Yama's Wedding
The three of them walked quickly until they reached the door of Xiao Yao Hao's room. Liu Qing stopped Yao Guang, saying, "Yao Guang, could you go in first with Yan Wang? I'll wait for him outside."
Yao Guang understood Liu Qing's feelings at that moment; it was a sense of nervousness returning home. He exchanged a glance with Xue and stepped forward to knock on Xiao Yao Hao's door.
Xiao Yao Hao had spent the night beside Xiao Yao Yu's body. It wasn't until early morning that a servant came to report, prompting him to drag his weary body back to his room. Although the butler urged him to rest, he sat inside, unsure of what to do, merely standing silently. When he heard a gentle knock at the door, he approached and opened it, only to find Young Master Xue and Yao Guang standing there together.
"Young Master Xue, I wonder what brings you and your spouse here?" Xiao Yao Hao asked, somewhat puzzled, noticing their expressions seemed to indicate they had something to discuss.
Xiao Yao Hao looked extremely fatigued. Just as Yao Guang was about to speak, Xue interjected, "Liu Qing wants to see you."
Upon hearing this, Yao Guang felt confused. He had been struggling with how to explain that Liu Qing was still lingering here after her death and how he and Xue knew that Liu Qing wished to meet him. These questions had not yet been resolved in his mind when Xue bluntly stated it.
In contrast, Xiao Yao Hao's reaction was somewhat strange. He fell silent upon hearing Xue's words, showing no signs of surprise or any other emotion. Seeing this calm demeanor from Xiao Yao Hao made Xue appear equally composed. Yao Guang sensed that there was something between these two that he did not understand.
Yao Guang exchanged glances with Xue and said, "I'll explain later." This left Yao Guang feeling somewhat defeated; he felt like an idiot for not grasping what these two were hinting at. Little did he know that Xiao Yao Hao had already met Liu Qing in secret with Xue's help. Therefore, hearing Xue's statement now would naturally not elicit any surprise from him.
After a moment of silence, Xiao Yao Hao seemed to have made up his mind and addressed the two of them, "Alright, where is Liu Qing now?"
"She's outside," Yao Guang replied.
"Good." Xiao Yao Hao looked toward the door and walked in front of Xue. Closing his eyes, Xue waved his hand between Xiao Yao Hao's eyes.
"Alright, go meet her!" Xue said.
Xiao Yao Hao did not immediately step out of the door. He turned back and bowed deeply to Yao Guang and Xue, saying, "Thank you both for your help regarding Liu Qing."
"Hurry up and go. Liu Qing is waiting for you," Yao Guang urged, feeling a bit unaccustomed to Xiao Yao Hao's serious gratitude directed at her.
"In this life, meeting you both is my fortune," Xiao Yao Hao straightened up, giving one last deep look at Yao Guang and Xue before turning to leave.
Xue watched Xiao Yao Hao's figure disappear, hoping that their meeting would resolve their misunderstandings. If all went well, he could soon obtain the Solidifying Pearl and take Yao Guang away.
"Xue, you must explain this to me now," hearing Yao Guang's voice, Xue turned to look at her.
The earlier exchange between the two had been too practiced. How could Xiao Yao Hao, an ordinary mortal, know how to make himself visible to spirits? He stood before Xue with his eyes closed, as if he already knew how Xue would assist him. Moreover, that final expression of gratitude was too formal; Yao Guang believed she hadn't done anything in this manor to warrant such thanks from Xiao Yao Hao. The only possibility was that Xue had done something related to him. But when had these two connected?
"Xiao Yao Hao came to me once, asking me to secretly arrange a meeting with Liu Qing. I agreed," Xue quickly explained upon seeing the accusatory look on Yao Guang's face.
"What?" Xiao Yao Hao had met Liu Qing! How did he know Liu Qing was here and even asked Xue directly? No wonder he had seemed so impressed by Xue before; she thought perhaps Xiao Yao Hao had changed his character.
"Tell me what’s going on!" Xiao Yao Hao questioned why he didn’t just meet Liu Qing directly but instead chose to sneak around.
Xue looked at Yao Guang's anxious expression and pulled her over to a table, calming her down as she sat. "Yao Guang, don’t worry. Let me explain everything slowly." Xue recounted the deal he had made with Xiao Yao Hao and the instructions he had received from him.
"So that’s how it was. I didn’t realize someone was following me that day," Yao Guang felt a mix of annoyance at her own carelessness and surprise at how much Xue had done for her behind her back without her knowledge. If she hadn’t asked him about it this time, she might have never known the hardships he endured for the Solidifying Pearl. Meanwhile, she openly declared her feelings for Xue daily, yet hadn’t done anything significant for him in return. What could she possibly do for him? After pondering deeply, Yao Guang found herself unable to think of anything she could offer him, a hint of distress appearing on her face.
“Yao Guang, Yao Guang, what’s wrong with you?” After a while, Yao Guang remained silent. Xue noticed Yao Guang frowning one moment and shaking his head the next, eventually revealing a look of distress.
“Xue, why did you choose me?”
“Why do you ask that?” Xue was taken aback; Yao Guang's question came out of nowhere. He didn’t quite understand why Yao Guang suddenly posed such a question to him. Indeed, there is a saying that only women and certain people are difficult to nurture, which proves to be true wisdom.
“I just feel that I have never done anything for you. Since we met, it seems I have only brought you trouble. In the past, that might have been fine, but now, because of me, you remain in this world and worry about my affairs. Yet I don’t know what I can do to ease your burdens.” Yao Guang expressed his frustration.
Upon hearing this, Xue couldn’t help but chuckle at Yao Guang’s expression. In fact, he laughed out loud, leaving Yao Guang bewildered.
“Having you by my side is the best thing. There’s no need for us to be so calculative with each other.” Xue’s words made Yao Guang blush and feel touched.
Although Xue didn’t mind these things, Yao Guang silently resolved to do something for Xue!
