Yama's Wedding
It seemed that they had been careless. Yao Guang and Xue returned to the room, only to find themselves staring at each other in shock. It was only at this moment that they realized a very serious problem: there was only one bed in the room!
If it hadn't been for their earlier argument, Yao Guang would have been more than willing to share a room with Xue. However, after having such a deep introspection about herself, she felt unprepared to stay in the same room with him. Yao Guang believed her self-cultivation had not reached that level yet. But if they didn’t share a room, where would she spend the long night? Yao Guang's heart was in turmoil.
At the same time, Xue was also contemplating the situation. Having a man and a woman alone together in one room could severely damage Yao Guang's reputation. Even if nothing happened, once Yao Guang returned home, people might twist the story to make things difficult for her. Regardless of everything, he needed to consider what was best for her.
After thinking for a while, Xue said to Yao Guang, “You should rest here tonight. I’ll keep watch outside. If you need anything, just call for me.”
Xue’s intention was to protect Yao Guang’s reputation, but he didn’t realize that upon hearing his words, Yao Guang’s thoughts took a different turn. Did this mean that Xue did not want to be with her and preferred to linger outside at night?
Yao Guang could only lower her head and silently nod.
Xue, unaware of why Yao Guang suddenly seemed downcast, assumed it was due to their earlier argument. He felt secretly pleased, thinking that letting her have some quiet time alone in the room was the right decision; it would give her a chance to think things through.
He stepped out of the room and gently closed the door behind him.
As soon as Xue left, Yao Guang felt as if she had lost her support. It seemed that Xue truly did not want to be with her; even his departure felt so hurried. Yao Guang began to cry softly into her hands. No, she thought, she couldn’t just cry like this. It had been so difficult to see him again after all this time. Had she been too impatient? Did she really think that her infatuation could elicit a response from him? She had forgotten that to Xue, she was merely a stranger—at most someone he had met briefly a thousand years ago. She had been too obsessed, always wanting Xue to give her some acknowledgment. She forgot that the reason she liked him in the first place was simply because he was who he was.
But since meeting him again, what had she done? She had constantly imposed her feelings on him, even confessing without regard for his feelings and demanding a response from him. It seemed she had lost that pure affection she once had for him.
Yao Guang sat alone in the room, lost in thought.
Outside, however, Xue’s mind was far from romantic entanglements. The manor held too many secrets for him; surprisingly, he began to feel a sense of curiosity about it.
Listening to the sounds from inside the house, Yao Guang seemed to have fallen asleep. Xue had set up a barrier around the room to ensure that Yao Guang would not be disturbed.
Xue flew up to the roof. As the saying goes, one must stand high to see far. Earlier, he had merely followed the butler around, without any real concept of the size of this villa. Now, standing at a height, he could truly take in the entire estate.
Xiao Yao Villa appeared quiet and eerie under the moonlight. Looking around from the living room, it seemed no different from an ordinary household. The front was for receiving guests and dining, while there was a large courtyard at the back. Passing through the garden, the western side housed guest accommodations, while the eastern side was where the Master and his family resided.
Xue noticed that Xiao Yao Hao's room still had its lights on. After a moment's thought, he flew in that direction.
He quietly stood outside the door, holding his breath as he peered inside.
Xiao Yao Hao looked extremely fatigued, as if he had been struck by frost. He was not as flamboyant as during the day; instead, he sat quietly in a chair, his face illuminated by candlelight appearing somewhat ghostly. He was staring at a painting on his desk, occasionally revealing a sorrowful expression.
It seemed that this painting was very important to him. Xue sensed this could be a breakthrough. Unfortunately, from his current position, he couldn't see the painting clearly. So, he discreetly used some magical power to lift it slightly. In that instant, he caught sight of its contents.
The painting depicted a woman in flowing red garments, her smile radiant like a flower as she playfully pinched a blossom.
“Liu Qing, is that you returned?” Xiao Yao Hao suddenly asked into the empty air of the room.
It appeared that Xue's earlier gust of wind had led him to misunderstand.
After a while, seeing there was no response—only the faint flicker of candlelight—Xiao Yao Hao's expression turned oddly strange, a mix of despair and some happiness.
“Of course, how could you return? What is there here that would make you nostalgic?”
Xiao Yao Hao muttered to himself, and as a mere mortal, he couldn't see it. However, Xue could. As Xiao Yao Hao spoke, a woman's figure slowly materialized behind him. Xue recognized her at a glance; she was the same woman depicted in the painting earlier. The only difference was that this woman had a very noticeable beauty mark under her left eye, while the one in the painting did not.
After the woman appeared, she silently gazed at Xiao Yao Hao, her eyes devoid of any emotion.
It seemed that there were many mysteries surrounding Xiao Yao Hao.
Xue focused on the woman for a moment. It was clear she had already passed away, but her aura did not carry the essence of a malevolent spirit; on the contrary, her presence was quite gentle.
Xue cast a spell towards the woman, and she instantly shifted from inside the house to stand before him.
The woman had yet to comprehend what had happened when she suddenly found herself outside, facing a man.
Though she didn't understand what was going on, the pressure emanating from him made it difficult for her to stand upright; she could only endure silently. Fortunately, it seemed that this man was not targeting her.
Liu Qing breathed a sigh of relief. Ever since her death, she had wandered around this mansion without causing any harm. At most, she enjoyed roaming at night since no one could see her. However, this man appeared to be able to see her, and he didn't seem to belong to the Mansion.
Liu Qing quietly observed him, utterly perplexed about his origins.
Meanwhile, Xue scrutinized her in silence. This ghost seemed to be a new spirit without any malice. Yet, people from the Mansion gave off an impression as if there were some vengeful spirits within; but now it appeared that this ghost was not one of them. Could it be that there were others in this Mansion?
