Yama's Wedding
That night, the light in the room gradually dimmed. Yao Guang anxiously watched Xue. Ever since entering, Xue had been silently sitting on the bed in meditation. Although Xue kept his eyes closed and remained quiet, the eerie atmosphere made Yao Guang feel overwhelmingly suffocated. It was already getting late, and she hadn’t eaten anything. As a deity, Xue naturally didn’t need to eat, but she was still a mortal and couldn’t go without food. Yao Guang had been waiting for Xue to acknowledge that there was another person in the room, but her hopes were dashed.
Suddenly, a loud growl from her stomach made Yao Guang blush with embarrassment. She simply couldn’t bear the hunger any longer.
Xue awakened from his meditation. “Are you hungry?”
“Yes,” Yao Guang replied, feeling particularly shy.
It seemed that her time in the Underworld had been too long; Xue recalled his earlier conversation with Yama King.
In truth, while he appeared to be meditating, he had quietly returned to the Underworld.
Everything in the Underworld remained unchanged. However, after just a few months in the human realm, Xue found himself somewhat unaccustomed to the dark environment of the Underworld. He didn’t disturb anyone as he made his way directly to Yama King's grand hall.
“Xue, you’ve come,” Yama King said as soon as Xue entered the Underworld.
Xue respectfully bowed and addressed him as "Yama King."
“You’ve only been to the human realm for a few months, yet you return having found the soul of Star Lord Yao Guang.”
“I have found it, but my lord, I have a request,” Xue knelt and clasped his fists before Yama King as he made his plea.
Yama King looked at Xue, who was kneeling before him. Such a solemn request was rare from Xue, and he had even used the formalities of a ruler and subject. Although the Underworld was ruled by Yama King, there were also the Ten Halls of Yama, each with their own responsibilities. They usually did not pay much attention to such formalities. It seemed that Xue truly had something serious to discuss. Could it be related to that matter?
“Xue, is this about Star Lord Yao Guang?” Yama King asked in a deep voice.
Xue was taken aback; it appeared that his actions had not escaped Yama King's notice. At this moment, he could only admit it openly and then plan accordingly. “Indeed, I feel guilty towards Star Lord Yao Guang. If it weren't for me, she wouldn't have fallen into such a state.”
“Xue, I didn't tell you about Star Lord Yao Guang back then because I feared you would blame yourself for her situation. I didn't expect you to learn about the past after all. Very well, Star Lord Yao Guang's soul is already severely damaged. If it is not repaired in time, she will not withstand the pain of reincarnation again and may very well vanish completely,” Yama King lamented. “Star Lord Yao Guang is a master of killing; when you were in the mortal realm with her, you must be cautious and avoid causing any bloodshed. Furthermore, during your time in the mortal world, do not casually use your powers; the eyes of the gods are everywhere.”
Reflecting on this, Xue truly did not expect Yama King to so easily overlook Yao Guang's situation and even tacitly approve of his actions. Moreover, the last sentence from Yama King seemed to serve as a warning; it appeared that the gods did not wish for Yao Guang to return to their realm. Xue could guess some reasons behind this—over the years, the court had become increasingly decayed, and long ago, the Creator God had predicted that as time passed on Earth, the court would inevitably collapse. The new court had existed for nearly ten thousand years; the shifting of Southern Dipper and Big Dipper stars had already signaled this change. It was laughable that the members of the court dared not show any hostility towards the other eleven Star Lords but were ruthless towards Yao Guang, who was still unformed and a daughter at that. Did they truly believe that eliminating one Star Lord could alter the fate of the entire court?
Yao Guang looked at Xue; he seemed lost in thought and somewhat confused. Now he appeared slightly angry as well—after all, he was merely hungry; there was no need for Xue to be so upset.
Just as he pondered what to do next, a voice came from outside: “Two guests, Master requests your presence in the dining hall.” The voice interrupted Xue's thoughts. He glanced at Yao Guang beside him and resolved to protect her well.
“Let’s go,” Xue said as he stood up and adjusted his clothing.
What was going on? Confused, Yao Guang followed closely behind him. Regardless of anything else, as long as Xue wasn't angry, that was enough; his earlier demeanor had startled her a bit.
The two arrived at the dining hall where several people were already seated at the table. The unpredictable Master naturally occupied the head seat, flanked by two women and one man. Each person present appeared strikingly handsome or beautiful; Yao Guang couldn't help but think that beauty must run in their family.
Xue observed everyone carefully. The man seemed to be around Master’s age; although his features were handsome, his face showed signs of obvious swelling and dark circles under his eyes. He looked charming on the surface but seemed hollowed out inside—a clear sign of excessive indulgence. This man posed no threat in Xue's eyes.
As for the two women, they looked like typical ladies from affluent families but seemed somewhat timid. Since entering with Yao Guang until now, they had only stolen a quick glance at him before lowering their heads in evident nervousness.
Finally, Xue looked at the Master in the center, who still wore that casual, harmless smile. But Xue knew that beneath that smile lay something far more complicated. He couldn't help but wonder what the Master intended by having these three people dine with him.
"It’s quite rude of you to stare at my sister like that," the Master said, glancing at Xue with a chuckle, completely ignoring the fact that his two sisters were nearly burying their heads under the table.
Yao Guang had already taken a good look at these individuals when she entered. Although she was initially surprised by their appearances, her attention quickly returned to Xue. However, she noticed that he was fixated on the two girls, which ignited a flicker of anger within her. The Master's comment only fueled her dissatisfaction; after all, she was a deity herself. Though not particularly valued in the court, her years of being an upper-tier figure had instilled a sense of pride in her. She couldn't allow these two girls to compete with her for Xue's attention. Yet, she also didn’t want to lose her temper and upset Xue. After some thought, Yao Guang stepped forward.
"Thank you for your hospitality, Master. Xue, let’s sit down," Yao Guang said deliberately as she linked her arm with his and pulled him to sit beside her. She shot a challenging glance at the pair of sisters across from them, deciding it was best to nip any potential rivalry in the bud.
At this moment, Xue understood Yao Guang's intentions. However, since it wasn't a serious matter and seeing Yao Guang so happy made him feel at ease, he decided to go along with it. He simply gave her a light tap on the head. Yao Guang felt the gentle touch; it wasn’t heavy at all. Knowing that Xue wasn’t upset, she happily began to eat.
The Master observed their interaction with great interest, a smirk playing on his lips.
Meanwhile, the two Sister Flowers across from them caught Yao Guang's gaze and instantly turned pale. In truth, when this man had entered earlier, they felt a flutter of excitement inside them. Their nominal brother never took them to such gatherings, yet this time he specifically instructed them to dress beautifully. Seeing such an attractive man made them feel giddy; little did they know he was accompanied by such a formidable woman. They wondered how someone like her could be worthy of a man with such an ethereal presence. Their minds began to wander into different thoughts.
The meal passed amidst their respective musings.
