Yama's Wedding
Jun Ruo and Yi Mo's relationship was blossoming, and the people of Bandit Hideout were all too happy to see it. If Jun Ruo could marry Yi Mo, it would indeed be a good match.
"Head of the Family, Head of the Family, the wealthy merchant from Jiangnan has arrived!" Old Five burst into Jun Ruo's room, brimming with excitement.
"What? He’s here!" Jun Ruo exclaimed, her heart leaping with joy. She had been waiting for this merchant for nearly half a month, and now her patience had finally paid off. "Quick, notify the brothers! We need to go and catch them off guard."
"Jun Ruo, are you going out again?" Yi Mo frowned upon hearing her words.
"Yi Mo is here too, haha!" Old Five finally noticed Yi Mo in Jun Ruo's room. Seeing Yi Mo's displeased expression, Old Five realized he had come at an inopportune moment and could only manage an awkward smile.
"Yi Mo, you know how long I’ve been waiting for this merchant. I can’t wait to capture him," Jun Ruo pleaded with a pitiful look.
This wealthy merchant from Jiangnan was known for his greed and exploitation of the common people; his name was Hu Qing.
Indeed, everything had returned to its original starting point. The wheels of fate were slowly turning once more.
"Fine, you can go," Yi Mo said helplessly as he looked at Jun Ruo. He could only agree to her plans. Even if he disagreed, Jun Ruo would still go anyway; what use was it to stop her?
"I'll be back soon," Jun Ruo promised cheerfully after receiving Yi Mo's approval.
With her sword in hand, Jun Ruo left the room with Old Five.
Yi Mo watched as Jun Ruo and her group marched out. He leaned against the doorpost and gazed into the distance for a long while.
"Third Prince, the Emperor asks when you will return." Suddenly, a figure appeared behind Yi Mo.
Yi Mo showed no surprise as he turned to face the person. "Soon. Tell Father to wait patiently. For now, help me with something—go protect that wealthy merchant from Jiangnan. He cannot die just yet; I still have use for him." Yi Mo's expression was devoid of the gentleness he showed to Jun Ruo; his face was shrouded in darkness, obscuring his emotions.
"Understood." The figure responded simply before vanishing from the room as suddenly as they had appeared.
As if that person had never been there, Yi Mo continued to gaze into the distance. "Jun Ruo, don’t blame me for being ruthless."
That night, Jun Ruo returned to Bandit Hideout in high spirits and immediately spotted Yi Mo smiling at her from the doorway.
Jun Ruo, feeling a sudden wave of comfort wash over her weary body, slowed her hurried movements. There was someone who would wait for her at home when she felt exhausted, and she had never found the nights of returning home to be so enchanting.
"Are you waiting for me?" Jun Ruo asked as she approached Yi Mo.
"Yes, you haven't eaten yet, have you?" Yi Mo replied, noticing Jun Ruo's disheveled appearance. He took her hand and led her inside.
Inside, Jun Ruo saw a table laden with steaming hot dishes. A mix of emotions stirred within her; she wondered how many times Yi Mo had reheated the food to keep it warm like this.
"Why haven't you eaten yet?" Jun Ruo looked at Yi Mo, who was smiling at her, and said with concern, "If I had known I would be back so late, you should have eaten first. You don't need to wait for me anymore."
"Alright," Yi Mo agreed with his words, but deep down he knew he would continue to wait for her. He handed the bowl of rice to Jun Ruo.
"How was your outing today?" Yi Mo asked casually, though his heart raced with anxiety.
"It was supposed to go well; I could have captured that merchant. But out of nowhere, a man in black appeared and rescued him. It drove me crazy," Jun Ruo replied, oblivious to Yi Mo's unease. She lamented internally about how close she had come to capturing the wealthy merchant only for him to escape.
"However, we did rescue a woman today," Jun Ruo added, causing Yi Mo's hand to tremble slightly.
"Oh, really?" Yi Mo managed to suppress his inner turmoil and followed up on Jun Ruo's statement.
"Yes, yes! She was a beautiful girl, but unfortunately, she's mute," Jun Ruo said regretfully as she chewed her food.
The woman they rescued was one of the beauties plundered by that merchant; she was said to be his thirty-third concubine. The mute girl was indeed stunning; when Jun Ruo first laid eyes on her, a line of poetry flashed through her mind: "As serene as a delicate flower reflected in water, moving like a slender willow swaying in the breeze."
"She's mute?" Yi Mo felt a weight lift from his heart upon hearing this; as long as she was mute, it was acceptable. After all, mutes could hear many things but could not speak.
"Yes, and she can't read either. She won't be able to tell us any news," Jun Ruo added.
The fact that she couldn't read made it even better.
"She can't read!" Yi Mo's voice clearly carried a hint of joy.
"Hey, why do I feel like you're quite happy?" Jun Ruo asked curiously as she looked at Yi Mo.
"Not at all! I'm just happy that you're back safe!" Yi Mo replied.
Is that so? However, Jun Ruo always felt that something was off.
"Alright, let's eat quickly. Don't worry about those things; the food will get cold," Yi Mo urged Jun Ruo.
Fine, whatever. It might just be her imagination. Jun Ruo happily ate the food Yi Mo had served her.
The wealthy merchant from Jiangnan, Hu Qing, had not been caught, but the Mute Girl remained. Jun Ruo had once sent someone to inquire about her situation. When Hu Qing had tried to take her back, the Mute Girl's parents and younger brother had already been killed by Hu Qing's thugs. Now, the Mute Girl was all alone. Seeing her plight, Jun Ruo allowed her to stay in the village and live in peace.
The Mute Girl was timid but liked to follow Old Five around. Old Five was a burly man who didn't know his own strength; when he first met the Mute Girl, he scared her so much that she fainted. Yet now, Jun Ruo observed that the two of them got along surprisingly well.
"Mute Girl, take your time eating; I still have plenty here," Old Five said gently to her.
The Mute Girl looked at Old Five with a tender expression.
"Yi Mo, are these two...?" Jun Ruo asked as she secretly watched their interaction from behind Old Five and the Mute Girl.
"It seems our Bandit Hideout is going to have some good news," Yi Mo said as he pulled Jun Ruo into his embrace from behind.
Our Bandit Hideout! Jun Ruo loved Yi Mo's choice of words. At this moment, she felt an overwhelming sense of happiness! (To be continued.)
