Yama's Wedding
Jun Ruo felt as if her entire body was floating, as if she had transformed into a light breeze.
That day, when Mo City made her faint, Jun Ruo saw herself.
From that moment on, Jun Ruo knew that her upbringing was different from that of her friends.
While others were still playing in the mud, Jun Ruo had already learned how to wield a sword; while others were learning domestic skills, Jun Ruo had mastered the quickest ways to kill. The calluses on her hands were not from household chores but from honing blades. There were times when she cried and threw tantrums, but her father always treated this matter with strictness. Eventually, she grew accustomed to it and even found joy in the monotonous training. She never argued with her father again.
Originally, Jun Ruo thought her life would be like this forever—being the leader of a Bandit Hideout, leading her band of brothers to rob the rich and help the poor, living a carefree life.
It wasn't until her father's deathbed confession that she learned they were all descendants of the former royal family and high-ranking officials from the previous dynasty. When their country fell, these people fought desperately to send their women and children away to avoid being killed by the Mo Family.
Jun Ruo had heard stories about how the emperor of that bygone era was foolish, leading to wars breaking out, and how the new dynasty thrived under a wise emperor. But when those characters from books suddenly became part of her own story—especially that despised tyrant who turned out to be her grandfather—Jun Ruo felt a pang of sadness. Fortunately, her father never pressured Jun Ruo to restore the country or organize a rebellion like those tales suggested. Perhaps some still harbored such thoughts; after all, the hatred for a fallen nation is not easily forgotten. However, as ordinary days passed, those feelings faded. For Jun Ruo, these events became just an ordinary story she heard and soon forgot. She never considered using her identity for anything. Her father's only wish before he died was for Jun Ruo to live as an ordinary and happy citizen. Following his wishes, Jun Ruo spent her days enjoying nature and indulging in food.
It was unfortunate that one day, feeling bored, Jun Ruo ventured out alone into the woods near Black Wind Stronghold, hoping to find something fresh to bring back for the children in the hideout.
“Hand over your things, and I might spare your life.” Upon hearing such a cliché line, Jun Ruo could only cover her ears and hide behind a large tree. She watched as a group of people surrounded a scholar-like young man.
The scholar's white robe was stained with blood, indicating he was seriously injured. Observing the scene before her, it seemed like yet another case of many bullies targeting a single white-clad scholar. Jun Ruo had heard plenty of stories with similar plots. Next should come a heroine saving the beauty—or rather, a beauty saving the hero. Looking around, it appeared she was the only one present; it seemed she would have to play the role of the heroine herself.
“Hey! What’s the point of bullying a defenseless scholar with so many of you?” Jun Ruo casually walked out from behind the tree with a blade of grass in her mouth.
“Oh? Where did this little lady come from? Why don’t you join us for some fun?” The group laughed upon seeing Jun Ruo, mistaking her for a frail girl.
"Miss, you should run quickly; these people are not to be trifled with." The scholar, despite being in a precarious situation himself, spoke urgently to Jun Ruo.
"I won't leave!" Jun Ruo's stubbornness surfaced. Since it had come to this, she would never abandon the poor scholar and leave alone.
"Miss, this is not your concern; you should escape for your life!" The scholar was frantic upon hearing Jun Ruo's refusal to leave.
"Since this Wife is unwilling to depart, once we deal with this person, we'll come over to have some fun with her!" The men leered at Jun Ruo's beauty.
"Sure!" Jun Ruo smiled brightly, feigning happiness. In truth, she wished she could tear these lecherous men apart.
"Miss, how can you be so unaware of your own dignity!" The scholar could hardly believe his ears. How could this girl be so lacking in propriety? He had just tried to warn her to leave quickly, and instead of listening, she was laughing with these men.
"Mind your own business!" This scholar was truly insufferable. She had merely spoken a few words in passing, and judging by his expression, he looked as if he wanted to strip himself bare. If it weren't for her respect for educated individuals, she would have turned and walked away long ago due to his lack of understanding.
"Alright, alright, Brothers will take care of this immediately; we can't keep the Wife waiting." Seeing Jun Ruo so compliant, the group wore lewd smiles that made her stomach churn.
Jun Ruo swayed her hips and stepped toward the group of men.
The scholar watched her approach with a heart full of despair.
In an instant, while everyone’s guard was down, Jun Ruo swiftly drew her sword from her clothing and struck down two of them in the blink of an eye.
The woman who had just been smiling brightly had now taken out two men in one swift motion, yet the smile on Jun Ruo's face remained unchanged.
After a moment, the group of men in black finally reacted. "Brothers, this woman is in cahoots with him! Kill them both and avenge our brothers!"
With that, more than ten of them charged forward.
"Run!" Jun Ruo quickly stepped back, passing by the startled scholar, grabbing him and running ahead.
Using her familiarity with the terrain, Jun Ruo soon shook off the group behind them. After a while, they disappeared from sight.
"Hey, I saved you! You should at least thank me!" Jun Ruo said, patting the scholar on the shoulder.
"Thank you, thank you for saving my life!" the scholar gasped, still catching his breath.
The scholar was so useless; after just a short distance, his face was already flushed and he struggled to speak clearly.
"Alright, I've lost them. Just keep going straight along this path, and you'll be able to avoid them," Jun Ruo said, clapping her hands and pointing out the way before preparing to leave.
"Miss, I want to repay your kindness!"
"What?" (To be continued.)
