Yama's Wedding
“Xue, this is my first time attending a wedding with you!” Yao Guang laughed, realizing how many years they had known each other. Yet, this was still the first wedding Yao Guang attended with Xue, filling Yao Guang's heart with joy.
“Yeah, it is,” Xue remarked, taking in the vibrant red around them.
Compared to the weddings in their realm, human weddings were much simpler. However, Yao Guang and Xue felt a warmth here, especially in this Bandit Hideout where every household seemed to be celebrating a wedding. Everyone participated, and each face wore a smile of happiness, as if they were all family at Yama's Wedding.
With red fabric draped around them and holding bright red decorations in hand, Yao Guang looked over at Xue not far away. The glow from the red lanterns illuminated Xue’s face as he diligently adjusted the banners. If only Xue could help arrange their own wedding like this.
Seeing Xue’s serious demeanor stirred excitement within Yao Guang. How fortunate they were to finally grasp this once unreachable star in their hands.
“Yao Guang, what are you thinking about?” Xue noticed Yao Guang's silence and set aside his task to approach.
In Yao Guang’s eyes, Xue looked stunning in white under the red lanterns, walking toward him with a beaming smile—truly captivating. Yao Guang felt his heart sinking deeper for this man named Xue, unable to pull away.
“I was wondering when we could be like this,” Yao Guang said, linking arms with Xue while gazing at the sea of red around them.
“It will happen; we will be even happier than they are,” Xue assured, taking Yao Guang's hand.
“Yeah. It definitely will.” Yao Guang knew that Xue was a man of his word; he trusted him completely.
“The bride is coming! The bride is coming!” A group of children shouted excitedly as they spotted the bride emerging from the room.
Yao Guang turned to look and saw Mute Girl dressed in a delicate gown adorned with gold and red embroidery, wearing Willow Leaf Earrings. Her soft black hair was elegantly styled into an intricate updo, making her appear radiant like the autumn moon.
No wonder she looked even more beautiful on her wedding day than usual.
In contrast, Old Five next to her appeared less impressive. Although he wore a similar red outfit, his dark complexion made him stand out awkwardly against the bright color; all that shone were his large white teeth, clearly showing his delight.
“Yao Guang, let’s go over there.”
As Old Five and Jun Ruo emerged, they instantly became the center of attention, drawing a crowd eager to share in their joy.
"Old Five, congratulations!" Yao Guang exclaimed happily, surprised to see someone getting married here. Of course, the fact that Old Five was already deceased had completely slipped Yao Guang's mind at that moment.
"Hahaha, thank you, sister-in-law!" Old Five beamed even wider upon seeing Xue and Yao Guang.
Mute Girl stood nearby, smiling gently.
Yao Guang observed this scene and thought love truly was a magical thing. Although Old Five and Mute Girl didn't seem like a perfect match at first glance, their red attire made them look particularly beautiful together.
"Alright, alright, the auspicious time is approaching; everyone hurry inside," Jun Ruo said, feeling as if she had returned to those carefree days of the past when she saw everyone so happy.
"Let's get inside quickly; it wouldn't be good to miss the auspicious time," the crowd urged Old Five and Mute Girl to proceed with the ceremony.
With the sound of "First bow to the earth," Old Five and Mute Girl bowed down together.
"Second bow to the elders." Since both Mute Girl and Old Five's parents were no longer present, Jun Ruo found an elder from Bandit Hideout to represent their families in this bow.
Old Five watched all of this with deep emotion. From the moment he decided to marry Mute Girl, although it was their wedding, he and Mute Girl had hardly contributed; nearly everything had been arranged by the people of the hideout. During this time spent preparing for the wedding, Mute Girl began to get familiar with the members of Bandit Hideout. Perhaps it was their warmth that gradually eased her heart, allowing her to bond with them.
"Couple's bow." Only one final gesture remained. Jun Ruo looked at the cheerful faces in the crowd; as long as this last rite was completed, she would finally fulfill Old Five and Mute Girl's wishes from their previous life.
Old Five and Mute Girl exchanged smiles and were about to bow down together when suddenly a voice rang out from outside, interrupting the ceremony.
"Xiao Junru, you really are alive."
Everyone turned toward the source of the voice.
Yao Guang recognized it immediately. Wasn't this the strange man they had encountered before? Today he wore white clothing, appearing less arrogant than before.
"Xue, is that him?" Yao Guang asked Xue beside her.
Xue looked at the man outside the door, and after careful observation, she was certain that this was not the man they had seen before.
"What? How could this be? Isn't this the man?" Yao Guang asked Xue in disbelief. It was clearly the same face they had seen, even if his aura seemed somewhat different.
Yao Guang stared intently at the figure again.
No one noticed that Jun Ruo's expression had changed completely since the moment this man appeared. She gripped the armrests of her chair tightly, her palms slick with sweat, as if she had just been pulled out of water.
While Yao Guang and Xue were still debating whether this man was the one they had seen, Jun Ruo recognized him immediately. This man was not from Mo City; he was Mo Yi, her former husband!
"This young master, if you are here to attend the wedding, please take a seat," someone nearby said, unaware of what was happening. They only noticed that ever since this man appeared, he and their Head of the Family were locked in mutual gazes. It seemed they were acquaintances, so out of politeness, they dared not offend him.
"What do you want?" Jun Ruo asked Mo Yi. It had been a long time since she last saw him—ever since she had died at his hands.
"I heard from Mo City that you were still alive, so I came to see for myself. I'm quite curious about how you managed to survive," he replied.
Jun Ruo looked at the man before her; he still bore the same appearance as before. He wore a white linen shirt with a moon-white dragon and phoenix patterned sash tied around his waist. His long black hair shone brightly, framing a pair of melancholic eyes. He had a strong and sturdy build, exuding an air of calm elegance. However, his lazy phoenix eyes held none of the affection they once did.
"Hahaha. Mo Yi, have you forgotten? I am already dead—killed by your own hands!" Jun Ruo seethed with rage, wishing nothing more than to see this man suffer a thousand deaths. (To be continued.)
