hadn’t caught his words again. Over these past few months, nine out of ten times when he spoke, Yao Guang didn’t seem to hear him at all. Sure enough, after he prompted her, she quickly snapped back to reality.
"Oh dear! Whatever you decide is fine!"
Unfortunately, Yao Guang's expression of "you can do as you please" did not ease Xue's mind; instead, it ignited a fire of anger within him. "How can you joke with your own soul like this? We are in the mortal realm now, and everything must be done with caution. We cannot recklessly use our powers or interfere with the lives of mortals; it is all dangerous."
Although Xue often spoke to him coldly, such seriousness was rare, especially since there seemed to be a hint of anger in his tone.
Yao Guang gently tugged at Xue's sleeve and said, "Please don't be angry. I will be careful and won't hold you back."
The sleeve was lightly swayed by Yao Guang, but that wasn't the point at all. Yao Guang clearly didn't understand what he meant. Xue thought to himself that it was pointless to repeat it; Yao Guang would probably still think he was angry. "Just follow me inside later and don't speak; just watch how I act."
"Okay." A voice came from behind, confirming Yao Guang's agreement. Oddly enough, the anger he felt moments ago seemed to dissipate with that response. It appeared that spending too much time in the mortal realm had made him susceptible to human emotions. Perhaps he needed to return to the Underworld to regain his calm.
Xue stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Soon, the door opened, revealing a head that scrutinized them. The person glanced at Xue and instantly froze. Aside from his Master, he had never seen anyone so handsome—perhaps even more so than his Master.
Seeing the look on this person's face, Yao Guang silently cursed; this person was definitely mesmerized by Xue.
"Hey, what are you staring at? Hurry up and report to your master," Yao Guang said without holding back, stepping in front of Xue to block the person's gaze. Xue belonged to her; no one else could stare like that.
Xue looked at Yao Guang with a mix of amusement and exasperation, feeling helpless.
Where did this girl come from? It was a pity that such a celestial-looking young man had such an unreasonable maid by his side. Clearly, this person had already dismissed Yao Guang as just a maid.
Seeing the two of them glaring at each other, Xue could only step forward and bow slightly to the person. "Could you please inform your master that I am here to resolve their difficulties?"
The man was staring at Yao Guang, and upon hearing this, he quickly waved his hand at Xue. "My master is not seeing guests lately."
"You," Yao Guang was about to argue further when Xue swiftly pulled her back. "It's fine. You just need to inform your master that I have come to resolve the reason he cannot meet guests."
The man pondered for a moment and said, "Alright, I will relay your message. Whether my master sees you or not depends on your fortune."
He closed the door and went to deliver the message.
"How do you know the reason this household's master is not seeing guests?" Yao Guang asked curiously.
"Have you forgotten? I am the King of Hell. This manor has a strong aura of resentment from the outside, indicating that there are likely malevolent spirits at work here, causing the residents to be on edge. The moment that man saw us, he immediately showed signs of wariness. Others must have come before us to exorcise the spirits but failed. We need to enter here to find the location of the Solidifying Pearl and, by the way, eliminate the evil spirits troubling this family."
Yao Guang looked at Xue with admiration; he was indeed someone she liked and was exceptionally capable.
Xue noticed the dark energy lingering outside the manor; it seemed that this resentment had accumulated over many years. He furrowed his brow.
"Please come in, gentlemen," the man opened the door and welcomed them inside, secretly sighing in his heart, hoping this young man had some skills and wouldn't end up like the previous Taoists and monks who had come, failing to resolve the master's troubles and losing their lives in vain.
